I asked this on the Trooping thread, but it is far more likely for me to get help on this thread, maybe? As more male royals are likely to wear the object of my interest.

Anne's bicorne in the last two years had started to show wear. That's so un Anne-like. This year at Trooping it was polished and shiny. How do they do that and (underlying question) of what are those hats made?

I did search on bicorne and UK military dress uniforms. What I found out about bicornes is that they are made of wool - but I know of no way to polish wool so that it shines.

Does anyone have suggestions for search strings/sites so that I can figure this out? Or does anyone know what these seemingly hard military toppers are made of? Thanks in advance.

Leather. - They used to be made of boiled leather, that should make it easier to polish them and form them into the right shape. Not sure about the process nowadays.
But it's basically the same way you made the leather helmets for heavy dragoons and indeed the helmets worn by infantry of the line in Austria-Hungary during the Napoleonic wars, and that also about the same time the bicorn hats went into use.

Tricorn hats and the bicorns were indeed also made from wool or felt, but sometimes also leather. But leather tricorns were expensive, so wool was more common. The helmets I mentioned above used by the Austrian-Hungarian army were indeed discontinued during the Napoleonic wars, partly due to costs but also because they were heavy and uncomfortable for soldiers who had suffered head injuries. But first and foremost they were expensive. So they were replaced with chakos.

 Wonderful, Daniel couldn't more Swedish if he was paid for it. :swedenflag:

As for Haakon: Ladies, if any of you are married to a man like Haakon, who has shoes like Haakon's, be sure to burn them!
Because old ugly shoes are like carrier pigeons, they always come home!

If you dump them in the garbage can, you can be sure that's the day your husband for whatever reason lifts the lid to have a look. And if he isn't home, they will somehow fall out outside the hedge, for your husband to find when he returns.
If you bury them, you can be sure your dog will dig them up, or your neighbor's dog and return them to your husband.
If you dump them in the sea, they will somehow float ashore and by some miracle your husband will go for a walk on that very beach and find them.
So you must burn them. Put garlic in them drive a stake through them and burn them to ashes :voodoo: - and even then you can't be sure... :ermm:

You mean they might return in phantom form and float in the air above Haakon and Mette Marit's bed? What a horrible thought!

:D :previous: Well, I'm pretty sure they are appearing in Mette-Marit's nightmares...

:previous: now that is a tie that stands out :flowers:

Frederik yesterday with the family at the summer horse-rider parade. With a lovely and modern blue jacket

Great outfit for this event

Now, I dont know if you noticed the Queen's raincoat ;), but Frederik made a smart choice with more "quiet" colors. But he is his mother's son, so the day before was spotted wearing these cool flower shorts :D

He gets a pass as this was a private outing with the family
Plus the summer beard is an added bonus.

Now on to Sweden, where Daniel cant seem to be apart from those double-breasted coats. :bang: Now add the tight jeans and those ugly-Haakon shoes, and this outfit is a big miss for his wife's birthday

I agree about Daniels shoes. I don't mind the trousers, they are fine and coordinated with the dress of Victoria and the rest of his family.

:previous: It only proves that Swedish men can't dress casually, it goes against their very nature. :D

There was a period of time a few months ago when I thought William was changing his style but he's backtracked. William has a... trying to think of a polite way to say this.. a very fit and attractive physique, not that you can usually tell with the clothes he wears. Put him in a well made suit or casual clothes that fit him properly and he'd look so good!

IMO Prince William's fashion was a desaster in Poland and Germany, he has no sense to dress compared to his father, he looks like a boring dad, very dated with his old fashioned patterened jackets.

His dress sense reminds me of my high school and university mathematics teachers and lecturers! Not a good look, especially the evening pic, where Catherine looked gorgeous. It appears he removed his tie and changed the jacket. Poor effort.

:previous: looking very good. The summer beard just adds extra points to his handsomeness

Style wise, very practical and simple. Sailing with his wife and kids around Denmark. The cool-modern vest to keep warm

Now for a more hmm colorful and right down ugly summer style, let us catch up with King Philippe. Please be warned the outfit is a danger to ones eyes:eek:

Hot pink and mustard yellow. Together! yikes!

:previous: Oh poor Mathilde! She must need a brillo pad to scour her eyes after that ensemble made its debut.

Yes. Couldn't Mathilde have reasoned with him before he went out?

:previous: It was no doubt Mathilde who made him wear it... ?

You see she and the King had an altercation no doubt. Perhaps he accidentally said her dress is a bit tight or something like that. Even experienced married men sometimes make that mistake...

So Queen Mathilde persuaded her husband to dress like we see in the photo and then she send an MMS to the other queens all over the world with the text: Look what I made mine wear. That'll teach him!
- It's true, our postman who knows everything told me. ;)

I *had* to check whether King Philippe's latest summer "fashions" made it to this thread. It did!

It has to have been a dare from either Queen Mathilde or CP Elisabeth. How could they let their husband/father out like that!

Or this is Philippe's best attempts of illusion. No one would believe he is the King of the Belgians dressed like that - oldest trick in the book!

He wouldn't be sporting a bright pink shirt and yellow mustard pants, but rather a black eye if he said something like that to Mathilde!

It was probably Mathilde saying to him "I bet $10 you wouldn't wear this fashion combo in public with Elisabeth and myself". Philippe replied with what we are seeing...guess Queen Mathilde needs to pay up!

Swedish TV-host Martin Björk posted this photo of him and Daniel to his Instagram on 4th July
"That Daniel and I wear similar clothes when we go to a party, it is an old story".

And Vestito Fashion tells today that the jacket is from them

I have said it before and say it again, Daniel's double-breasted suits are gorgeous. I would hope that he would never wear anything else but them.

Great jacket. Nice details.

I think I prefer the camo jacket rather than the 'waiter on a cruise ship' one!

Joachim looks like a waiter who got caught in the group photo!!

Yes, perfectly attired - as always - but he left his inner hippie at home this time.
His "rainbow" belt could be his regimental belt, but it's an odd thing to wear with a tux.
