I agree.
Her eclectic style certainly makes her unique among the women in the Dutch Royal Family.

She is becoming 41, making her much older than Máxima, Mary, Mathilde, Mette- Marit, Märtha-Louise and Metizia.... but she has a very outspoken style laurentinoise
She is a very popular and loved member of the Royal House and after Princess Máxima absolutely the best known in the Netherlands (the other ladies are hardly known, with an exception for Princess Mabel).
She is also very important in the Queen's family:
she is known to the royal family all her life long (her mother lived with Princess Beatrix when she studied at Leyden University) and her father has had a looooong political career as minister, ambassador and -until recently- vice-premier in the Queen's service.
As the eldest and first in-law she is the spider in the web and has spun the three brothers and their respective families together into a strong and almost unbreakable bond.
I am happy with her. And her style. Tja... it is Laurentien.... who else?
:)
Her Royal Highness Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands posing for a portrait.
Even the painting at the background and the bouquet tell about her outspoken taste!
The picture is from the Royal House. I have uploaded it to my own webspace.

I just think that if you put Laurentien in a "normal" suit that you might see Letizia or Mathilde wearing, it wouldn't be Laurentien anymore. Her personality would radiate through of course, but it would feel like something was missing.

I find it also fitting that Queen Beatrix has sons who are seemingly quiet, low key and demure in their personalities and nature yet they married three very vibrant women with strong and bold personalities. All three of the Queen's daughter-in-laws have very unique senses of style: Maxima loves bold colours and loud hats, Mabel likes Viktor & Rolf's creative stylings (not to mention those bows!), while Laurentien favours bold and colourful prints and patterns.
Princess Margriet's daughter-in-laws seem to favour a more low-key, classic style (except possibly Anita who seems to like bold patterns and prints, too). (Though sometimes Marilene's hats make me scratch my head!)

Most royals are balancing somewhere within safe lines. But Princess Laurentien, with her it is alwas a hit or a total miss, a lady of extremes.
But sometimes she can look extremely stylish. I found the outfit of prinsjesdag 2004 extremely elegant and was impressed by her jewelry (the pearl choker with the large cabochon emerald).

Hmmmm, some of her worst....this will be a while.
For starters, the dress she wore to CP Frederik's wedding. Good God almighty. You. Have. To. Wear. A. Bra. I don't know who told her she looked good like that, but whoever they are........they should be fired. Distasteful to say the least. I don't care if you're a princess, a queen or a schoolteacher....you wear a bra.
There just.......are no words. That is awful in ways that haven't been defined in the dictionary yet. It is one of the most offensive-looking outfits I've seen a human being wear.
This looks like curtains wrapped up and stuck in the middle with a giant buckle. The pattern is too busy, the color is ugly, the buckle is ridiculous, the shoes are ugly and that hat.......no.
That ridiculous tweed-looking vest killed this outfit. I liked what was going on underneath the vest, color and pattern-wise and I liked the cut of it as well. The big bell sleeves seem to work for her. But the tweed vest.....oh gross. That hat is pretty freaking ugly too.

For her best I have one so far:
I love the red color on her but it looks a little too much like Letezia's dress to me. But it's a great dress on her.

Its pathetic, the dress could be nice, but it looks a soooooo bad copy of Letizia's dress, and there is no comparison with Letizia , Letizia was unique in Denmark, so wonderfull with this dress, that every royal should svoid to wear a red dress for the next 2 centuries......

That's my favourite dress of Princess Laurentien:
She wore it for the wedding of Mette-Marit and Haakon in 2001!

It is all couture
We may dislike or like it. Princess Laurentien is an unique lady, a mother of three, in her forties and a very, very popular and beloved Princess with an unmistakenable very personal style.
But even her worst nightmare gowns were all expensive coutures. Look at this: http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/8194/lau21yn.png

True, but some things should never be worn off the runway!!!!!
And I only have two words about my least favorite outfit of hers: Torpedo Boobs!

The dress on the model doesn't look half bad IMO. And it has nothing to do with the model or Laurentien. I think its the hat. Sometimes she doesn't know when to quit. If she had some flowers or something maybe it wouldn't be so bad.
And I love her in the red dress!

I totally agree with you Her Majesty. This is one of my all time favourite evening gowns worn by Laurentien. It was very elegant and it complimented her skin tone and her body shape very well. I do wish that this is a gown she'll repeat in the future. She looked fabulous in it!

Who cares how much they cost, how old she is, how many kids she's had or what she does for a living? The woman just flat-out can't dress sometimes. That's what this thread is about.....highlighting the best and the worst.

Yes, that is true, but just because you have on couture doesn't mean that it will look good on you. I've seen some couture dresses from well known and respected designers and it looks like crap. Excuse my language. Sometimes these dresses don't even look good on the models. Maxima knows how to dress, I'm suprised Laurentein hasn't taken a cue form her. It also amazes me that Laurentein doesn't look at herself in a mirror and go "wait a minute". I undertsand she has her personal style but it's a little extreme don't you think? I mean there is some outragous things she wears that I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
