Yes, the coat is more suitable as day wear. The green dress is beautiful. Maybe she could have 'dressed' it up a bit more with jewels for a more dramatic look. But she still looks good.
Quite right. Some lovely necklaces and a great pair of earrings would have finished off this outfit well. As is, the outfit as a whole looks boring.

I agree, the dress looks too casual, nothing really special. But the coat is lovely, though. :flowers:
I agree with you :)
The dress would be very nice as daytime outfit, but not for an evening event, IMO, and especially with the dark tights... The coat is amazing, I think it looks great for this event, and also does her hairdo.

I love the outfit. But not right for a gala dinner. I was hoping for a smarter dress. :flowers:

So was I, lumut. But alas, Princess Mary is only human, after all. She can't be perfection All of the time...

I think the hairstyle is messy and makes her look old and strained in some of the photos....

I love the colour of Mary's dress, and the the way it falls, it appears to be made of very soft material, so perhaps it is more suitable for evening, than the photos show, it is very difficult to tell.
I also like the coat, and her hair, perhaps some nice jewellery, would have added a little extra, however I do think Mary looked lovely.

I disagree. I think the outfit was well chosen.
If Mary has dressed up more (e.g. with a long galadress or more dramatic jewels) she would have been too overdressed for the event.
This event was attended by several politicians. ... Angela Merkel and Hillary Clinton wore pant suits for this event. A Princess in a "Princess-look" would have been a little out of place. Apart from that; I also don't think a real "gala" look wouldn't have been really appropriate for the reason of the gala...
the focus should be on the conference and not on this gala. I think the Royal Ladies had this in their mind and dressed properly.
I am glad they didn't host a real "Tiara and Orders" gala dinners (like some people expected earlier). This would have been completely out of place.
That's only my opinion of course. ;)

Lovely white coat, underneath a green dress (don't like the fact that it is already showing)

After taking off the white coat, a green wrap dress, lovely colour

I can't believe that CP Mary didn't dress up a little more for this event. I've got several dresses simlar to this one and so does my friends, and we use them on a daily basis to work et cetera.

This is not a dress for an occation like this, this is a dress for daily wear. CP Mary usually is dressed very elegant. But this time she is kind of "underdressed" compared to what expected to the occcation, if that is a word to describe it.

I feel Mary was dressed beautifully for the dinner, considering the reason for the dinner the Royal ladies didn't go all out with gowns and tiara gala. Mary took her cue from Her Majesty.

I didnt expect this dinner to be a tiara and long gown event but I personally thought that Mary couldve worn a proper cocktail dress reather than a daytime dress.

It's a pretty green dress but I thought she'd wear something "warmer". It's so cold in Denmark. I adore the white coat. And I like her hair styled like this.

Wouldn't it be nice to do bit of speculation what Mary might wear tonight?

I can imaging that the repeats the dark blue gown she has worn on Jan 1st, 2006

2 alternatives:
the green strapless gown she has worn for the statevisit from Luxemburg in late 2003 with a black shrug.

But I'm not sure if it will look that good with the rubies...

or...
the turquise one-shoulder-gown she has worn first in January 2005, and later for the 60th birthday of the swedish king, again with a black shrug, as you can see in...

(but again not sure how it looks with the rubies)

I think the dark blue gown is perfect because of the sleeves and the regal color, it goes very well with the ruby tiara and the order of the elephant chain. I'm quite sure, that she does not wear a new gown.

I like this dress specially. It is simple but classy, and the stole is nice too:flowers:

I would love for Mary to wear something new, but the blue gown would be wonderful. :flowers:

Thanks a lot.

I can't wait to see her new full gown.

Thet's interesting gown but I don't like Mary's pale and thin look.
Maybe that lights...

i like the idea of the detachable skirt , it might changeafter foranother ocasiion, good idea1

I love the gown and its colour...at least its not a dark colour that she wears all of the time.
This is a bold color departure for CP Mary and she looks absolutely fantastic.

The wrap style and the combination of 2 materials make this dress interesting. The material may appear shiny because of the camera flashes!

I would so love to see a photo of this dress from inside the palace!

Lovely gown but I am not a fan of the shiny fabric. The colour is great but I don't like it together with the Ruby tiara. Orange does not work with silver or red, the main colours of Mary's tiara and her other jewellery, but suits gold or gold-ish colours (the elephant order and the light brown fur Mary is wearing). To make the colour mess complete Mary chose a silver clutch ... each piece is beautiful and very elegant but I don't like the combination / differences in style (orange-gold-silver-red) that Mary chose for tonight.
