Maybe could go as high as 2 mil if they AirBNB for Trooping of the Color. Some people have too much time on their hands.

THE builders of the Millennium Dome and Olympic Stadium are to advise the Queen on the multi-million pound refurbishment of Buckingham Palace.

Sir Robert McAlpine, the company responsible for other landmarks including the Glenfinnan Viaduct, featured in four Harry Potter films, the Dorchester Hotel and the Eden Project, has been drafted in by the Queen to assess the options for renovating her London home following reports that is in need of urgent repairs costing £150million.

If this is true then I would rather have written that they had been drafted in by the royal household and not by the the Queen, but that doesn't sound as interesting, does it!
 
I've always wondered how these intruders are able to fool the high security of BP...It's really impressive!
 
I don't think Buckingham Palace's security is what it should be. There have been far too many of these incidents over the years.
 
I don't think it's all the high security. The back garden is pretty big and surrounded by a brick wall. Can climb wall into garden. I don't know if there are sensors but the wildlife in the garden a bird or squirrel would probably set them all the time.

This worries me the most because anything could have been done by the intruder in 7 minutes. Frankly, all the walls surrounding the palace should be painted with anti-climb paint.

Anti-climb paint. That's new to me. What's that?
 
Appearantly the walls are very high and with spikes on top. Doesn't sound like a very easy climb. Stuff can always happen, but what worry me the most is the 7 minute reaction time!

Trespasser arrested at Buckingham Palace
A man has been arrested in the grounds of Buckingham Palace after climbing over a perimeter wall.

The 41-year-old was detained by police at 8.37pm on Wednesday evening after triggering an alarm within the grounds.

The Queen and Prince Philip were in residence at the Palace at the time and were informed of the incident on Thursday morning.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said the trespasser was arrested seven minutes after the perimeter alarm was sounded and was not armed.

Officers who detailed the man did not deploy their Tasers, according to the Metropolitan Police spokesman.

Her was arrested on suspicion of trespassing on a protected site and remains in custody.

Commander Adrian Usher, head of the Met's Royalty and Specialist Protection, said: "I am content that our security measures worked effectively on this occasion and at no time was any individual at risk."

While the Met insist the latest incident shows their security measures are working, there may be questions over why it took seven minutes to apprehend the intruder after the alarm was first triggered.

But Dai Davies, the former head of the Met's royal protection branch said he felt the incident showed the security systems were working well.

He said: "It would appear from what we know that things have worked well in this case and the police have responded quickly and effectively. The Buckingham Palace gardens are large at around 37 acres, so to locate and apprehend the intruder within seven minutes is very good.

"I am jolly pleased that in this case the security system as been found to be very effective. The police get stick when they get it wrong but in this instance they should be praised for acting quickly and effectively."

There are buildings built into the wall as well e.g. The Queen's Gallery and The Mews meaning that it isn't all fence around the grounds.

Its quite scary that a man with his record was able to get in and that the queen was in residence at the time,I can only imagine the current mood at the Palace security office.

That wouldn't stop them getting in via the Queen's Gallery or The Mews - which have no fences or wall or barbed wire.

If someone wants to get in then they will find a way. So long as security stops them getting to the principals then they are doing their jobs.

According to changingoftheguard.com

The Queen's Guard consists of 3 officers and 40 men, when the Sovereign is in residence, otherwise it will comprise of 3 officers and 31 men.
When Her Majesty The Queen is at home you will see four sentries at the front of Buckingham Palace. At other times there are two sentries.
