IT IS A FRAUD&#33; CARAS magazine is as reliable as a 90-year-old with alzeimer. believe me&#33; I live in Argentina and I know how the press dealt with this topic. they don&#39;t want to talk about what is really important in this country (politics, economy, IMF, etc etc etc) so they report things like this one to distract the audience and prevent them from thinking critically. what makes me mad is that some people in Europe got the scoop and began talking about this&#33; this is hillarious. there is absolutely nothing between this girl and the prince.

I just got to thinking last night after doing some reading of old threads and when Charles becomes King, William will become the Prince of Wales (in theory-I believe that's how the line of succession of that particular title goes). Which would mean when William marry's then his wife would become the Princess of Wales, right?

So here is where my thought process hit a snag- Is it fair for Williams future wife to take on that title? Won't she forever and always be compared to Princess Diana? It doesn't seem right, when everyone seems to have the late Princess Diana up on this pedastool, and think she was the greatest person ever. It would be hard to live up to someone who the people thought was a saint (basically-I know not everyone felt that way.)

What does everyone else think about this? Should she be given that title? Or would it be smarter to resurect an older title (as there is no law that says the 2nd in line to the throne has to be titled the Prince of Wales-it's just the way it's worked in the past) and bestow that title upon William and his future wife?

Just a small point to begin - William won't be 2nd in line to the throne when Charles becomes king - he is already in that position. He will be 1st in line or the heir.

When Charles becomes king William will automatically become Duke of Cornwall and other subsidiary titles but not automatically the Prince of Wales. When the present Queen became Queen in 1952 Charles became Duke of Cornwall et. al., but not Prince of Wales. He was created Prince of Wales in 1958 (it was announced during the closing ceremony of the Empire and Commonwealth Games - as they were then called) but wasn't invested as Prince of Wales until 1969. When he was at school in Australia in 1966 he was referred to as the Prince of Wales.

It will be Charles' decision if and when William becomes Prince of Wales. Charles, in consultation with William or without that consultation, could decide not to create William Prince of Wales and therefore he would be Duke of Cornwall et. al., and his wife would therefore not have that title but would be the Duchess of Cornwall et. al. I personnally think that would be a negative move as it would raise the title to the stage where it becomes one that future kings might have trouble creating following the precedent that would be set if Charles followed this course.

In 1901, when Queen Victoria died, her son and heir Edward VII waited nearly a year before creating his son Prince of Wales because he wanted a gap in time before the title applied to someone else. It has already been 7 years since the title Princess of Wales was held. By the time William becomes Prince of Wales more years will probably have passed and many people won't really remember Diana - especially today's young people. I teach a class of 11 - 12 year olds who have no idea who she was but they think that Charles should marry Camilla and think William is drop dead gorgeous. They were too young to remember Diana but the girls think it would be great to be the future Princess of Wales by marrying William. Girls will be girls I suppose and think in fairytale marriages to handsome princes!!

Younger generations may have no clue who Diana is, but the older generations do, and if you look at Princess Diana boards all over the web, there are people who are fanatical about her and think her perfect. That was where my wonderings come in-no matter how much time passes between the death of the Princess and when/if William becomes the Prince of Wales, his wife is going to have to live up to the view people have from the last Prinncess of Wales, an unbelievably hard task considering the way Diana was able to have herself portrayed in the media (as the victim). The outpouring of grief and love that was evident at her funeral 7 years ago was because people thought her to be the Queen of Hearts, and a real Princess of the People-those titles are bound to cast a long shadow over whoever is to become the next Princess of Wales, if the title is given while there are still a large number of people who remember Diana.
