It's a pity the house was demolished but Carlton House Terrace which replaced it is a fine piece of town planning & looks suitably grand from The Mall.

When George IV became king in 1820 he now began the renovations of Buckingham House and no longer need Carlton House its fate was sealed!

I agree it does look really grand and survived to this day.

Bridewell Palace in London was built as a residence for King Henry VIII. He used it as a royal residence from 1515 to 1523. Bridewell was the first royal palace not to have a great hall.

“Connorville” is another Tasmanian property with Royal connections.

Upthread I’ve posted photos I took of the Royal train that is sitting in a shed in the state, and written about Mona Vale and it’s Royal guests.

This property, Connorville, a private home, had the distinction of having the Royal Standard fly over it while The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh stayed.

Roads were improved and additions were added to the building for the one night stop-over of the Royal entourage.

Even a building was erected to enable communication with Buckingham Palace.

Prince Philip had stayed at the property previously, for a week during WWll when on leave from the Navy, invited by nieces of the owner.

The article below has more details and photos, including a photo of Her Majesty’s bedroom.

The YouTube has some footage at around the 41 minute mark.

Fascinating views of the SS Gothic! Quite a lot bigger than Britannia.

Durham House in London, England is where Lady Jane Grey and Lord Guildford Dudley were married on May 25, 1553.

Durham House was the original London lodging of the Bishop of Durham. It must have been very impressive in its day though illustrations of the house show a rather strange architectural style. The last ruins were still around until the Adam brothers designed and built the Adelphi Terrace on the site in 1820/21.

Henry VIII forced the Bishop of Durham in 1536 to exchange it for less attractive Coldharbour, the house was restored to Bishop of Durham under James I.
