SAD!!! I hope she gets well soon. It must be so nasty to have to re-learn how to walk AND get really sick at the same time. Poor Queen Beatrix!

And she has to stay in the hospital a bit longer, I hope she will recover quickly and that her visitors won't cough to much (which might have caused the pneunomia in the first place).

COMMUNIQUÉ VAN DE RIJKSVOORLICHTINGSDIENST (GOVERNMENT INFORMATION AGENCY)
Her Majesty The Queen will stay for more days in the Bronovo Hospital in The Hague due to a pneumonia.
The surgery to her knee went well; without the pneumonia The Queen would have left the hospital today.
More information will follow when neccessary, in consultation with the hospital and with the Queen's private doctor, mr. G.F. Muller.

I was wondering if anyone would enligthen me as to why Holland's Royalty are called Dutch, and why they are the Royals of the Netherlands. Is there a particular reason why they don't use Holland? Thanks!

I think Holland is a province of The Netherlands and people in North America typically make the mistake. It's the equivilant to calling the United States "Nevada" instead. (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!)

No, you're perfectly right, SpiffyBallerina. Our country is officially called The Netherlands and Holland is just a part of it, the two privinces Noord-Holland (North Holland) and Zuid-Holland (South Holland), but because of the fact that during the 17th century the Holland provinces were very rich and had a lot of power in the world, our country is also known as Holland nowadays. But officially it's the Netherlands, of course. The same thing you can see in other languages, like French and German. They know us as Les Pays-Bas and die Niederlande, but also as La Hollande and Holland. :)
Of the Dutch-thing I'm not quite sure. I think it comes from the Dutch word 'Diets'. Diets is a variant of the Dutch language which was spoken a long time ago and I think that all variants and dialects that came from that language (nowadays narrowed down to the Dutch language) are called 'Dutch' because of that 'Diets'. Got to check my study books about that, though I don't think my 'History of the Dutch language' will provide an answer for why the English invented the adverb 'Dutch' to refer to everything that comes from the Netherlands...

I'm thrilled to hear it! Now if she can only shake this pneumonia she can go home! I can't wait to see the pics of her when she leaves the hospital.

When did anyone say she left the hospital? The last thing anyone said about that is that she would be allowed to go after she got better from her pneumonia. If she has been released could someone send me a link to an article about it? I'd like to hear about how she's doing.
