I'm not usually on this part of the forums, but as an ardent fan of Andre Rieu and his Orchestra I thought you might like to see the concert he performed for HM Queen Beatrix this week:

André to play for Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands

There is a 30 minute video posted at that link

Enjoy!!

PS - Monday 29 March - today we were lucky enough to get tickets to see Andre & JSO in Birmingham (UK) in September)

After the 'mini concert' Her Majesty told André Rieu that it was 'geweldig leuk' (very nice/fun) and that it lasted far too shortly. To which André replied that he could go on a while longer. HM left though. The location (one of the many limestone quarries) looked very nice, though André Rieu commented several times that it must have been the smallest location where he and his orchestra ever performed. Rieu seemed very proud to finally perform for HM, he kept repeating that on television and in various programmes he was interviewed by.

HM sang along with the provincial anthem of Limbourg, although she and the other officials did not rise like the rest of the audience. That is only reserved for the national anthem. Rieu is a very nice man IMO, very suitable to present these kind of festivities. Always an innocent joke, a an anecdote to share etc. Next month he will be performing in South Africa. The first time on the African continent probably.

Have fun, you'll love it,the whole atmosphere is just wonderfull!!

Marengo I agree,André Rieu is a nice guy,flamboyant and funny,and a great entertainer.
Also,he is the 6th best selling artist worldwide.I think that is an indication on how darn
good he and his orchestra come across to the global audience.

HM will unveil a work of art today at the Grote Kerk,Schiedam.

By unveiling this work HM concludes a period of extensive renovations on the building and a sign to the new
and broader use of it in the future.

The work of art consists of a large bowl with bits and pieces of stone arising from it transforming into a lamb at the top.

The "bits and pieces" come from remnants of medieval altars found under the church during the renovation works.
There has been an extensive study into these bits and pieces, and the first copy of the conclusions will be handed over to HM today.

Not this evening but tomorrow.:whistling:

In two minutes part I ,on the State Visits, there were 50 of them between 1980 and now.
It is about HM's sense for content, decorum and being internationally orientated.

Short but still a good overview on the State Visits for the past 30 years.

AFP: Dutch queen celebrates 30 years on the throne

The Netherlands' Queen Beatrix celebrates 30 years on the throne Friday amid a crisis of government that observers say has made her all the more relevant as a unifying figure.

"Beatrix is a symbol of unity. It is her role as queen," Han van Bree, an author on the Dutch royal family, told AFP ahead of the ever-popular queen's landmark anniversary.

I just saw the queen leave from Westerkerk. She was wearing a brown(ish) hat and there was a large crowd watching on the other side of the Prinsengracht (canal of the prince).

The Queen has lend some documents from the royal collection to this exposition I believe. She wears a new diamond & sapphire brooch, that some claim was a gift from the Zorreguieta's... (not likely IMO as princess Laurentien also wore it once).

The grand duchess looks very elegant, it seems that she wears the same top as princess Máxima did a few days ago at the remembrance ceremony of the victims of Queensday 2009.
