You know Beatrix is getting up there she should slow down a bit and let her son be more in the game. Just saying.

I was at that concert as well. In the end the Queen departs on a boat, while the orchestra and a singer are playing 'We'll meet again' of Dame Vera Lynn.

Good for you for going Marengo. I bet it was a good concert, although I get a little emotional when I hear those old "war songs".

Well, it's a classical concert, but the mood is very festive and usually 'lighter' classical works are played. The public is always very joyous and waving with little flags. Some people take a bottle (or more) of wine with them, glasses etc. And of course, many boats on the river with spectators as well.
'We'll meet again' usually gets me melancholic as well, but very appropriate ending for a liberationday I think.

Beatrix without a hat? What has the world come to now ;)?

Was Vera there in person Marengo? She's a national treasure here. We like to know what she's upto.

No she wasn't there, helas. Previous years they just had the orchestra playing the tune and the public sung along, this year they invited a dutch singer to sing, which I found rather unsuccesfull as you always think the original is better.
Dame Vera did sing here in some shows in 1995, when the war was over for half a century, but after that I do not thinks he visited The Netherlands anymore (though i might be mistaken).

Ah. She doesn't sing anymore - she made an exception for the VE celebrations last year in Trafalgar Square. I was there and it was very moving when she came out and the entire square erupted, she burst into tears and we all swayed to "We'll Meet Again" with the Union flags flying and the ticker tape blowing. Marvellous.

I do believe I have found the most surreal Beatrix memorabilia from Lego.Com

Yes. Tis Queen Beatrix. In Lego form.

Sam! That's hilarious. Can't stop laughing here. :D
But what this thing on HM's face?
Bags under her eyes, a mustache? Not very flattering, imo...

LOL. Isn't it just mad? I believe those lines are cheekbones which are lacking on Lego heads. The hair and the outfit are spot on but the face is a little scary.

That is really great. And the funniest thing: it can't be any other Queen then Beatrix! I hope she doesn't see this as the crazy hat might give her some ideas...

Very surreal! Although I remember a hat she wore similar to that.

Lego Bea is indeed hilarious! :) Too bad they put a hat on her though -- I wonder how the Beatrix hairdo would translate in Lego!

No, it isn't the dress that's the same and makes you think that: she wore that hat at Koninginnedag 2005. :)
