Queen Letizia's Daytime Fashion Part 13: October 2018 - March 2019

The use of the long black dress was a very antiquated introduction of Sofia (maybe being a foreigner and not having been born a Catholic, she thought that highlighted her Spanishness), she herself in Franco's time came to a delivery of flag in a long red dress, and decades before the own Queen Victoria Eugenia had dispensed with the use of the mantilla in these acts.

The mantilla is only used in Easter and weddings, and is used more in Andalucia but very little in the rest of Spain. So it's normal for it to be something that Queen Letizia does not identify with, because it is something that most Spanish people of her generation do not identify with.

As for visits to the Vatican, they have always differentiated between state visits, where queens do not cover their heads, and religious visits where they do.

In recent years with the changes of Francisco the Vatican protocol no longer requires it in religious ceremonies.

She has so many skirt suits and dresses, appropriate for a state visit, who told her she looks regal in snake dress? The only thing i like is her coat, the other things a big mess

Why did she pick this for a Welcoming Ceremony at a State Visit, honestly Letizia sometimes amazes me at her outfit choices for high profile events.

the outfit looks like thrown together at last minute, nothing works together. the dress is far too casual and too long for the coat.

yes you are right. This dress might be ok for the Arco visit tomorrow, but for sure NOT for an state visit/ welcome ceremony. I think generally there is nothing bad about a "cheap" dress for official events, as long it looks appropiate and this one looks just horrible far away from regal look!! the whole look makes it even worse. I choose an old fashion skirt suit over this mess! I think she had just two "perfect looks" for incoming state visit(Colombia&Argentine)

Not very elegant outfit for a welcome ceremony.

I think all the pieces are fine - just that she looks like she is swimming in the coat. She also tends to wear shorter coats over longer dresses, which a lot of us find irritating. It just messes with the lines of what she is trying to do. More-so in this case with that print sticking out. Ick, IMO.

I give her points for the red shoes/bag with the neutrals, though.

Its a welcome ceremony you look your best its not rocket science but yet Letizia is often clueless in this regard .Hopefully she'll pull it back tonight at the gala.

Agreed! I love the coat but why this dress for this occasion?

Oh, I don't like this at all. (And it's rare for me to not like Letizia's clothing. I tend to give her a pass on most of her clothes; maybe too often.)

The dress is not suitable for the occasion at all. The President's wife is in a lace dress (i.e. fancy-ish) and Letizia rolls up in...that.

Beyond all of that—I just don't like the dress at all. It's ugly.

Is there a banquet/dinner tonight? Hopefully, she's holding out to surprise us all. Fingers crossed.

This is awful. For the opening of an official visit, her dress should not be hanging below the hem of her coat unless it is a specific three quarter length coat with matching dress. This coat, while I do like it, is not intended to be a three quarter coat. Also, with the coat hanging open the way it is, looks like she decided at the last minute it was cold and grabbed the first coat out of the closet. Snake skin dress just creeps me out. The color of her shoes and bag are nice but I don't care for the ankle strap. I think they make your legs look stumpy.

Actually, why this dress at all. It does absolutely nothing for her shape from any angle. Even the print is not eye catching on her. Someone gave her a bum steer when they advised her to purchase this one. Rag bin please

I love the coat :flowers:

The dress is horrible. The length is not good on her form. Looks even more awkward length with the coat. I don't mind the print but the dress looks to be at least a size to big on her. Even with the belted waist, she looks bigger.

Its very odd and even disrespectful to wear snake-skin print dress to the state visit!

Like it wasn't enough the dress was too long, especially when worn with her shorter coat (it looked sloppy the way her dress's uneven hem outstretched below her coat!). Like it wasn't enough, she didn't bother to tie her coat's belt, it just tangled there. The neutral colors with red accessories worked but her dress ruined this look totally! Not regal and appropriate look for this occasion.

Oh seriously a horrible leather dress on a State Visit ,Letizia did manage to do something nice with her hair.

I can understand that they are visiting the Contemporary Art Fair but a leather dress...on the queen...during the state visit...seriously????

What is going on in Peru that this is the dress Letizia deems appropriate for their state (STATE) visit?

(Am I wrong, but I thought state visits were really special and normally formal?)

So that I'm not a complete negative Nelly—I do love the look. The dress is fun and so is her hair. But not for this visit.

Letizia gives out so many awards that she should have saved this dress for an awards presentation where the recipients were "funky" and would appreciate a leather dress with a saucy ponytail.

For this occasion, it just looks odd.

They are at the opening of ARCO ... an international fair of contemporary art ... modern, transgressive, controversial... if there is an event for this dress, that is ARCO. The expected thing is that the queen risks in ARCO.

If I didn’t know her I would have never guessed that this is the queen of Spain! Although I understand that this was a visit to a Contemporary Art Fair, I still find her look very odd

The look is far too celebrity for a State Visit, she's totally missed the mark for the arrival ceremony and again today.

Why only the Queen? If this is not the place to dress classic/boring I'd love to see a risky outfit of the King, too ;)?

The black leather dress is gorgeous...but not for a queen. Sometimes Letizia seems to forget that she is the queen of Spain
