Just an awful, rag, I can't believe the price tag on it! The belt looks like she borrowed it from mrs. claus. A really dowdy look coupled with exceptionally poor posture.

The Duchess of Cambridge's Daytime Fashion Part 20: October 2016 -
Dowdy is the word that best describes it for me too. Hair and accessories are equally dull. I really don't want to be a Scrooge in my comments but she's still gripping a clutch back to her front. If anyone who is a confidante of the Duchess reads these threads, please advise her to desist.

How Kate sported designer clothes worth more than £170,000 this year | Daily Mail Online
#
Here we go.
I am not at all a fan of the kind of journalism the DM seems to specialise in. Further, the maths is all wrong, and there is plenty of double counting to get to the number that the DM wants to push out.
But, the fact is, Kate does appear to be spending an awful lot of money on clothes these days. Whilst one might argue that it is not for us to comment as she / the PoW is paying for them, I think she could send out a very positive message that it is good to use your clothes repeatedly and over time. Very few dresses seem to be repeated, and she really needs to think twice, IMO, if she needs any new coats for the next decade or two.
I too have noticed that her clothes are increasingly designer and not high street, which I have no issue with. My bigger issue is that increasingly the designer wear she is using are not UK based labels. I do think it was wrong of her to wear D&G in Canada (she should have been in Canadian or British labels) or for an engagement with the Chinese Premiere and his wife, when she should have been in a British brand.
But more than anything, my view is that she will do well to take notice of this commentary, and not actively work towards shifting the narrative away from the cost of her clothing to perhaps the causes that she is espousing.

As long as her clothes are paid for privately, IMO it really isn't anyone's business how much she's spending, and she does a fair amount of recycling of her clothes, already.
She wears a mix of brands and to me, as I recall her outfits, seems to often favor British designers.
It wouldn't matter if she did charity work (visibly) 7 days a week. People would still complain about something.

The same funds that are paying for Kate are also paying for Camilla but we don't get a cost breakdown of her clothing or any other royal lady or royal gentlemen. It's click bait.

It seems to me that so many of her newer garments are less attractive than the ones she has worn in the past. Maybe she is trying to showcase more designers, but some of them should definitely be discarded from the list.
Perhaps she has stopped repeated wearings because she has been criticized for it in the past?

I tend to agree and find and doubt that some of the daytime dresses are easily versatile for repeated wearing - at least with suits/skirts/blouses you can mix things up a bit so that they remain fresh

JMO, but I think we saw a lot new this year in day dresses because hemlines trended down and fuller skirts became more the trend. Otherwise, I think she would have re-worn a lot of the short stuff again this year.

I think Kate's style has changed over the years. Now she seems to wear more often "grown-up" outfits than girl clothes. I also think she has developed a penchant for a retro look, among other things...

Imagine if she had worn that high, curly pony tail she wore a while ago . . . it would have given some definition to her shilloette and made the neckline look less like it was strangling her.
Basically she looks like a frump. While longer length skirts may be au courant, this one could have done with 4 - 6 inches whacked off the bottom.
Finally, all the Nana's I know wouldn't be caught dead in it!

Kate is still too young to wear this "miss Marple" look. And I don't like the length of her last dresses. Nice style to be worn when she is 20 years older from now

A broad black belt highlighting her waist - and the look would have been completely different

I dislike that coat. And with that faux-fur addition I dislike it even more.

She looked great. I love the coat, the color us great, and I like the little belt details on sleeves, adds interest. Only thing I don't like, hate the faux fur.
