It only rarely happens, but when then with good reason.Princess Margriet cancelling a function with the Red Cross/Red Crescent is out of the ordinary. But the Princess cancelled a meeting today due to the serious illness of her son Prince Bernhard.Instead, she spoke to the attendants by video message.

Marengo, I support your contention that it is unethical for royal persons to avoid death taxes. Only if the death taxes are changed for others should the toyals be able to avoid them in this way. I am not so naive as to think that many ultra rich people manage to do the same as Princess Magriet and Professor Pieter. Just because others can do it does not make it right for the royals. The main justification for royalty in a democratic society is as moral leaders. "That they find legal ways to evade it doesn't make it right"--Marengo
We are suffering in America from a similar lopsided situation, in re our "Affordable Care Act". The Administration and the Congress are exempt from having to join the "Affordable Care Act", which will cost money and damage medical access to many middle class Americans. But it won't affect our Administration or Congress.

At the time I heard a radio programme about the matter, the commentator assumed that 'transparent deal' was made with the tax office, which is apparently common for these kinds of family foundations. He added that she/her family probably will have very little benifit of this foundation at the moment, as the law changed recently and the benifits of this loophole are very small after this change. But this was not the case when the foundation was started in 2009.

But to something much more worrisome:
A message from Princess Margriet, due to the illness of her son she is unable to attend the red cross meeting in person:
Margriet zegt af om zieke prins - NOS Nieuws
No new information about the prince's health has been released btw.
-
I also heard her in a radio commercial recently, to raise money for the Syrian refugees whose situation is even getting worse now the winter is coming up.

So many people needing help in the world, like the Syrian refugees whose plight Princess Margriet addressed. The plight of the Filipinos caught by the typhoon this week is terrible. This is said to be the biggest storm in human recorded history. Israel has sent hundreds of medical people there and many people trained in search and rescue for the injured and the dead.

As to the cancelling by HRH it was speculated that it had more to do with the distance, the meeting of the RC&RC is held in Australia then with eminent health scares other then already known.Speculation.Still,the very fact a cancellation took place at all has my worries focussed far more on Bernhard & Annette and their children at the time.

Well, she says in her speech that she is unable to attend due to her son's illness, so I suppose that is the reason. But if the meeting would have been in Geneva it would have been easier for her to go there.

The Rabobank, one of the sponsors of the event, adviced their employees not to attend the ball. The bank received a lot of negative press recently about interest fraud, and finds it unappropriate for their employees to attend such an event at present.

Princess Margriet attended the cutting of a 25 metre Christmas tree for the Ersamus hospital at the Loo in Apeldoorn today, December 2nd. The tree is a gift for the 150th anniversary of the Sophia children's hospital. Companies and individuals can buy a light that will benefit the development of the children's hospital.

Princess Margriet participates in a campaign to promote the use of protective glasses for people who want to use fireworks. The princess is the patron of 'Vision 2020 Netherlands', an NGO for blind and visually impaired people. Last year 264 people got wounds around/in their eyes and 23 people became blind on new years eve due to fireworks in their eyes.
