After the Christmas event yesterday in Monaco (see the family's
current events thread), Prince Albert now is back in Copenhagen
again.
Prince Albert of Monaco upon his arrival at Copenhagen Airport
in Denmark to attend the United Nations (UN) Climate Change
Conference 2009, December 17, 2009.
The face expression in pic 1 is quite funny, maybe it's been colder
than expected

On 17th December, PA gave an interview to Ghislaine Ribeyre of Paris Match on his commitment for Monaco to "Zero CO2 in 2050".
He also announced the departure of the present Minister of State Jean-Paul Proust (a Frenchman) and the appointment of a new Minister of State.
The amended constitution would have allowed (for the first time) the appointment of a Monegasque as Minister of State. However, PA confirmed that the new Minister of State will be a French person.

You mean that would be his reaction towards me?

I've just received my copy of "Monaco - Vivre ma ville" in my inbox.
It's issued by the Mairie (Mayor's office) and, apart from articles, has many photos, including several of PA.

My favourite is the lovely photo of the Christmas Market, with its "blue tree".
This tree can also be seen on the Monaco webcam !

At the Monaco FNAC, another book launch about Albert - or should I say, two Alberts:
"D'Albert 1er à Albert 2", by Tuna Aksoy Köprülü - she is Turkey's Consul General to Monaco...
Apparently she was, in 2008, behind a bid to get the Nobel Peace Prize for PA.
She described him as "a ruler, a pioneering environmentalist, a sportsman and a wonderful person completely devoted to public life".

Last we heard Monaco got some snow today? Since it's a safe assumption Pa won't have to dig himself out of the Palais. Is this weekend the Charity Christmas decorated tree sale event???

Further to my post #225, PA has now revealed the name of the next Minister of State:
He's called Michel Roger and will take up the post on March 30th, 2010.
A lawyer by profession, he has worked for the Government of the French Republic in the education, law, youth, and other portfolios.
In an interview for the local Monegasque paper "Monaco Hebdo", PA pointed out that Michel Roger has Monaco experience because he has been a member of the Supreme Tribunal since 2007.

Christmas Eve at Monaco
Midnight Mass from 23.30h in the Cathedral, with Archbishop Monsignor Bernard Barsi.
At the end of the service, five couples dressed in traditional costumes (shepherds, fishermen, bakers, seamen and Monegasques) distribute Pan de Natale (Christmas bread) which has been blessed by the Archbishop earlier in the afternoon.

There is also an account of the Monegasque Christmas at home - "Le Noel Monégasque":
Amongst the food items are the Pan de Natale, the "fougasse" (bread similar to a focaccia) and the "Barba-Giuan" ("Uncle Jean) which is also the name of PA's football team!

Christmas Day at Monaco
The Archbishop of Monaco, Monsignor Bernard Barsi, said in his Christmas Day sermon that it is not surprising that, on this Christmas Day, there is an atmosphere of tenderness, innocence and peace amongst our families and societies which we would want to prolong during all the days of the year.
He encouraged people to be attentive to people in pain or disarray: people in war, the immigrants and the displaced, people who are disquiet and touched by the degradation of the environment, those who have lost their jobs, the orphans and mistreated children, people who are ill, and older people who are alone, the homeless, bereaved families.

On December 22, Prince Albert presented the athletes that
will represent Monaco at the Olympic Games in Vancouver,
Canada in February. The team will arrive in Whistler, the
Olympic village, on February 5 and will surely be supported
by the presence of Prince Albert.
