Do you know that, reigning Emperor and Empresses wear "closed crowns", whereas, reigning Kings and Queens where "open crowns". This is because, Emperor and Empresses are higher in status than Kings and Queens. Their children are Imperial Highnesses and Royal Highnesses respectively.

Thank You

Thanks everyone for all the great photos!! Especial thanks to Real Gabo for the crowns I thought I'd never see, like Hannover and Wurtemberg

I read in Taborelli's book (not sure how accurate this is) that the Grimaldi/Monaco regalia was stolen many, many years ago. It was decided to not replace it.
Maybe one day....
Monaco needs someone like Q.Marie of Roumania, with a flair for the dramatic!

More Regalia (no pics)

Then there's the Crown of St Stephen, and the crown that Empress Zita wore at the coronation of Emperor Karl (and herself) as King and Queen of Hungary in 1916.

And there is the Swedish Regalia, various crowns, including the crowns of the Royal Princes.

The Bavarian King's Crown

The crown of the King of Tonga

The crowns of the Kings of Thailand

The silver-gilt "symbolic" crown of the Kings of Spain

The jewelled helmet of the Kings of Nepal (and possibly Bhutan)

The Imperial Crown of Brazil

The crowns of the Sultans of Malaysia

and of course Iran.

Can anyone think of any more?

Here's some of the crowns mentioned:

Regalia of The Netherlands
--------------------------
From: www.koninklijkhuis.nl
The crown symbolises the sovereignty of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the dignity of its head of state. As the accession ceremony is not a coronation but an investiture, the crown is never placed on the monarch's head. The orb represents the territory over which the monarch rules, namely the Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. The sceptre and the sword of state stand for the sovereign's authority and power respectively. The regalia were made in 1840 by craftsmen commissioned by William II.
