went there once with a couple of friends, remember tuf tuffing in an old brokendown car, (an "eend") around a circular flower bed. A friend of ours was a nanny to a few grandchildren of juliana. Remember very heavy lace curtains, think in the long arcade with windows and how beautifull they were, probably because they were the real 19th century thing and excactly right for the place they were.

I fear the same. Ity is said the PoO finds it to 'open', so the palace lacks privacy. It will be hard for Beatrix to part from Huis ten Bosch, where she spend most of her married life, but I think it is most likely she will retire to Drakensteyn. I really wonder what they will do to Soesdijk and fear the worst, especially it is the palace I like best (not for the architectonial beauty but it seems a 'friendly' palace, and is connnected to Queen Juliana of course).

The lace curtains with the lions you mean? I though they were made in the 30-ties, but I am not sure. Now, you were so priviledged, driving on the estate, and in an 'Eend' (my favourite car)!

you are better informed than I am re the curtains, do not remember a particular pattern.
Remember the guard giving us a big smile, we must have looked cute to him in that car

Today on the frontpage of the dutch newspaper De Volkskrant:

beatrix invited Amnesty International, it's then president Mr. Vriesendorp at a banquet in honor of the nigerian president Obasanjo in order to give them a chance to lobby for the release of Amina Lawal a 30-year-old Muslim woman who had received a death sentence, by stoning, as a punishment for bearing a child out of wedlock. The lobby was succesfull.

I noticed also that the proceeds of the cd with clasical music played during her christmasspeech would also go to amnesty international.

Queen Beatrix is back . . .

It will be great to see HER again, after an absence of over two months. And that it will be during such a festive occassion only adds to the joy :)

So how many state visits will she pay this year?
1) Argentina
2) Latvia (I like their president btw)
3) Belgium?
4) ?
Does anybody know?

isn't it kinda interesting that the last time the Dutch medal winners met the Queen (after Athens summer olympics 2004), they all wore white suits, and now they all wear black suits. :D
The Queen looks lovely.. and it's nice to have her back ;)

Very nice pice of Queen Beatrix. Nice to see het again!:)

Great to see Queen Bea back again! I hope her recovery has gone well and that she will be at good health and won't have anymore problems. A nice gesture to meet the Dutch medalists, Bea looked to be in a very joyous mood!

Very good to see her again and I must say she looks great and radiant!

Yeah, Trix is back on track! She looked great! I really missed her, to be quite honest...

I missed her too Maxie! But it's been worth the wait. She looks very relaxed and happy! Did anyone see this on TV? Is the Queen able to walk fairly well? I hope the recovery is going well.

Yes, I saw it on tv. I actually don't know how well she walks at this moment. She met with the athletes behind closed doors and all they showed was how pictures were taken of the assembly in Paleis Huis ten Bosch and on the stairs in front of it.

last ones from PPE

I'm really glad she's back and looking so happy & regal... :D ;)

i agree with posts and HM Queen looks wonderful since her knee surgery and recovery get over! phew! and HM meet Olympics Sports athletes and collection first gold medal for longtimes and second place, thrid place no matter will win and get medal.

Ireen Wust (the nations favourite girl these days) commented that the Queen was absolutely lovely and funny. And she seemed very down-to-earth and talkative.

The Queen seems to hold on to two ice skaters on one of these pictures, so I assume walking still causes some difficulties (or maybe it is the stairs, as the knee has to make a different angle there).

Good to see the Queen again!! :)
I couldn't wait any more!!

Thanks Maxie. I just watched the video that someone else posted a link to, and she seems to be walking fairly good - at least on flat surfaces. As Marengo says, the stairs may be a bit more difficult. At least she's got all of those strong Olympians to help her out!

What a "high" these althletes must be on right now. First to win an Olympic medal, and then to have a meeting with their Queen! Makes me want to go down to the rink & start practising my skating!;)

Well, 'your' Cindy Classen was the Belle of the ball inTurin I think, she won 4 or 5 medals, quite exceptional!

According to gold-medalist Bob de Jong the queen told him she was seated on the tip of her chair (is that a correct way of saying that she just sat on the front side of it), because she was so excited and that she said she followed all the rides!

The athletes are mostly tired (according to themselves), but very happy as they received a warm welcome in The Hague, and a few days ago in Zwolle where a square filled with people were cheering them. They have to start in Calgary again in a few days btw.

Finally the Luxembourgians are coming!!! From the Benelux Royals MB, posted by journalist H. Jacobs:

The Grand-Duke and Grand-Duches of Luxembourg are expected for a state visit to the Netherlands between April 24-26, 2006. The official announcement will be made next week, but the visit has been confirmed by both sides; the GPD papers carried a short article today.

STAATSBEZOEK LUXEMBURG

That's great news!! Thanks for posting the info here as well. I'm really looking forward to this, it will be nice to see the Grand Duke and Duchess, we don't see enough of them. I hope the majority of the Dutch RF will take part, it would be great to see!

I hope so as well. I believe Willem-Alexander always had a good relationship with Henri and Marie-Therese, and as South Americans, I think marie-Therese and Maxima will have some things in common as well. I aalso expect margriet and Pieter to be present. Sadly Laurentien and Constantijn never participate in these things, but maybe for the Luxembourg royals they will come over (I expect them to attend a dinner of theatre performance in Brussels as well, when the Queen pays a state visit to Belgium).
