That is pretty!! I love the second picture with the church in the background--such a pretty setting!

That would be Luckington Court in the Cotswolds. If they have purchased it, it would need a fair amount spent on it from the photographs I have seen of the interiors. It’s very dated and has been vacant for a while I believe.

Thanks. Why is it called the Pride and Prejudice house?

An adaptation of the Jane Austen book was filmed there. It’s very picturesque.

'Rightmove' or 'Country Life' .. Rightmove is a property website covering all prices and areas, so you'd need to narrow down those areas in order not to be overwhelmed with options. ie Norfolk, up to 8 bedrooms, max price £7million.

Country Life is THE magazine and [now website] for Country Houses, less unsuitable houses, obv, but [once again] narrowing location, size ans maximum price will make it easier...

Enjoy 'the property porn' !

It doesn't make sense to me that they would have been buying a property already tbh. Not when they're still with only the two of them. The cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace will do just fine for now.

I don't think that they'll be buying a country property. Not anytime soon. Not when they can lease an appropriate one from the Crown or the Duchy of Cornwall.

Frogmore ... that might be a Grade I-listed headache. I think they would be limited to living on the upper floors.

Okay. Enough negatives so not a go. Remains my favorite, though.

Forest Lodge, which isn't too far from the Garden House, has undergone structural improvements and might be a candidate. Securing it wouldn't be too hard and it's of a pedigree and size befitting an eventual King's second son. It was briefly considered for Fergie when she was looking for accommodation, but it didn't work out.

I like the sound of Forest Lodge. :flowers: Does anyone have pictures? I couldn't find any on-line never mind the actual place.

I read somewhere yesterday in reference to Harry and Meghan (I think on Twitter) that the "Pride and Prejudice" house had gone off the market so they possibly could have bought that. It was just speculation, but what house would this tweet have been referring to? Also, is there anyplace to go online and look at possible houses they could buy? We are already planning her dress and tiara, so I say let's plan their house purchase too.

You bet! :flowers: We can have it all sorted for them by May. ;)

But that hasn't been the case for every other royal couple, bar William and Catherine who were shifting about because of William's career. Anne, Andrew and (I think) Edward got new places at their marriage. I believe Charles actually got Highgrove just before his marriage and was working on the decorating and updates leading up to the marriage. So why would Harry and Meghan not have their own place by their wedding, just the way other royal couples have had?
Just wondering. :flowers:

I bet they are house hunting by the end of next year!

Thank you so much!!! :flowers:
ETA: I just took a peek at some in Norfolk where William and Kate's Anmer Hall is. Oh my, there are some gorgeous mansions!!! When I have picked them out the perfect house, I will post :)

ETA again: OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! These houses are AMAZING!!! I am looking at rightmove and my breath is just taken away. I love that there are pictures of the inside.

Oh you must watch that show, preferably the Colin Firth version.

LaRae

I definitely will. I loved that book when I read it and Colin Firth was great in "The King's Speech".

Oh and another must see (if you haven't) Sense and Sensibility with Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Kate Winslet, Hugh Laurie ..just to name a few of the excellent actors in it!

Would Prince Harry be able to purchase a manor house? If YES, where is the best location?

Thank you. I will add that to my list.

I have found Harry and Meghan a country house: Barsham Manor House. It is in Norfolk where Anmer Hall is located.

Purported to have been built in or around 1520, Barsham Manor House has played host over the last five centuries to many guests, from monarchs, knights, politicians and celebrities to latter day rock legends. Its most famous guest was undoubtedly King Henry VIII who stayed here on at least five separate occasions (never with the same wife!) whilst visiting the nearby shrine to our Lady of Walsingham and, whilst The Manor's construction has always been attributed to Sir Henry Fermor, Henry VIII once referred to it as "my small country palace in Barsham."Since the Fermors several other established English names have made their home in this grand old building during the last 500 years. Families such as The Calthorps, The Astleys and more recently The Guinness family, but in the late 1960s East Barsham Manor is rumoured to have been briefly owned by the then manager of The Bee Gees. Village anecdotes suggest that once again The Great Hall was the scene of many a party involving other famous singers and bands of that particular decade. The house was last updated in the late 1990s, whilst in the ownership of Sir John Guinness, and as one might expect with such a historical building, it would now benefit from some care and attention from its next custodian.

It does look like it needs some loving care, but it is STUNNING!!!! I'll send them a bill for my finders fee :):)

Harry himself? Highly unlikely. Yes he has a trust fund, but a manor house would most of that money. That is his source of income. He uses up his trust fund he will be living off his father.

The two options for a manor house realistically

1. Someone, likely his father, buys him one.
2. Or he rents a crown property like his Uncles.

Location wise depends on their tastes. And if they plan to use the country home as their main base (where kids are raised) or London. If their main base is country, they need to consider the schools they will send kids to. Some where close to Windsor would be ideal for schooling, as close to many of the schools the family has attended.

If they plan on mainly being in London, then either near Sandringham or High Grove seems likely (Highgrove is where all the rumored house hunting has been going on near).

Size of the home depends also on money for upkeep. Do they want the cost of a huge manor house? Edward gets around it by renting out the out buildings. He actually pays 1/3 of the rent the York girls pay on their small four bedroom apartment in London, because of his renting out buildings (he pays about 10,000 a year).

There was talk of opening up the basement (?)of KP to offices thus creating more apartments. Isn't that an option for the couple?
Besides I can see HM or even Prince Charles giving the couple a property as a wedding present

On the apartment situation, I was binging on all the catch up stuff on cable from during the week and one of the Royal Correspondents was talking about how small Nott Cot is and that when William and Kate were moving into the apartments the Gloucesters had offered to give them theirs and move into a smaller one (they live in Apartment 1) ,but that Will and Kate took 1A instead .The suggestion was that once they get married Harry and Meghan will move in there .

There was also more spec at the weekend about houses near Highgrove

I've heard about the Apartment 1 speculation before. I think Princess Michael of Kent also made a passing comment about it to the press. However, I don't know if I'd want to be THAT close to my brother and sister-in-law even if we are close. But that's just me.

One of the houses that Harry was rumored to be looking at in Cotswold right before the engagement announcement has gone off the market. Nobody knows for sure though.

It seems to be the pattern :flowers: barring the Cambridges who were outliers in that regard. Most every royal newlywed couple are gifted a house and/or an apartment. I think Charles was the only one who actually bought his own place (Highgrove), but even he had Highgrove in hand before he was married (I think Diana helped him decorate it). So given that pattern, my hunch is the couple will have (probably) a country house either upon marriage, or before. Unless they don't want one and prefer a larger KP apartment, which means they then wait for the apartment to be made ready for them.

I am personally rooting for a country home in the Cotswolds. :flowers: So pretty.

Thing is that with Charles and William, there was no need to buy them property as down the line, they will inherit estates as monarchs.

Charles actually didn't buy Highgrove either. The Duchy of Cornwall did and that estate will eventually fall to William as Duke of Cornwall when the time comes.

Not buy but have a house in hand. We know William did not need such upon marrying but he got one (Anmer) when he needed it, when the time was right. :flowers: It was arranged.

Charles actually didn't buy Highgrove either. The Duchy of Cornwall did and that estate will eventually fall to William as Duke of Cornwall when the time comes.

The detail is noted, Charles did not lay out the money himself for a house, but no matter who or what entity actually put down the money, Charles did shop around for a house and settled upon Highgrove. My point was that Charles had a country house before his marriage, and given the pattern, it seems reasonable to me that Harry and Meghan will get a house prior to their marriage, too. Just a hunch. :flowers:

P.S. Someone mentioned not wanting to be THAT close to one's brother (at KP) ;) ?. There's a truth to that, especially for Meghan. I think Meghan will want her own house 'and yard' (understatement).

I think Meghan will need that (their own house) for sanity sake. :flowers: JMO.

They will still be given bigger accommodations in London, likely in KP. They have a two bedroom cottage right now. It's won't work after they have a child. They would also need bigger space in London because they will be carrying out more duties over time and will need a London base. I believe the Queen's younger children have accommodations in London as well, just not the size of Apartment 1A.

This has been discussed at great length on another thread (prior to the engagement). :flowers: It appears that it is only the heirs (Charles and William) who have two large residences (both country and city). Harry (it seemed to be the prevailing opinion) would have either/or but not both. With a large country home he would have a small bolthole at BP (or maybe they will keep Nottingham Cottage as their London base).

I did say they aren't given large residences like 1A. However, a two bedroom with a couple of kids and nanny isn't exactly going to fit.

But I don't think the whole family stays at the London digs in this scenario. That is, if they have a large country house that becomes their base. The London digs are used solely when needed (by one or two people in that family) when there are events to be attended. Is this not the case with Anne? Andrew? Edward?

You are going to tell me Edward's family will be squeezed into a two bedroom when they are all in London for Trooping or other events? And Andrew's daughters have their own apartment that they share in St. James right now, don't they?

Hey, jacqui, I'm not telling you anything. :flowers: Ya know? I'm just saying what has been described here. That it's an either/or for Harry and his family, not both (being large).

Maybe someone else should jump in because I am out of my depth on this. ;)

The issue will be lifestyle and location, but I do think all scenarios are possible.

Edward and Sophie live just outside London. As such, any family or national event in London where their children attend can be done in a day and so no need to stay over in the Capital.

If Harry & Meghan have a house in the country that is further away from London, then they may need a base in the capital larger than Nottingham Cottage if they have children.

It just depends on how their life develops.

The problem with Luckington [the 'Pride and Prejudice' House'] is that there is a Public Road leading right up to the gates, which gives access to the Parish Church just beyond them. This would create privacy and security problems, I think.

That's cool..so she might be part of that little circle too.

Is it certain that Eugenie is at Ivy Cottage? I know there were rumours months ago that it was to be her future home but I thought that was tabloid speculation. It would be great if she is there. Harry and Eugenie have always got on well, and Meghan will too, I'm sure.
