Princess Mathilde of Belgium attends the 'Development Cooperation Assises', a forum of Belgian development cooperation policy makers and actors, NGO's, parlementarians and academics, Tuesday 05 May 2009 in Brussels. The theme of this year's second assises is 'The impact of the financial and economic crisis on low-income African countries'.

The princess talked during the meeting. She said that the current economic crisis should not stop the rich countries from helping the poor South. She warned for an escalation of famine in Africa.

A very sad topic, but Mathilde is the right person to be involved with this issue. She truly cares about children, and has the ability to speak out and make a difference.

I totally agree with you about that. And Mathilde in her role as a
princess in the spotlight helps to put the spotlight on special
themes like this that normally have a shadowy existence...
