The orange coat looks much better than the grey-green one, which looks totally outdated, IMO.

I'm with you, Patra. I don't think either one one of these coats are fashionable or flattering on Anne.

Everyone is going to think I am nuts but I like Anne even with the odd clothes and old fashioned hair style. She reminds me of a rather eccentric great aunt. Some how even though her clothes and hair aren't close to being fashionable in a strange way they suit her.

For days at the races at this time of year I don't think high fashion is a primary concern and it certainly not ever a prime concern of the Princess Royal since she can reach into her closet and still wear outfits from 30 years ago. Cheltenham is not Ascot.

I don't mind the coat, but the hat was awful. It looked old and mis-shaped and did nothing for the shape of her face. Fedora + narrow jaw = disaster.

I understand what you mean. Anne strikes me as someone strong-willed and uncompromising, and her clothing expresses that.

She had previously worn the same coat orange overcoat at last year's Grand National.
Now, I think the patterned coat is nice but the hat is just vile.
As for the orange overcoat, it's not horrible but I much rather prefer it sans the hat and with a lovely black Chanel bag (as worn for the Grand National).

Don;t like the color of the orange coat. The patterned coat is not bad. Imagine if she had worn an elegant hat with it what a difference the whole look would be.

Yes, the patterned coat is actually quite nice. Dunno, I actually don't find the hat THAT bad, but together with the coat and the boots... It's a bit like Princess "Inspector Gadget" Anne. I guess we all know that Anne simply doesn't care and I admire it to some degree. She's no clothes horse, she has more important things going in her mind obviously. On the other hand it is a bit of shame as she used to be such a beautiful young woman and as she still is in great shape she could look sooo much better.

Yesterday, March 23, Princess Anne has been the guest of honour at a ceremony to mark the centenary
of Captain Robert Falcon Scott's doomed expedition to the Antarctic. She joined family members and
descendants of the Terra Nova Expedition team at the rededication of the National Scott Memorial in
Plymouth, where the explorer was born.

Princess Anne attending a reception with IOC President Jacques Rogge to discuss the progress of the preparations for the London 2012 Olympics and its legacy. She wore a lovely blue suit, combining it with a scarf, black bag and shoes, and a brooch.
- The suit
- Close up
- The shoes
I think she looks really nice!
The suit is very elegant and well-tailored, the shoes and the bag are well chosen, and the scarf with brooch are interesting additions.

She looks very elegant indeed. The combination is really nice and I love the scarf combined with the suit.

The blue suit combined with the scarf looks really good. I don't like the shoes, they look old and worn out.

That's because Anne's shoes Are old! She wears them with every navy blue outfit she owns. Perhaps she has several exact pairs of them.. I do like her suit and the pretty scarf softens the look.

I think she looks great, too. I get the feeling that, like me, the Princess Royal is not a shopper. I just dragged out blouses from the 80s for the summer, because I still like them and don't like what is fashionable at the moment.
Her shoes may be vintage, but they are far more attractive (IMO) than today's shoes. The shoes are in like-new condition and so is the bag, so it matters not.
I applaud the PR for being her own person.

Princess Anne elegant and classy in green at a thanksgiving service for the Queen Mother and
Princess Margaret at St George's Chapel on March 30, 2012. Great colour and cut for her!

Oh yes, this is undoubtedly one of the smartest outfits I have seen Princess Anne wear for a long time. This very deep green shade with the contrasting black brocade is such an elegant statement. Lovely to see Princess Anne "step out" like this.

Beautiful teal blue with the black frog closures and mandarin collar, and lovely brooch. I just wish for a larger hat rather than that little clump on the back of her head. It's just lost in her hair!

Anne looks absolutely beautiful!
I love the coat, the hat, the brooch, the bag - every single part of the ensemble. Actually, of all the royal ladies today, I think Anne looked the smartest.
