State Visit from the King and Queen of Spain: July 12-14, 2017

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I believe that King Filipe's Order of the Garter is a bit different. He is what is called a Stranger Knight and I'm not sure if there is an installation for this.

Along with the 24 Knights of the Order of the Garter, there are also two orders of 'extra' knights - the Royal Knights and Ladies, which currently include Prince Andrew and Prince William, and Stranger Knights and Ladies, among them the Queen of Denmark and Harald V of Norway.

It would be nice to see Filipe and Letizia back the UK though in 2018 to attend though :D

The 30 min video of the welcome/carriage procession on the spanish royal YouTube channel (which I posted in post 416) is no longer available. Yes, I know it was a live video, but it was later added to the Regular videos (so very strange if you ask me)

Felipe's adress live here - shortly:

Live on Sky News: Felipe and Letizia to leave Clarence House for Parliament:

I caught that too...it was barely a curtsey, I suppose the effort counts though.

I fully agree! I love these deep scandinavian curtseys or the one done by Theresa May today when meeting the Queen!
I guess Camilla can´t manage to go down much deeper anymore. She´s way not that fit like her in-laws used to be at her age, or her husband!

They've arrived at the Palace of Westminster. See post 457 or 459 for live coverage of Felipe's speech. The Sky News Helicopter has followed them all the way from Clarence House.

Edit: The PM and Jeremy Corbyn is of course present for the speech.

Edit: They are walking in now.

Edit: John Bercow (the Speaker of the House of Commons) is now speaking.

Yes I do love seeing those lovely regal curtseys.

I'm surprised by the coverage, really.
I agree! With exception of US, Chinese and the Japanese/Irish state visits, I've never seen anything like this.

Edit: He is now speaking in Spanish.

It is absolutely superb coverage. Live on both the BBC and Sky now. I can't wait for the State Banquet tonight! I wasn't expecting anywhere near this level of coverage.

A second thought! His Majesty's address to parliament is very good, but awfully long!

Well, both the King of Norway as well as Queen Margrethe have been formally installed in Windsor. So a formal installation for Félipe nexr year is as good as certain!

I'm very surprised/pleased about it, and we don't see anything like this for state visits in other countries, not even in Norway/Denmark.

Marvellous speech :)

I also liked the witty Bercow and the other gentleman.

That ¡Viva el Rey! chored by the parlament was AMAZING :flowers:
Thanks, Britain

Yes, the speeches were marvelous. Very graceful speeches from the Lord Speaker and the House Speaker too.

LOVE the pictures and videos. The ladies all look lovely. So excited to see the banquet video and pictures tonight!

I'm impressed by the turn out of Windsors for this state visit. I am also impressed at how well Philip looks.

For all the coverage, not one person in my workplace today mentioned it. Media is massively over-estimating the interest in this from what I can see. We care about Wimbledon at this time of year, or the Premier League transfer market! We don't care about 2 powerless heads of state who can change nothing about the world we live in!

Felipe and Letizia could walk down Oxford Street and not be bothered because 95% of people wouldn't know who they were!

Is there a link to the text of the speech ? I haven't seen it live, but I'm not surprised King Felipe got a positive response. He is known to be one of the best educated European monarchs.
