The predictable reactions from various Norwegian opinion makers are coming in: https://www.dagbladet.no/kultur/dette-kan-ikke-slottet-slippe-unna-med/71887000

IIRC Royal Norway taught us that Dagbladet is very critical towards Haakon and Mette-Marit - and that is also the case in this editorial.
It is of course a "huge scandal!"
But - the editorial also ask some unpleasant questions as to whether there was a specific purpose to the meetings with Epstein. And whether Epstein donated money to funds and projects under Mette-Marit in particular and the CP-couple in general.

The government declines to comment on whether the NRF should have done a background check on Epstein and refer that question to court.

Some very good questions, especially the possibility of funding of any Kronprinsparret projects

It wouldn't surprise me if other royals and high profile people are "outed" as being friends or acquaintances with Epstein. It seems he had a knack for luring the rich and famous into his circles.

At least MM has apologised which means she knows it was wrong to associate with him; but I do agree that what is surprising is that she met him after he was convicted. Surely the palace would've done a background check on him - I thought that would be standard practice for any non-royal who socialises regularly with royals?

I don't want to downplay this thing, but in many parts of Europe, the sexual age of consent is around 15 or 16 and can go as low as 14 in some countries. So the whole 'he solicited an underage prostitute' would not shock me beyond measure and would not be interpreted in the same way as it is in the US.

So if it is the only thing that MM heard, well It would not be such a deal breaker...
After all a convicted sex offender in the us because of a statutory rape could walk free in Europe... It really depends with which depth she knew about Epstein's affairs

Crown Prince Haakon today commented on the Crown Princess's meetings with Epstein.

«The Crown Princess has chosen to be open that she met him a few times, she should had checked his background more closely, and she regrets that she did not, and is sorry»

Thanks Eya & Polyesco. :flowers:

I read the articles, there is nothing new than what Haakon said. - And that was nothing.

I wonder what and when Mette-Marit ditched Epstein.
There are two scenarios I can think of on the top of my head.

A) They met at several social events. Mette-Marit kept him in the back of her mind as a possible donor of funds to her charities. Alternatively she discussed her charities with Epstein and got a positive response.
At some point she has mentioned this possible donor to her associates, who warned her off on the spot! - End of story. Until now.

B) She met Epstein casually a few times, including getting an invite to his place in Norway. And here she was warned by someone: Eeh, do you know who this dude is? He's poison! (Native Norwegians probably being more concerned about her position than foreigners.)
And then she ditched him.

In both case the explaining phrase about Epstein trying to exploit her name and position are plausible.

Haakon's response is very open and honest. I like that he mentioned that Mette-Marit should have checked him out.

I'm wondering though does no one vet the people royals associate with? Mette-Marit met Jeffrey *a few times* (ie on more than one occasion). Someone should have done their homework.

This also makes me wonder. Who else or what other shady characters have they come in contact with?

It’s safe to say at one time or another JE has had contact with most if not all of the European elite and not a small amount of Royalty. Maybe not BFFs like Andrew but at least on a dinner party or swanky event basis. If they participated or knew about his activities is another matter.

Haakon and MM's responses to the Epstein scandal are how the Duke of York should've responded. I too wonder though, why he wasn't vetted before he met MM. :ermm:

How nice! We hadn't seen Mette-Marit in awhile.

It looks very snowy where the CP family are! Nice to see MM looking happy. ?

Crown Prince Haakon visits Gothenburg - but under what circumstances is uncertain at present. The Norwegian Royal Court can confirm that a visit is planned.
- A visit is planned in the spring, says the Norwegian Royal Court's press service.
It is also unclear if Crown Princess Mette-Marit will follow her husband.

CP Mette Marit posted on her Instagram:

"Good Friday❤️. Here are some pictures from here in this special time. With us, there is home office, telephone meetings, homework, walking, swimming and routines that keep morale up. Haakon, the children and I send many good thoughts to everyone who keeps their wheels running during the day. An extra greeting to those of you who feel more lonely now. And to all who have fallen ill: May the days become easier soon. My way of finding peace you see if you scroll further❤️ Send @askerhusflidslag and Heidi a big thank you for the loan of home tissue!
If anyone needs book tips then I recommend picking up John Irving again. Especially "Last night in twisted river" Irving writes such vivid stories that you can treat yourself to being in the middle of another universe for a while, and that's probably something we all need now .... A little break. Comes with more book tips eventually. Sending a pinch here from the loom ..."

From the Crown Prince Family:

«Here at Skaugum there is full pressure with home school. Magnus has made Chili con Carne for dinner. A warm greeting to all students, teachers and parents who make homeschooling work.»

The Crown Prince Couple:

"The corona crisis has led to major changes in the way the Church City Mission works to reach vulnerable groups. "The work you do in the Church City Mission is always important, but especially important in this demanding time," the Crown Prince couple said in a video meeting with the Church City Mission at Skaugum today. ⁣⁣

⁣⁣
The organization briefed the Crown Prince couple on how to adapt the important work at a time when many physical meeting places have closed. Among other things, they serve soup from a bicycle on the street in Oslo, offer home delivery to the elderly and seek out people digitally or one by one."

I am confused. Is it really the time to go on a skiing holiday or is this in their backyard?

Wow, certainly not what one would expect of RF at the moment. I’m not 100% sure of the situation in Norway but I would be amazed if skiing is still allowed for everybody.

I want to be able to ski in my backyard :)

In England, you're not supposed to travel too far for anything unless it si really necessary. Even to drive a few miles with your dog to take him for a walk in the country is frowned on. and a politican in Scotland has had to resign because she twice went to her second home at weekends...

I must say that the timing of publicizing these photos is a little off. I understand the situation in Norway is a bit better then most during this coronavirus crisis but still there have been 78 deaths in Norway. .. I don't know but the message is a little off for me.

Norway is going to open up as well.

They do a combination of Denmark and Austria.

That is: Kindergartens and nurseries will open from 20th April, as well as the younger classes at school.
Small businesses like hairdressers and selfemployed can begin to open during April.

The ban against going skiing and staying in the cabins in the mountains will be lifted from 20th April. (That is so much a part of Norwegian culture, but they will have to miss going there during Easter.)

Hmm, so there is a ban on skiing but the Crown prince couple and their daughter decided to go skiing and share pictures on their IG?!

It at least explains why there is no one else...

It seems that Mette Marit is relieved that as a consequence of her illness (which in itself is terrible), she is no longer expected to fulfill duties as a crown princess. She herself expressed how happy she is that she can now focus on what she enjoys doing instead. I wonder whether that clouded her judgment in posting these pictures.

I don't see anything wrong with these pictures. They're probably in your area of residence and in a safe place.

They are flouting a Government ban on skiing even if they are isolated and also showing a lack of support and empathy to their fellow countrymen/women who can't enjoy such activities at the moment. Overall though I think their happy smiling faces are just tasteless when so many are grieving. They could have done this and kept it to themselves.
