Thanks squidgy for those beautiful pictures, i know when all that happend , i was there with my sister. We had a lovely and exhausted day.:p :p
Wow! You are lucky to have been there Dutch Royal! It is nice to see pictures of something on the internet, but it is much better to be there in person and see everything.:)
It looks like it was a fantastic event - lots of pageantry and very colourful. And it was so nice to see Margriet back in public again after a 2 month absence. I thought she looked great and I loved her jacket. From the few photographs that I saw, it looked like maybe her back was causing her a bit of discomfort still. Do you think she will be OK to go through all the events surrounding her son's marriage near the end of August?
Tina, thanks for the baby pictures of Maurits. :) I especially like the one with Margriet. (I think the one with Pieter is kind of funny as he is wearing his military jacket - but I guess that was a common type of portrait for royalty back in the 1960s).
I've seen portraits of baby Maurits with his parents and portraits of Bernhard with his parents (see below), but I have never seen any of P-C or Floris. Does anyone have any early family portraits with these two boys? I would love to see them.

I guess that is what happens when you are the fourth son:(. I'm sure the pictures exist, but maybe just didn't get well publicized?
This is the only picture I have seen of baby Floris with his parents - but it is not a portrait unfortunately. It was taken at his baptism in 1975.

Wasn't there a joint/double-Dutch (not the skipping type! ) baptism at some point? I seem to have it lodged into my brain that it was one of Beatrix's sons and Margriet's sons, though I guess it must've been one of Margriet's older sons rather than Floris since none of Beatrix's sons are his age.

No, I think you are right, Alexandria. I think it was Bernhard and Constantijn who were baptized in the same ceremony in Feb. 1970.
I'm a little slow tonight ... just got the pun about Double Dutch! Good one Alexandria!
In late May 2005, Margriet agreed to become the first member of the International Paralympic Committee's (IPC) Honorary Board.
"As a member of the IPC Honorary Board, HRH has agreed to be an advocate and an ambassador for the Paralympic Movement, helping the IPC to disseminate the positive values and message of the Paralympic Movement to a wide an audience as possible." http://www.paralympic.org/release/Ma...5_05_25_a.html
Over the years Margriet has supported the Paralympic Movement, especially in 1980, when the games were hosted by the Netherlands. Margriet was part of the Organizing Committe and she opened the games.
She has been officially invited to attend the games next March in Turin, Italy.
1. Margriet opening the 1980 Paralympic Games, Arnhem.
2. Promoting the book on the 1980 Paralympics.
3. Meeting with IPC President Phil Craven in May 2005 at Het Loo House.
I think we see princess margriet next week thursday at the wedding of her son pieter christiaan, i heard that there will be a special chair for the princess because of her injury. I wonder what the bride, the royal family and of course the guests will wear. We will wait and see!!!!!:p :p :p Ill be there to make pictures of them together with my twins sister Jolanda!!
Dutchroyal, I'm sure you & your sister will have an exciting time at the wedding. Lucky you!:)
That's good that they are bringing in a special chair for Margriet. I can't imagine what it would look like... probably a Lazyboy would be nice ... but I can't see that happening.
Margriet & Pieter must be relieved that their first family wedding for this year has gone off without a glitch. It looks like a good time was had by all.
I loved Margriet's outfit for the religious ceremony, and thought that she was the best dressed royal (apart from the bride of course). She looked elegant & stylish ... and most importantly, she looked relaxed and happy. And of course, Pieter was his usual cheerful, well-dressed self.
Since there are so many pictures posted in the wedding thread, I thought I would hilight some of the proud parents.
ive got a beautiful picture taken by me at the civil ceremony of princess laurentien and het daughter eloise!!! It was a big surprise that the princess would show her face after being chased by the paparazi!!!!!:( :(
Pieter VanVollenhoven lost a tip of the index finger of his right hand while driving in Malta. He had surgery and the fingertip was re-attached, and Pieter is expected to make a full recovery. Here is an article in Dutch:
121958 sep 05
