It does have retro look to it. Love it!

Cute dress, lovely fabric, color and print. Only Mary can wear the inverted pleats at the hip which puff out the area.
Great earrings too.

Couldn't disagree more. Many women I see every day can and do wear same exact style and look great.
And if you are talking about the royals, Catherine and Letizia come to mind. They both can wear same style, easily.
As to the dress itself, I like the top part and the colour, but not the print, too busy and not the bottom, too puffy.

You are right, women do wear such a style everyday, and some look great. What I meant to convey is that you have to have a "boyish" figure, otherwise known as very slim hips to look well in that cut. Many women do, but most women don't have slim hips.

In that case, I agree

A very nice, elegant look with a black top and skirt for Mary in Sydney today, October 25:

Day 2 outfit is really pretty but I find it too dressy for a daytime event. It would've been the perfect choice for a late afternoon/evening event.

Mary is as usual coiffed to perfection. Love both outfits so far. Looks like she has some new jewels. Diamond snake ring? Maybe borrowed for state visit. Think we'll see a gown?

I like both dresses, Mary looks good in them. However my favourite is the Day 1 dress, I thought it looked fresh and summery.

Just love the black outfit, don't think it is too dressy for day. The rolled collar, cute set in waist and belt, and mixture of textures. Also, she has found the skirt length that really flatters her legs, bravo! Oh earrings and hairdo make the outfit.
Like the opera outfit too. The shoes are the crowning touch and add interest to what could be a too "prissy" look. The camera angles and lighting are a little unflattering. Waiting for better pictures.

I agree that the coat makes Mary look big. I like the dress as it's pretty and feminine, but those shoes are horrid. Not Mary's style at all.
