I so agree, muriel! The portrait neckline is so flattering on her and I like her accessories.

What a perfect outfit for the event. The color of her dress also was spot on.

A nice and elegant look of yellow blouse and pencil skirt for Mathilde during the inauguration of the replica of the pontoon bridge across the Schelde river in Antwerp on October 3, 2014.

I like it when she is walking or standing, but when she is seated, it looks strange. The neckline is flattering on the queen.

the neckline is flattering, and the unusual shade of yellow is also. The big waist band part of the skirt looks like a medical device, a back support.

She looked great! The combination of the yellow and grey worked well. The high waisted skirt suits her very well. I really liked her hair, it gives her a much younger look.

I'm not a fan of the mustard yellow colour, but somehow it manages to work and looks good on Mathilde. I'm not so sure about her hairstyle as it looks a little unkempt at the edges to me, but overall she looks lovely.

Sometimes her northern neighbour, Queen Máxima, appears without a hat too. Then it is often about her "pet projects" like the Orange Fund or inclusive finances. However, when it is about an opening, a first-stone-laying, about cutting a ribbon, baptizing a ship or... escorting His Majesty The King, she always wears a hat and gloves and "spices up" with jewels. and has one or two Hofdames (Ladies in waiting) in her slipstream, also dressed with hats, gloves et al. That makes a 'grand entrance'.

Queen Máxima has made an extra step in her appearances, since she became Queen. In Belgium however, Queen Mathilde has not made that extra step. Imagine the same outfit with a nice hat, with gloves and with a sparkling broche. It is immediately "The Queen", now she blands away next to female dignitaries.

I know that Queen Paola and Queen Fabiola were not consistent hat-wearers (they were however until roughly the eighties). It is no crime to restore some decorum. The Belgian Court used to be grander than the Dutch Court but the latest decades the Belgians really have minimalized the "theatre of state".

Mathilde looked lovely. I would only have added the named accessoires. You are the Queen, show it, Madame!

Yes, hat may have helped. Was anyone else reminded of bananas ? Not trying to be rude.
I like the theater of state, love it actually, but can see wanting to appear down to earth too.

Mathilde did well because she visited Antwerp , the City whose Burgemeester is Mr Bart De Wever.
Wearing a hat and diamond earrings for visiting a cheese and vegetable Market was not necessary at all.

I'm undecided about whether I like the colour combination or not, but she looks very elegant.

The yellow looks good on Mathilde and skirt suits her very well. Overall she looked great, but I don´t like her hairstyle.

Only poor quality pics so far, but for a working luncheon in Hasselt today, October 7, Mathilde wore a pencil skirt and a blouse with an animal print:
