Yes i believe parliament has taken too long to decide and find the allocated funds for the renovations. But i did read an article that said they were going to wait until the queen no longer uses the palace to start renovations.

It's not as if BP doesn't pay for itself either as they rake in many millions each year, from open days. Not to mention the amount generated by tourist dollars of visitors to the capital each year. The amount was mentioned during the lead up to the wedding but i forget now how much they said.

It will be very sad if dear Prince Philip doesn't get to see the finished result.

As they are saying it will take 10 years to complete the refurbishment I really doubt that Philip will see it completed. Knowing that these things usually run over schedule it is probably that The Queen won't see the finished product either - sadly.

Thank you Cyril and thank you Bertie, especially for the link.
I remember reading about the problems renovating Frederik VIII palace at Amalienborg for Fred & Mary. Last done in 1935. They found dry rot and wet rot and all sorts of problems. Needed a new roof too.
These lovely buildings are never cheap to maintain and always run over budget with a full reno. Especially as they don't know what other problems they will encounter.
You never know they may find a secret room or stairwell as the Russians often have.
Well it has to be done.

Anyone who paid a visit to the Palace this summer might have seen the Exhibition ‘Prince and Patron’ in honour of the 70th Birthday of HRH The Prince of Wales.

Aretha Franklin Tribute at Buckingham Palace.
On my news tonight they showed the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace on Friday and The Band of the Welsh Guards playing Aretha's song R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

I thought how lovely and thoughtful. I wonder who's idea it was. And people who stopped to watch clapped after the performance.
So nice to have some touching news like that.

I think that King Edward VII spoilt Buckingham Palace and that even Queen Mary could not reverse the damage that her father-in-law had done. It had been a Romantic-era palace and King Edward messed it up.

You know, I never knew what the old Private Chapel of Buckingham Palace looked like, until now-

It was a beautiful place.

Thanks for the images. Now I am consumed with curiosity about how bright/light this room actually was. The watercolors make it look like a glorious light filled room of joy. The Getty pic, though decidedly ancient (relatively) looks gloomy to me. Old photos were tricky. Hmmm.

The watercolor is gorgeous.

Yeah, the watercolors look magnificent. Make me think that’s what the Chapel once looked like in the early reign of Queen Victoria-

Here’s a painting of what part of the chapel probably looked like in color later on- Scroll to bottom:

Buckingham Palace is set to see its biggest ever removal of priceless antiques and artwork as 3,000 @RCT artefacts are shipped out during a £369 million, ten year reservicing project. There have been no breakages so far, though, they assure me!

3,000 metres of potentially dangerous cable has already been removed as part of the refit, which palace officials insist won’t go over the their £369 million budget.

I’m also told the Queen won’t be asked to move out of her North Wing apartment at #BuckinghamPalace until 2025 - when she will be 99 - in order for the building works to be completed. But aides tell me she is very adaptable and told them: ‘Just tell me where you want me to go’.

Amusingly, Prince Philip, 97, who has taken a great interest in the refurbishment of Buckingham Palace, has told officials in charge of the work that he is in favour of a phased approach ‘as they will learn by their mistakes’. Ever practical is The Duke!

Not sure The Queen and Prince Philip will live long enough to see the finished results, but it’s nice that the media is optimistic about when the couple will have to move out. It’s really going to be finished for the next reign. I hope I’ll be around to see how it’ll all come together.

The Wessexes and Andrew will need accommodations else where during construction. There is also a large staff in residence. I don’t see bunk beds being an option.

Anne, Andrew, Edward et al will be housed down the road at St James Palace. Apparently Anne has made the move already.
