WOW! Mathilde looks radiant in that red dress, I love it! The women standing beside her in the first picture of the last set doesn't look to happy though...if looks could kill!

I believe that the woman standing next to the Crown Princess is Prince Philipe sister Princess Astrid ( I think that is her name).

Yes, her name is Astrid.
Maybe there's a reason for her facial expression. Imagine this scenario:

Mathilde saying to Philippe: "You didn't take out the trash?"

Philippe answering: "It was my turn to take out the trash?"

Astrid overhearing and thinking: "Oh, Philippe haven't you learned by now that you're supposed to do things on your own, and that Mathilde doesn't have to tell you to do this and that all the time. Good thing Lorenz knows this".

Lorenz thinking: "Oh, you're in trouble now Philippe. Well, you've only been married for almost five years, so I guess you'll learn in time. I did. Astrid doesn't need to tell me to do anything anymore. Nope, I do it all on my own, which means no trouble with the wife. Oh wait. Noooooo, it was my turn to do the laundry, and I completely forgot about it. If Astrid finds out I'll never hear the end of it. What do I do. Now I know. I'll call home and get one of the kids to do it. Uh, close call." :D

All in good fun.;) Does anyone have another suggestion to what might be said?

Oh that is too funny!

Maybe something like, "Why does she get the pretty blue sash? I look good in blue, I should get the blue sash!"

1 to 7) Nice photos of Mathilde and Masako together, in 2002, they were in Japan for the world cup football (soccer).

8) Also in Japan. mathilde wore an outfit by belgian designer Gerald Watelet.

These are pics from 1999, when Filip & Mathilde were still engaged. They brought a visit to the school St. Jeanne de Chantal, in St. Lambrechts Woluwe (Brussels) where Mathilde used to work -untill she became engaged that is- . Apart from having her own cabinet as a speech therapist, she also worked at this school with young children who had speech problems.
The school had prepared a whole afternoon of surprises to say goodbye to "Miss Mathilde" who was soon to become a princess. And yes, she wept a few tears :):):):):)

Mathilde looks so sweet! She really strikes me as a very personable woman.

from the site of the UN:

[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Her Royal Highness Princess Mathilde of Belgium recently accepted an invitation to be an Emissary for the Year of Microcredit 2005. On 17-18 November 2004, she will participate at the launch of the U.N. International Year of Microcredit 2005 in New York. The Princess was invited by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to promote microcredit throughout the world. This is a photo of Mathilde before her engagement to prince Filip. As a volunteer, she escorted sick and handicapped people to Lourdes (a very popular place of pilgrimage in France). You can see at the uniform she was wearing, that it was with the order of Malta, an order that only accepts aristocrats.

Oh, that's good fun!

Here is the biography of Princess Mathilde that I found on the International Year of MicroCredit 2005 website..

Her Royal Highness Princess Mathilde of Belgium
Emissary for the International Year of Microcredit 2005

"The Year of Microcredit will highlight how women's talents and innovation, together with access to credit and savings can give them the power to make long term investments in their families, communities, and their children's lives."

H.R.H. Princess Mathilde of Belgium was born on 20 January 1973 in Uccle, near Brussels. She is the daughter of the Count and Countess Patrick d'Udekem d'Acoz. Princess Mathilde studied to be a speech therapist at the "Institut Libre Marie Haps" in Brussels, obtaining her degree magna cum laude. She had her own professional speech therapy practice in Brussels from 1995 until the end of 1999. The Princess also received a master's degree cum laude in psychology at the Catholic University of Louvain in 2002. The Princess has a special interest for working with vulnerable people, in particular with children. Within these areas of interest, the "Fund Princess Mathilde" was created in December 2000. Each year, the Fund identifies projects that aim to make a difference in helping vulnerable people. In May 2002, she participated as a member of the Belgian delegation at the UN Conference on Children in New York. More recently she headed a humanitarian mission to Niger together with UNICEF and the Belgian development cooperation, highlighting children rights, the empowerment of women and poverty eradication. Besides Dutch and French, the Princess speaks English and Italian. Princess Mathilde was granted the title of Princess of Belgium upon her marriage to H.R.H. Prince Philippe of Belgium on 4 December 1999. Princess Mathilde has a daughter, Princess Elisabeth, and a son, Prince Gabriel.

Mathilde will make a visit to Copenhagen in December.

07/12/2004

Together with Unicef.be, the duchess of Brabant will visit the Supply Division of Unicef in Copenhagen. This visit is part of the "education, my right" campaign that Mathilde supports.

I wish I lived near Copenhagen, but unfortunately it takes five hours by train to get to Copenhagen from where I live. I'm sure there would be a chance to see her if I went and knew the location of the Supply Division of Unicef. It would definitely be great to go, but then again December is not exactly the cheapest month of the year, and the trainticket isn't cheap either. Maybe I'll have to settle for (hopefully) seeing her on the Danish news. Anyways, thank you for the information Cathérine. :)

Oh that's a pitty, but 5 hours is indeed a long time to maybe only catch a glimpse of her...:(

But Mathilde is a very active travelling woman, so I'm sure you'll still get the chance to 'bump into her' sooner or later ;):)
