Here are some photos of yesterday's rehearsals for this year's Trooping of the Colour ceremony. One poor guardsman had health problems..

Another rehearsal for this year's Trooping of the Colour took place today, May 17. The Duke of York as Colonel of Grenadier Guards participated as well:

I stumbled across newsreel footage of the Trooping The Colour from 1939. It was amusing to see that the antics of royal children on the balcony have always stolen the show. In particular, a three-year-old Prince Edward of Kent was giving his mother and his nanny nightmares. At one point, Princess Margaret stopped her young cousin from throwing a cushion off the balcony!

Very funny. I wonder whether the Duke ever saw that bit of footage as an adult!

I did a little bit more digging, and it turns out that the 1939 Trooping the Colour was the last one before the war. That means it was the only time young Prince Edward and Princess Alexandra of Kent would have seen their father participating, as he was killed on active duty in 1942.

They were in Canada, doesn't look like Princess Elizabeth was with them.

Princess Elizabeth missed the 1939 Trooping because she was sick. And I think there was a separate birthday salute for the king while he and the queen were on their royal tour of Canada.

"these videos are funny for basically the same, apart from the kids/planes, nothing exciting happens when the RF is on the balcony for trooping so this is funny. In 2016 a curious Prince Philip was asking about the stool on the balcony and a very sure Queen said: for George 1/2😂"

"In 2017 Prince Philip again was curious about the stool but this time he was pointing out that there was a stool for George but it was on the other side of the balcony, of course TF is a team so they all helped to bring the stool closer to George, even The Queen 😂😂 2/2"

He's certainly looking a lot more confident than when he started practising.

It looks like building up his core strength has had a good effect on his erm . . . health.

Trooping is on next Saturday. This was the rehearsal parade not the actual parade.

He intended the rehersal. We saw him with his in laws, supporting Andrew.

We will have to wait and see next weekend if he attends the main event. I'd be surprised if he didn't.

Yeah I see no reason why he wouldn't attend. He is family now.

I wonder if we will see George and Charlotte make their carriage debuts.

Do we think we will still see the same number of carriages this year? It was getting pretty cramped with three last year. And that's with Edward and James not being there.

I read that Prince Louis will be making his first balcony appearance at 2019 Trooping the Colour. There has also been some speculation as to whether the Duchess of Sussex will make an appearance, being that she is on maternity leave. Reports in the media imply that since Kate appeared at last year's Trooping the Colour while she was still on maternity leave, that perhaps Meghan might appear this year:

https://www.townandcountrymag.com/so...ic-appearance/

I don't think Meghan typically is going to do something simply because it's what Kate did. However, if Meghan does appear, it will more than likely be out of respect and honor for the Queen's ceremonial birthday. Personally, I'd love for Meghan to not appear. Archie will be about a month old and he is Meghan's first child, whereas Louis is Kate's third child. Meghan definitely has input on the Sussex Instagram, so perhaps giving tribute to the Queen and the event on the Sussex Royal Instagram may be an alternative.

If Meghan isn't up for it, she won't be there. If she is, she will be there. It has nothing to do with Kate. And certainly Kate isn't the first one to attend Trooping while on maternity leave.
