Not living in Copenhagen myself, so Zealanders please correct me.
The distance between Alexandra and Joachim is a comfortable bicycle ride.
Depending on the traffic I'd guess the distance between Amalienborg and Emiliekildevej (J&M's home) is 30-45 minutes by car.
The distance to the boarding school is about one hour by car, again depending on the traffic.
It will indeed be intesting to see what will happen to the apartment at Amalienborg. My guess is that they may keep it for a while, as a place to crash after late night events.
Otherwise I think Christian is eventually going to take over, most likely he will share the apartment with one of his siblings.
But that's some ten years from now.
ADDED: The residence of the American ambassador is located close to Emiliekildevej, so security in the neighborhood is high as it is!
Shouldn't we try and agree on a name for J&M's home? To keep it simple. How about Villa Joachim?

Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix can easily bicycle between Villa AM and Villa JM. It will take them about 20-30 minutes depending on how fast they ride :)

More like 60-75 minutes, but then again it´s Prince Joachim, who´s behind the wheel, so perhaps more likely 30-45 minutes

I think Prince Joachim and Princess Marie will keep their appartment at the palace as a pied-à-terre. It comes handy when there is a major event at the palace, that then the couple can retreat inside (for an example to change clothes, to stay overnight after an evening function, etc.).

It wouldn´t take them long to drive home from Amalienborg. With no traffic it´s a 15 minute drive

That is true but without an own appartment inside the palace, they are "guest", so to say. To me it looks very convenient to have an own location inside the palace.

Muhler, I don't know if I am right !
Prince Joachim inherited Schackenberg from a rich Danish Nobleman it was his own !.
He sells now his heritage to Denmark and will have a lot of money without doing anything.

Joachim inherited Schackenborg because there were no willing heirs left in the Schack family to take over. (Presumably they knew how neglected the manor was). As I understand it Schackenborg was essentially a fief, so it would revert to the crown and that was in this case Joachim, who got the manor as his personal property.
The DRF had to spend a lot of money on the manor just to prevent it from falling apart, so it has very much been an uphill struggle for Joachim.
Why he chose to sell and why he chose to sell now, we can only speculate.
The financial result for Joachim has certainly been very good indeed! Should Joachim decide to sell the remaining land in Southern Jutland, he, our Marie and his four children, with spouses, will be able to live a very comfortable middleclass life for the rest of their lives, without working.
The investors in Scackenborg have also benefitted a lot.
Thanks for the insider traffic knowledge, FasterB.
Staten sælger ud: Bliv nabo til Amalienborg - Ejendomme | www.business.dk
The state is selling some property that is a part of "the Amalienborg complex". That means buildings next to Amalienborg.
Quite a number of building next to Amalienborg belongs to the state, some of the are offices, but there are also a number of apartments which are used by state employees, or retired state employees, including present of formers employees at the court.
Due to the very good location these buildings must be expected to fetch a very high price!
The state owns a large number of buildings in very attractive locations, like police stations, offices and so on and sometimes such buildings are sold and that's what happens here.

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #33, 2014.
Written by Henrik Salling.
We get some more details about Villa Joachim.
The distance between Villa Joachim and Villa Alexandra is five kilometres.
The distance to Amalienborg is eleven kilometres.
Among those who live in the nieghborhood is the wealthy business man, Fritz Schur, who has become of close friend of PH in particular and who is looking after the Regent Couple's private investments. (Something the late McKinney Møller did).
Mary's hairdresser, Søren Hedegaard and his husband, Preben Christensen, also live nearby.
(I can add that it is said that people from Klampenborg where Villa Joachim is located, hardly open their mouths when speaking, lest a golf ball should end up in their mouths...).
The living space in the villa is some 344 square meters on three floors and additional 183 square meters of cellar, with cinema and gunroom. (*)
The ground floor consist of a hall, two living rooms and a suite with a fireplace and a dining room connected to the kitchen.
There are several bedrooms on the upper floors.
The villas was build in 1919 and is located in a garden of 2.500 square meters.
- The living space will however be smaller than at Schackenborg, some 1.000 Square meters less.
Joachim and our Marie are expected to take over the house by 1. October.
(*) I think the journalist Henrik Salling has misunderstood what a gunroom is. It is not a room to store weapons. But a room for gentlemen where hunting weapons and hunting trophys are displayed on the walls.
Beforehand the ladies withdrew to a salon, while the gentlemen shared a drink, or many, in the gunroom and played some billard.

Is that due to snobbery or are they just really really shy?

Well, let me put it like this: People born and bred in Klampenborg tend to substitute the letter o with a, thus golf is pronounced galf in that area.
If you live in Klampenborg money is no problem, except when the bank calls to ask you to withdraw some because they can't close their vaults...

You nailed it, Muhler And if you can´t afford to live in Klampenborg then you choose Gentofte or Hellerup

Riiight, so you can hear them from miles away and not a lot of humility then! sounds like 101 Reykjavík which is our version of Klampenborg I guess, but they're more of a "rich hippies" type

Let me put it in another way: One's butler lives in Hellerup or Gentofte.
There are other neighborhoods like that in other parts of DK of course (and Reykjavik ). In Aarhus there is Strandmarksvej. One does not live on Strandmarksvej if one has only got two boats - one simply wouldn't fit in...

TV2 Finance has had a look at the public records regarding the purchase of Joachim and our Marie's new house: Joachim køber palæet kontant: Smider 34,5 millioner - TV 2 Finans
The price was 34.5 million DKK which in Danish context is very expensive indeed!
And paid in cash and that means he owes nothing on the house.
34.5 million DKK = 4.6 million € = 5.7 million $ = 3.6 million £
The court has declined to comment on the private economy of J&M.
