At these two events Prince Friso was still alive.

Oh yes, of course, you are right. It was after the terrible accident but the Prince indeed was still alive. Then we can conclude Princess Mabel has only worn black since the Prince's death.
For some reason I like it that royals stick to traditions. When Prince Claus died in 2002, his widow -Queen Beatrix- observed mourning as well. Princess Mabel is doing the same. I agree: it takes a long time indeed.

Pretty, but - and I don't mean to be disrespectful here, is it not like the modern Queen Victoria?

Afaik P.Mabel already wore quite a lot of black in her everyday life before the tragedy, and she does occasionally use some colored accents so it's not complete mourning dress like Q.Victoria.
She doesn't do the big fashion-statements anymore, but maybe that's also because she doesn't really do big royal events at the moment..

I believe Princess Mabel also no longer attends the shows of her friends Viktor & Rolf.
Since the funeral Princess Mabel has only worn the black dress with one white sleeve for the Memorial Service. Since then she has primarily worn black.
Before the tragedy she wore more colour. In green at the wedding of Princess Carolina. In blue at Princess Máxima's 40th birthday. In bright red at Queen's Day. In green and red at the wedding of the Duke of Parma. In white during private pastime in Stockholm. In grey overall during Queen's Day. In black-and-white, arriving at Het Loo Palace. Etc.

On some occasions she has started to use some non-black details like this pic from 2014

She should wear what she feels best in, if that's black at this time, that's fine

Mabel looks nice. It's interesting that she wore a bit of colour in her outfit. I wonder if this means that we'll be seeing her adding small touches of colour to her outfits from now on.

The Princess has already worn colour earlier, for an example a stunning gala gown (with bow, he he...) for the King's Water Pageant on Investiture Day 2013.

That was before Friso passed away, albeit after his accident. I do not believe she has been seen in much colour since his death.

A nice outfit but for a lady in her position and for an event in that majestic building, I expect something more than a pyjama...

So glad she's not wearing head to toe black that I don't really care what she's wearing. Her hair does look very nicely done and it seems there is a spark in her eyes again. So nice to see the "spunky" Mabel back.

It is great to see her abandon all black ensembles, I trust she is feeling a bit better now.

Princess Mabel is linked to a new lover. She seems to have met a certain gentleman on a masked ball organized by the Millers (the parents of Marie Chantal, the Princess Pavlos of Greece). Maybe that is a reason for "a new spark" in her appearance?
But Mabel has been linked before to her old school-mate Mark Rutte (the current Prime Minister of the Netherlands), to Marc Bolland (the Dutch CEO of the British firm Marks & Spencer). Anyway, we have to wait and see. The Princess indeed seems to wear more colours now.
