Gosh, I didn't look at the photo session in Central Park as being a PR move at all. Nor did I get the impression they thought they were celbrities. I also know they weren't on page 6. Most celebrities in NYC live a pretty inconspicuous life and I think most people that live/move here know that. I just thought it was a nice way for them to show the Norwegian people there new city.

I completely agree, as I stated in a previous thread... :) Do you live in the City? I recently moved here, although I visited often before I moved...I love New York!

I do live in NYC. I have lived here for 6 years and can't imagine living anywhere else in the US (although I would love to live in Norway again...I lived there for 2 years). I just think NYC is such a great city to live in, especially when you are young!

Yes, the night life and experience can't be argued, that is for sure. I am only 21 and I love it here. I grew up in Colorado there, and think that when it comes time for me to settle down and raise my family I will return to my home state (but visit NYC often so my family/children can experience it's greatness!) I miss being able to go up to the slopes whenever the whim attacks though, so I think I will probably end up making my home in Colorado during the winter.

They could had had a press confrence before they left . It really does bother me that NYC taxpayers have to pay for the security- if they percieve that their lives are in such peril then hire body guards and pay 100% out of their own pocket. hey they are in NYC as private citizens pursuing their "literary dreams" not here to improve the quality of life for me and millions of other New Yorkers . If I walked all the way down 5th Ave. with pictures of MaLo Inc. , Behn and baby very very few would jump for joy about their stay and few would recognize them. I know that people in my office don't like the idea of paying for security the legal secretary has already sent an e-mail to the City councel speaker Giff Miller and the the mayors
office too.
I'm counting the days they will be in the news because they "accidentally" leave baby Behn behind in a cab and then get to be on "Today" followed by Regis & Kelly" the "View" talking about how awful it was and btw I'm a singer an my husband is a (talented)writer oh and I'm ripping your NYC viewers because I'm soooo sweet and nice and thoughtful .....

No one is claiming they think they are hot stuff in NYC. No one claims that if you walk down 5th Ave people wouldn't say, "Huh? Who cares?" NYC is home to so many socialites and celebs, and yes other Royals, that you're right no one here probably cares too much that Norwegian Royals moved here... In fact Marhta Louise and Ari are the ones who said they were moving to NYC for the peace and quiet it offered them, since they aren't known here. The press conference was merely to share their new home with their home country so that they would be hounded my Norwegian reporters here too. The park wasn't shut down, people were still free to come and go throughout the conference, so whats the big deal?
Finally, I'm fairly positive that the Norwegian tax payers pay for Martha Louise and Aris security...not the New York City tax payers. Martha and Ari are still Norwegian citizens, they have simply temporarily relocated.
Also, I highly doubt Martha Louise and Ari are forgetful enough, or unresponisible enough to leave their one year old daughter in the back of a cab, or anywhere unsafe for that matter!

I agree, Britters. I also think that Märtha's program, on both sides of the Atlantic is large enough so that she won't have much time playing celebrities in New York.
And yes, I'm fairly sure that I still pay for Märtha's (and the rest of the royal family) security through my Norwegian tax money. Regardless if she's being protected by Norwegian or American security officers. And the latter would be cheaper, in my opinion. But I'm still sure I'm part of paying for it.
Do people actually forget their children in cabs? I saw on Friends Joey and Chandler forgetting Ben in a bus, but in cabs?

People can be careless, so I'm sure it happens. I've only lived here a few months...so I've only recently (in the past few months) started paying attention to the news here. When I visisted I didn't pay much attention to the local news. I don't think leaving a child in a cab is something that happens all that often.

Witty Kitty where are you getting the impression that US tax payers are paying for their security? Maybe you don't understand or agree with why they held a press conference in Central Park and that is your right, but it is common among royals to hold press conferences when they move to different countries (as stated in the above post). It was not a PR move and most celebrities here do lead rather inconspicuos lives.
Was there a press release or something stating that we were paying for their security? I am just curious. Thanks.

I suppose I should add one more thing to the above discussion: if Norwegian tax-payers are paying for the security of Märtha Louise and Ari, then they're also paying. Both Märtha and Ari pay tax in Norway (income-tax in Norway is a large percentage!) , and I'm sure that while living in USA they will also pay tax there.
When Martha Louise gave up her HRH title, she also started paying tax.

Thanks for the info Larzen.
It seems to me to have been sort of impractical for Martha Louise to have departed for New York City a week and a half ago from Norway only to fly back to Europe again in less than two weeks to be in Spain (which is why I thought it was an older picture).
Is there a reason why she couldn't have done this before she left for NYC or another member of the Norwegian royal family to attend the opening in Spain?

She's opening a branch of the Norwegian Sailor's Church in Spain. The church is named for her, Prinsesse Märtha Louises Kirke (Princess Märtha Louise's Church) which is why it's logical that she is the one to open it. But not very practical with her living in New York... I suppose the church wasn't ready for opening before...
(A sidenote: The Norwegian Sailor's Church here in Copenhagen is called King Haakon's Church.)

Torrevieja, Spain - Princess Maertha was in a cultural centre called Sociedad Cultural Casino where a chorus of Spanish children performed a song and Princess said that she was very happy to visit Spain. Also Princess said that her relationship with Spanish Princess of Asturias (Felipe and Letizia) is much closed but in this occasion she couldn''t meet them because the schedule was very busy. Princess was with Bishop of Bergen and said that she was very happy with her pregnancy. She was also in the City Hall of Torrevieja with major Pedro Hernandez Mateo. Photo: Euroimagen
