Didn't Prince Philip get an award for sartorial elegance from the Gentleman's Quarterly magazine last year? So it's not Philip they take after. Might be the Spencer side of the family!

As far as Harry is concerned, apart from when in uniform he does look very nice in white chinos and very thin blue shirts!
I do believe that you are correct Curryong. Perhaps there is hope that when William and Harry are in their 90's that they'll be honored by the same magazine too. ;)

You can't have seen some of the photos I've seen over the last few days. I didn't need to know William dresses to the left. :argh:

No haven't seen those! Hopefully whoever his people are will make the necessary adjustments to his clothing!

LaRae

Harry has the same problem, as noted by other posters in the past. I hope they're not sharing boxer undies as well as the blue suit!

There appear to have been a misunderstanding about what I meant with shirtsleeves must be showing.

Observe and marvel at Prince Charles.

Shirtsleeves are showing.
Great ties.
Funny, always well-folded handkerchiefs.
Shoes that are shining.
Trouser-legs that are folded up to the correct length - so no "water in the basement" here.
Interesting things on his lapel.
That's how you do it!:cool::cool: :notworthy:

Then we have William. :argh:

No handkerchief. :ermm:
Sleep-inducing ties.
No shirt-sleeves showing.
Nothing on his lapels. Where is the fun?
No, no, no. At best he can get one  for his watch.

I wouldn't want to go back to the 70's where men's pants were so tight they left little to the imagination....well fitted jeans/pants are nice to see.

I guess I don't see the issue with William's pants...they are just generic pants for the most part. He's pretty fit.

LaRae

The Bee Gees style pants?

I remember it. There was a reason why the Bee Gees sang the way they did... :w00t::w00t::w00t: :D

William does wear hankerchiefs from time to time. He isn't alone in ditching them among the younger royal men.

But definitely agree some interesting ties, and lapel pins could add so much more.

William could have shown some individuality and personality by wearing brightly coloured ties in typical Bhutan patterns, and matching socks.:D OK, perhaps the socks would have been a stretch, but it would have won some fans, I think. Heck, he could have even really lashed out and worn a colourful shirt.

He has missed the opportunity to wear a tie featuring the beautiful Blue Poppy that is the national flower of Bhutan in the design. That would have gone very nicely with his blue suit, too. But, alas, it was not to be.

i don't think that William is so risky, and I didn't expect exotic or colorful patterns from him. I have the feeling he is not so fond of bright textures and designs. (See how he teased Kate more than once for wearing bright green or yellow. :)) To me, this means he prefers neutral colors.

I am quite sure you are right, and I find that very sad.

William looked great during the visit to the Taj Mahal - crisp white shirt, blue linen jacket and sand-coloured trouser with dark brown shoes - it just takes a bit of contrast to really make a difference!

Let's look at fathers and sons.

Robin Utrecht | Photoshelter
First we have Frederik and Christian.
Nice!
Handkerchief. - Frederik can be excused since he has several small children milling around, so his handkerchiefs may actually end up being used...
Shirtsleeves showing.
Funny ties.
:cool::cool:

Then we have Joachim and Felix.
Perfect, as can be expected.
Shirtsleeves, check.
Ties that stands out.
Neatly folded handkerchiefs.
And Felix red slip-over as the icing on the cake.

PH is unusually discreet this time, but he can't help having purple buttons on his suit.

Where would we be without Prince Henrik's touches of flamboyance! I'm going to miss them really.

Maybe he is of the opinion that colorful clothes are fine on a woman, but not on a man. Just speculating. :flowers:
Or perhaps it's part of a deliberate dress down to fade into the wallpaper?

Now, there is male fashion - good or bad and then there is Prince Henrik and he is off any scale!

Here are two examples of outfits only PH could away from wearing in public.

First we have PH at the return-dinner at the recent Mexican state visit.
He is actually pretty subdued but nevertheless you won't see many royals wear a striped suit.
Interesting tie.
Neat shirt.
Lapel.
Handkerchief.

And here is PH at the Royal Theater in his usual style, which worn by any other would result in the ushers calling the dogs and the bomb squad. But PH can get away with it, without anyone battering an eyelid.

If there is ever an exhibition of outfits worn by PH I predict it will become an international sensation.

I certainly couldn't see any of the male Windsors getting away with it, or Daniel! If an exhibition of Henrik's clothing ever came to Australia I would go and see it, and enjoy it.

I think this is his style and he has been dressing like this for years. If the other Royals had this style then I think we would all be used to it.

If all the royal men dressed like PH, this thread would be the most active on TRF!

No one would care about what Kate or Maxima is wearing. :p

LOL. If they weren't too large I can see his son Joachim using them in the future. ;)

in other news, William used his trusty blue suit for the new 4 generation photo
http://images.thehollywoodgossip.co...h-prince-charles-queen-elizabeth-ii-and-p.jpg
nothing exciting there but I noticed he is usuing the same tie as he did for the previous 4 generation photo
http://img.wennermedia.com/620-width/prince-william-queen-charles-george-inline.jpg

I would say he was going for the emotional connection but knowing William's sense of style (and that he uses this tie very often) something tells me he did not notice lol
he loses points this time for lack of handkerchief

:previous: Yep, I definitely think William could give the Swedes a run for their money in the Boring Stakes!

Pic
It's funny that Obama unintentionally coordinated his tie with the queen's dress and prince Philip coordinated his tie with Mrs. Obama

And here we have the as always well-attired gentleman, Joachim, wearing a refreshing outfit.
Notice the youthful brightish red tie.

CyrilVladisla, you should have posted a warning! I briefly saw William in speedos (I think it's called) and had to call my psychologist!

:previous: I dont think that's William in the speedos, but nevertheless nice photo :D

and yes. its a very lovely tie that Joachim has worn, it really makes the outfit.

:previous:
Gorgeous suit! Fits well, Frederik looks sharp and i think always does in darker suits.

Now this is what you wear to open a Rock'n'Roll museum ;)
a little bit of "dazzle" with a pinstripe suit and a lovely dot tie
http://sn.dk/modules/xphoto/cache/57/796157_930_9300_18_0_1538_1063_2.jpg

it just screams confidence and a coolness factor ;)

I agree. And in getting better pictures I noticed his tie along with dots have little red hearts

Stylish man Frederik

Yeah, yeah, Frederik and Carl-Phillip may be scruffy and casual and what not.
But the real yard-stick for male royal fashion is PH. He is the master. He is sensei.

And today he effortlessly did it again. Donned what we in DK will call a Johnny Reimar outfit (schlager-singer) and wiped the floor easily outdoing anyone else present.

Look CP & Frederik and weep.
