Birth of their first child to Marquess and Marchioness of Blandford

George John Godolphin Spencer-Churchill, Marquess of Blandford (son of 12th Duke of Marlborough) and his wife Marchioness of Blandford welcome the birth of their first child, on 10th September. A daughter named, Olympia Arabella Kitty Spencer-Churchill. :flowers: ? ?

Congratulation to the Marquess and Marchioness of Blandford on being parents for the first time!!! ?

I assumed she would styled as Lady Olympia Arabella Kitty Spencer-Churchill.

Daily Mail has picked up news (in a small section), but it was published before Marquess of Blandford's instagram post with her name revealled.

Yes she will be styled Lady Olympia Spencer-Churchill. Interesting that she was born on the same day as the daugther of the Duke and Duchess of Huescar but unlike her she will not inherited the Titles of her father and grandfather.

I was delighted by this wonderful news for the Marquess and Marchiones! Little Lady Olympia really is a beautiful little girl - well, considering how gorgeous this couple are, no surprise!
What a beautiful name, too! ♥️

By the way, I'm new here - hoping to take part in some of the chats on this thread about the nobility, and of course on the royal threads too! So I big hi to everyone reading this!

Blenheim Palace given tempestuous shake up with Cecily Brown exhibition

"A selection of the British artist’s vibrant paintings is now on display at the historic stately home"

"The Cecily Brown exhibition at Blenheim Palace runs from 17 September until 3 January"

https://www.tatler.com/article/blenheim-palace-cecily-brown-art-exhibition

Link to Blenheim Palace's announcement/event:
https://www.blenheimpalace.com/whats-on/events/cecily-brown-art-exhibition/

It would be interesting to see Cecily Brown's contemporary artworks in a very traditional setting.

There are already some reviews from BBC and The Telegraph

Are British nobility titles recognised outside the UK? Thanks

I've seen similar in other houses. Sometimes the contrast works well & at other times it certainly doesn't. There was one some years ago at a NT property in the West Country that was to say the least somewhat jarring. Maybe the fault lies with my lack of modern art appreciation. :D

I agree. I rather like it too. I do struggle with modern art, which I'm sure says more about me than the art, but yes I've surprised myself at how much I'm drawn to it.

Oh yes:lol:.

I suppose they melted it down. There can't be much of a market for golden loos.?

"Longleat’s glamorous chatelaine has revealed that she has taken up hypnotherapy sessions"

At one point, the article stated that the Marchioness of Bath is following her father-in-law's "unconventional legacy" by "introducing some spiritual practices of her own at Longleat."

I’m surprised that major news outlets are just picking the news up, and the deadline of the auctions is tomorrow, 24 September. I really hope they extend it and maybe do a limited in-person auctioning. I’m surprised that Lady Frances is keeping a low-profile and so her brother and sister (her brother being one of the heads of Christie’s).

I read many major details from The Daily Fail, err, Mail regarding the auctions and other details about Lord Snowdon’s estate:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ss-Margaret-husband-Lord-Snowdon-auction.html

His house, 22 Launceston Place, which the Queen bought for him as part of the divorce settlement in the 1970s, was sold off to some M&S executive. I’m really saddened about this, but I’m not surprised, ehem David ehem. The family could have turned it into a museum or like a London estate where you can do tours.

Lady Frances is the one leading the current auctions, since she inherited her father’s personal “chattels”. His will was around £3.2 million. I doubt they have to pay hefty estate taxes. I’ve thought that the proceeds of the auction could likely fund her eldest child’s education. Frances’s son Rex just turned 12 this May and may likely go to Eton, similar to grandpa and his cousins. This is just a speculation. (I’’m surprised that Debrett’s/Burke’s isn’t updating a lot about the von Hofs, given Rodolphe is the grandson of Lady Elizabeth Paget, who once served the Queen Mother).

Thank you for the Town & Country link. Without the Tatler article, I would not even have known. The instagram post was published on 4th September. The article from Christie's official website was published on 7th September. I do think the actions, as you said, should be extended or have limited in-person action sessions.

I would usually take the Mail article a pinch salt (though reading the comment section is my guilty pleasure :devil:). It's very sad that a lot of Snowdon's possessions and properties have to go on sale due to financial reasons (with high death duties).

Some countries recognize foreign titles of nobility, others do not. Some place preconditions on recognition. For instance, Belgium recognizes foreign titles used by foreign citizens but does not give recognition to foreign titles claimed by Belgium citizens. Sir Salvador Moncada, the husband of Princess Esmeralda of Belgium, would have his British title recognized in Belgium (assuming that he hasn't acquired Belgian citizenship), but the princess herself would not be recognized as Lady Moncada in Belgium.

I agree that this seems unfair. To explain his prominence - Westminster's wealth derives from landholdings in Mayfair & Belgravia. Some of the most expensive real estate in the world. Leasehold & freehold are controversial topics in London.

He isn't therefore just some random billionaire.

Whether it's fair or not (which it isn't since he doesn't appear to court the press): He's young, good looking, very wealthy, very titled and is friends with the royals with a sad personal story. It's not in the slightest bit surprising the DM would pay for photos of him or that he'd be clickbait. They also do it occasionally with other aristocrats of interest.

He did also make the news by pledging millions to the NHS this year.

His father used to be quite prominent in various things, certainly here in North West England, but the current earl isn't. But the Westminsters are known as the richest family in the UK (although they actually aren't any more!), so they do attract interest.

They're also the richest members of the nobility. Indeed the only reason they shot up the ranks so quickly to become dukes was because of their colossal rentier wealth. They were not distinguished by any other achievements.

Lucan to the future: Tatler meets the Earl and Countess of Lucan at their London flat

George Bingham, 8th Earl of Lucan and Countess of Lucan spoke to Tatler at their London flat about their family life.

The article includes a photo of the Earl and Countess of Lucan with their children, Lord Bingham and Layd Daphne Bingham.

The subsidiary titles for the Earldom are Baron Lucan, Baron Bingham and Baronet 'of Castlebar'. The 8th Earl son used Lord (Baron) Bingham. Bingham is also the Earl's family surname.

All Irish titles,I wonder have they ever set foot across the Irish sea ;)

The 1st Earl of Lucan was Patrick Sarsfield a leading Irish Roman Catholic Jacobite during the Williamite War in Ireland.

British people using titles with Irish (Republic) designations strike me as quite ridiculous. And that's without examining the history behind how many people from England acquired them in the first place.

Why Walpole masterpiece Wolterton Hall is the ultimate Norfolk escape

"A Palladian Hall built by the Walpole family has been lovingly restored by its new owners, a pair of interior-design connoisseurs, who have turned it into a truly extraordinary place to stay". Sir Robert Walpole (Later 1st Earl of Orford) was generally regarded as Britain's first Prime Minister.

At the bottom of the Tatler article:
Wolterton Hall will have 12 bedrooms and 12 en-suite bathrooms, eight double height State Rooms including two luxury kitchens and opulent interiors. Available for exclusive use with the 500-acre park from March 2021. Prices from £10,000 per night, including concierge and housekeeping with a minimum of a two night stay.
The East Wing (sleeps 14), The Garden House (sleeps 6), The Treasury (sleeps 2) and other cottages are available on the estate for high-end holiday rental. For more information visit woltertonpark.co.uk

https://www.tatler.com/article/wolterton-hall-norfolk-review-high-end-holiday-rentals

Official website for Wolterton Park https://www.woltertonpark.co.uk

From the website, Wolterton Hall mainly host functions and provide accomodation. They do offer private tours, but I image it's going to be very expensive!

A very fine house. The brother of the man who built Wolterton commissioned the even most magnificent Houghton Hall, one of the great houses of England.:flowers:

Yes it is do we know who bought it from the current 10th Baron Walpole?

Peter Sheppard and Keith Day bought it from Walpole in 2026 according to the article.

Beautiful lake & grounds.

I know this post may belong in Irish Royal/Nobility/Aristocracy or celebrity threads.

Catherine FitzGerald (daughter of Desmond FitzGerald, 29th Knight of Glin) has made headlines, because her husband, Dominic West was getting intimate (kissing and holding hands) with actress Lily James at Rome.

https://www.newsweek.com/lily-james-dominic-west-affair-kissing-pictures-1538367

Tatler then releases two articles on Catherine FitzGerald and Dominic West.

Who is Dominic West's aristocratic wife, Catherine FitzGerald? | Tatler

When Tatler met Dominic West and Catherine FitzGerald at home at Glin Castle | Tatler (The original article was from 2015)

The Town & Country also have an article on Glin Castle (published on 30th January 2019): https://www.townandcountrymag.com/uk/lifestyle/homes-and-gardens/a26064854/inside-glin-castle/

Catherine FitzGerald herself is a landscape designer and gardener in Ireland and the UK. Her gardening works and landscape projects included Glin Castle (her family home), Hillsborough Castle, Lansdowne Crescent, Clarendon Park, Holland Park Avenue, Glenarm Castle and St Olav's Church.
https://www.catherinefitzgerald.co.uk/

An Ard Ri has posted some videos and website on Glin Castle on the Historic Royal Palaces and Stately Homes with Royal Connections threads (Post #255, #257 and #259)

Thank you An Ard Ri for the posts and links. :flowers:

Glin Castle in County Limerick was the seat of the Fitzgerald Knights of Glin. The Castle saw action during the Earl of Desmond Rebellions in the 16th Century, the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland and the Jacobite Wars. The Catholic Fitzgeralds backed James II in 1689 and only preserved their lands and titles by converting to the Church of Ireland in the years that followed. The last Knight of Glin died in September 2011 and had no sons and could not pass on the title ,his daughter Catherine Fitzgerald who is married to actor Dominic West runs the castle and estate.

Here are a few more photos of the last knights daughter Catherine Fitzgerald and her husband Dominic West at the Castle.

https://www.architecturaldigest.com...ountry-castle-is-straight-out-of-a-fairy-tale

Catherine was previously married to Edward Lambton, Viscount Lambton (Future Earl of Durham).

Another tour of the Castle and interview with the last Knight of Glin ,Desmond Fitzgerald and Senator David Norris.

Since Desmond FitzGerald, 29th Knight of Glin has no sons and the title cannot be passed to a daughter, the Knight of Glin title became dormant.
