There's an explanation on the commemorative plaque that was unveiled, it says: "In homage to Eugenie, the Empress of France (..) friend of Monaco and its Princes. Neighbour of the Principality in her villa Cyrnos in Cap Martin (..)".
The muncipality Roquebrune-Cap-Martin is close to Monaco, so both the friendship and the residence are the reason for the commemoration.

Today, October 10, Prince Albert as Honorary President of the competition attended the World Championship of Oeufs en meurette (a traditional dish from Burgundian cuisine based on poached eggs and meurette sauce or bourguignon sauce). The event took place at the Château du Clos de Vougeot, France.

The Grimaldis and the Bonapartes/de Beauharnais are related through Stephanie de Beauharnais,the adopted daughter of Napoleon I Bonaparte. She married the Grand Duke of Baden and became the grandmother of Lady Mary Victoria Douglas-Hamilton,the mother of Prince Louis II of Monaco and grandfather of Prince Rainier of Monaco. Empress Eugenie was also a bestfriend to the Duchess of Hamilton -Prince Louis of Monaco’s grandmother whom he was very closed to.

Yesterday, October 13, Prince Albert attended the 23. Rencontres Internationales du Cinéma des Antipodes in Saint-Tropez, France, for the premiere of his documentary "Alick and Albert" he had produced together with artist Alick Tipotis:
