Report: Dutch queen will discuss disgruntled niece Monday
Sat Feb 22,12:07 PM ET
THE HAGUE, Netherlands - The Netherlands' Queen Beatrix will hold "crisis talks" with her closest advisors Monday about a disgruntled niece who has accused the royal family of persecuting her and her husband, a Dutch newspaper reported Saturday.
Citing an unnamed royal family member, the Volkskrant newspaper reported Queen Beatrix will return from a skiing vacation to discuss Princess Margarita, who along with her husband Edwin de Roy van Zuydewijn has given tell-all interview with the respected magazine HP/De Tijd.
The three-part series, titled "Orange Bitters," details Margarita's claims that the House of Orange had snubbed Edwin, who is not royalty, and that the family had investigated him and hurt his business.
The interview also details claims that Prince Bernhard — Beatrix's father and Margarita's grandfather — has kept a mistress for years.
The series has broke the traditional code of silence among the Oranges.
The royal family, unaccustomed to the kind of scandal that has haunted other European royal houses, responded curtly, saying it "doesn't recognize itself as portrayed" and "regrets" the series' publication.
"Out of love for Princess Margarita, the family restricts itself to this reaction," the family said.
Eef Brouwers, spokesman for the Dutch royal house, said Saturday there was nothing unusual about Beatrix's Monday morning meeting.
The anti-monarchy Socialist party has called on Prime Minister Jan-Peter Balkenende to intervene in the affair, which the party said threatened Netherlands' image.

It is one of the outfits she wore for the formal pictures taken earlier this year or last year for her birthday, right? There were a series of stunning pictures of the Queen. Does anyone remember these pictures and can share them?

She looks wonderful in the pictures, although the red hat is a bit odd. Too narrow and high perhaps?
I wouldn't say she's scary at all. She seems like she'd be fun.
Utrecht, Holland - Today Queen Beatrix was present at the opening of "Papal Splendour Treasures of the Vatican" at the Museum Catharijneconvent in Utrecht.

I have to agree with you Queen Bea does seem a little scary at times and I think that it has something to do with her her strong facial features, not to mention her very rigid hair style. But besides all of that she seems like the kind of women who can enjoy a nice brady and the occasional dirty joke.
