Thank you Larzen for the summary! I hope SVT (Swedish Television) will show it again in 2006 just like they did a bit into 2005, and that it will be online on NRK so we can all see it soon!

VG has today a list over the people whos name is most mentioned in Norwegian media.
The "winner" is our New Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg followed by the old PM Bondevik, 3 place to PResident George Bush

Here are the royals their place this year, last year and how many times they were metioned
The King : 10. place (2005) 17 place (2004) Mentioned 13275 times
The Queen : 25. place (2005) 48 place (2004) Mentioned 9251 times
Haakon : 41. place (2005) 29 place (2004) Mentioned 7441 times
Mette-Marit : 74. place (2005) 65 place (2004) Mentioned 5889 times

Im suprised the Queen is so much infront of Haakon, she is not very highprofile, but I guess she gets her name in many of the articles about the King

Hi Larzen,
Thanks for ur update Royal Engagements, but do you know any information if the King will be visiting any of British Royals?

No, only the King and Queen presides state visits, that is a visit to another head of state, when Haakon and Mette-Marit goes abroad it usually called official visit or something like that. The reasons they went on the trips to Britain, Sweden and Denmark was because of the centenary and they were called "special visit" and "fesive visit".

Sometimes during an official visit they may pay a courtesy visit to the head of state like they visited the King and Queen of Thailand and the President and First Lady of Poland, but they were not the hosts like it is under a statevisit. (The excpetion beeing the visit to Iceland where I think the President and First Lady did act as hosts and followed them most places, but maybe because of our close ties and beeing neighbouring countries, dunno)

The visit to India in November? was supposed to be a state visit by the King and Queen, if Haakon and Mette-Marit goes instead (because the King is ordered to slow down his agenda and long distance travelling) it will most likely be called a official visit and it will be less formal.

Royals face more criticism
More than a third of Norwegians questioned in a new survey are troubled by Princess Martha Louise's use of her royal title in her commercial ventures. Some politicians in Vest-Agder, meanwhile, don't think Crown Prince Haakon and his family should be allowed to build a summer home in a protected waterfront zone.
The survey, conducted by research firm InFact for magazine Se og Hør, found that 32.3 percent of those questioned think Princess Martha Louise's use of her title is problematic.
At the same time, 70.7 percent think she should be allowed to retain her "princess" title. The magazine's longtime royal observer Kjell Arne Totland isn't surprised by the numbers........................

Wow that's great, what a nice family gathering around him for his birthday!

Is that a heart shaped balloon in the back of Märtha Louise's car? Or what is that red thing?

Some "old" news form before Christmas, Dagbladet has a story that Kongehuset is searching a new web editor in a 100% position, the editor will be incharge of producing and updating inforamtion that will be on the Royal website. The sallary is between 238 000 and 429 000 depeending on qualifications

Good news IMO, the webiste really needs a facelift and a more modern design

And some more "news", good or bad is up to you to judge:eek: Sven O Høiby is invited to the christening of Prince Sverre Magnus, we are eagely awaiting what stunts he will pull there or before or after or whatever...

NRK has online two of the episodes of the very good serie Konger for Norge (Kings for Norway)
If you press on the dated video links at the top of the page in the link below, you will get to see many historical pictures from the Norwegian Monarchy. Unfortunatly the first episodes on King Haakon, Queen Maud, Olav and Märtha and the war is not online

Last week I could not watch it because it stopped all the time, but now it works well if you have a decent connection http://www.nrk.no/programmer/sider/konger_for_norge/

29.01.06 About King Olav taking over the throne after King Haakon death, how he missed his wife the rest of his life, and the struggle his son went trough to marry Sonja

5.02.06 Also about King Olav, but here the focus on his bad temper, how he showed little understanding for Sonjas role in the male dominated court and how she had to fight him to get an office, but how hwe stil became very popular with the Norwegian people. Princess Astrid, Queen Margrethe, the King and Queen comments (all in norwegian/danish)

There are two episodes left, hopefully thesse will also be put online, the next (March 5th) is about after King Harald took over, and how he and his wife raised their children etc. The scandal with the renovation of the palace, the childrens education and choice of partners

March 12. About the debate around Mette-Marit, how her life was turned inside out in Norwegian and forreign press, the wedding, Märthas choice of Ari Behn. The King gets sick, and the birth of the new children

Palace may get new address

Oslo's city council narrowly passed on Wednesday a motion to change part of the name of central avenue Drammensveien - the street boasts the royal palace as its first address.

The name change has been very controversial and the resolution to redub the lower part of Drammensveien to Henrik Ibsens gate just barely won a majority, NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting) reports.

The new name will include the beginning of the street, so the palace, currently located at Drammensveien 1, will likely have to 'move'.
The minority parties in the council - Labor, Socialist Left and the Red Electoral Alliance - called the resolution 'hasty'.

Dagbladet tonight publishes all the Norwegian monograms with promission from the Royal Court

It seems only King Haralds monogram is allowed to use in public, according to the court the rest are private property and shal be protected agins misuse. Is posting them here misuse I wonder:(. From Dagbladet

Here is some interesting news for a 6 day event in June
My translation from http://www.kongehuset.no/dt_kongehuset_newsstyle.asp?gid=501&mgid=5&aid=5523
Coronation-Journey
Form June the 19-21 the King, Queen and Crown Prince Couple will make a trip in the footsteps og King Haakon, Queen Maud and Crown Prince Olav

The reason is that on June 22 it is 100 years since King Haakon and Queen Maud was crowned in Trondheim.

The trip starts with car from the Royal Palace and the first stop is Eidsvoll, the the royals will go onboard the royal train (its one carriage not a whole train) and continue to Hamar

The train will make a stop at Odda and finally at Åndlasnes where the royal family will board the Royal Yacht Norge.

The yacht will stop at Kristiansund and Austråt, and the royal family will leave the ship in Trondheim on June 21. With the exception of Austeråt all places was visited on the Coronation journey 100 years ago.

The rest of the Royal Family will arrive directly in Trondheim for the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Coronationa held in Trondheim from June 22-24
One of the events in Trondheim I belive is opening a new visitor center next to the church where Märtha Louise got married and the Crown Jewels are put on permanent display in one of the buildings in the Archbishops palace (I think) June will be very busy since it will also be a 3 day spanish statevisit that month (and someone must go to Thailand for the diamond jubilee)
