Not a bad dress. I am not liking the match of the leopard print pump and the red clutch.

If that is a green dress, I am liking it.

A necklace would help, too! Diamonds for sure! That dress is made for some serious bling around the neckline. She looks a bit naked without it, but it does not seem to be what today's royal princesses focus on.

Mary could have worn her wedding tiara as a necklace, or I have always thought that HM could have the King Faud diamond necklace which she rarely wears, redesigned and give it to Mary to wear.

Fair dues Lady Nimue, Crown Princess Mary has never underestimated the power of jewellry. Right from the very start when she walked out wearing the entire Ruby Parure, her carriage perfect, ensuring that she wore the parure and not the other way around.
No, Mary understands couture and knew that the gown, being a "statement" gown, had to stand on it's own merits, even more so when such a dramatic asymmetrical neck and shoulder line is involved. This event was not a 'royal' event as she was there as just one of the many recipients. She intended to look royal, not rich. So, her hair and her jewellry could either make or break the gown.
Her fabulous aquamarine chandelier earrings more than complimented both Mary's colouring and her gown, but wearing such a gown takes more than just zipping up the back or side, it takes an innate sense of style. Had she added a diamond necklace it would have hung scooped around her neck, it's body line at total odds with the asymmetrical neckline and, in doing so would have looked both "Hollywood" and tacky. Even the remarkable bracelet she wore was a little borderline OTT.

What's royalty for if not the Big Statement.
Done right, it would have been exquisite.

I tried to upload the photo of HM wearing the King Faud necklace yesterday but couldn't get it to work. So will try again. This necklace should be broken up and remade into something else if she doesn't like it. It is rarely worn. It Works!!

I love the necklace.
But in regards Mary and that blue off-the-shoulder dress, I was thinking of something both larger and more delicate, like a shower of small diamonds. Maybe what I am thinking of doesn't exist - yet.

HM may not like it, but I think that is a lovely and versatile necklace - a type that none of the Scandinavian royals have. I think when the time comes, Mary will do it justice.

Mary's recycled her purple Alexander McQueen dress tonight for the fourth time, I believe. She hasn't worn it since 2009. I'm not a fan of the dress, but I do love seeing her wear stuff from years before.
