Just because she dresses up, doesn't mean that her style changes. To me, her clothes always look dowdy. Whether she's going casual or regal.

The dress isn't horrible, but the way Stephanie styled it (with the necklace, scarf and hair) just ruined the whole dress for me.

The dress would have looked much better if she had kept it simple.

Hmmmm...wow. I honest to God think that gown looks better on Stephanie than the model, who has no hips or bustline to speak of.

Stephanie should have ditched the shawl though, absolutely.

It's not about her body shape, but how it's styled. The necklace and the scarf, just didn't add anything to the dress and made Stephanie look really dowdy. Sometimes less is more and I think this dress definitely looks better with minimal accessories. Plus, I thought her hair pulled back like that, looked too severe for the dress.

Yes, I think Stephanie rocked the gown better than the model since she filled it out better. But the fixation with shawls can downgrade a nice look.

Her dress is good. She dresses decently, her face and body are good, she has a beautiful smile, she seems to be a nice, educated, polite and intelligent woman but she lacks a kind of "je ne sais quoi" in relation to fashion. Just that. And that doesn't mean that sometimes she will look beatiful and appear with a wonderful dress. And you know what - she is very lovable the way she is.

Sometimes it is very much about body shape because it affects the way a gown hangs. But you are absolutely right about the too severe hairstyle. She should have worn the same gorgeous soft chignon hair she had for her wedding day.

True, but in this instance I was more focused on how much better the dress looked without all that extra stuff. I thought the dress was horrible when I first saw it, but seeing the original made me realize that the dress is actually nice. It's Stephanie's styling that ruined it for me.

The color is gorgeous but the dress is a little too much for me.

The tiara and hair are not right for the dress either. You either go full out with that kind of dress, or you don't.
I have to agree. She'll figure out her own style in the future.

The only thing "extra" she had on was the dumb chiffon shawl. Everything else...tiara, necklace etc was perfectly appropriate.

She still has a ways to go, but I still say it's early in the game for her and I see her trying at least. She has come a long way from the girl who wore that awful(imo) red engagement dress, that supershort white dress to Princess Estelle's christening, and then showed pantylines at Berg Castle a few weeks later.

I want to see how she manages tomorrow's events, then next weekend's Octave ceremonies in Luxembourg, and then that business dinner in NYC that she is scheduled to attend with Guillaume in July.

The problem has never been her shawls but the way she carries them. Just have a look at Mrs Annan - one of the most ellegant ladies of the night IMO!

Mrs Annan is also much more seasoned at this sort of thing and has about 30-35 years on Stephanie. She also might have a natural knack for wearing clothes that Stephanie does not have and may never acquire...which is fine.

As long as she does not embarrass herself or her country-which so far she has never done-she will be fine.

She has time to find her style.

Several commented that her hair looked darker. Maybe it actually is darker and she has decided not to lighten it. Slightly darker hair will frame her pale face nicely. I can't imagine her coming to this gala with dirty hair.

I have read that securing a tiara is easier on hair that has not been washed. Anyway I hope she has not darkened her hair. The honey blonde color is perfect for her complexion.
