According to VG, the King and Queen are slowing down a bit. A planned state visit to India in the autumn, next year, is being dropped on their behalf, and Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit will probably be going instead.
It has been decided that the King and Queen will do the state visits in Europe instead in 2006. The reasons are the extensive programme they had in 2005, and the two surgeries King Harald faced in 2004 and 2005.

i think this is a right decision, after all, health is no.1 priority
it will be great watching Haakon & MM in India. i hope they bring Sverre Magnus, if MM is still breast-feeding him. but, i guess it's too early to speculate.

The King's New Years Eve speech
Topics from King Harald’s New Years speech 2005
He talked about the grandchildren and his decease. Due to his illness and surgery he has had time to reflect upon his life. He has realised that the important things (family and friends were particularly mentioned) become more important when you have been ill.
Otherwise he greatly enjoyed the birth of new grandchildren this year. “On this New Years Eve it is the growing generation that lies close to my heart. A little child carries the future within. That is why it is so important that it gets to develop in a safe environment. Children needs to be seen and to develop their selfesteem” quote from the speech (my translation).
He also talked about the UN Children’s Convention. Especially referring to the orpahanage children from the 1950s and 1960s who got their childhood destroyed due to abuse and poor care. He also talked about the trade with children. “Children are sadly easy to trade with because they are so helpless, trusting and seeking protection. This is part of our time’s slave trade and a treath against all good values in our international society” qoute from speech (my translation).
He talked about the tsunami disaster which coloured the begining of 2005, and the sorrow and the suffering which came with it. Also speaking about the disaster in Pakistan.
He encouraged everyone to be giving, loving and warm, as a nation and as individuals. That should be our gift to the following generations.
