Note that King Felipe VI is also wearing the Spanish Order of the Golden Fleece on his necklace. Curiously, during the dinner procession, the guests are walking past a picture of Queen Victoria with Prince Albert and their children where Prince Albert, I think, is also wearing the sash of the Garter and the Golden Fleece, but his Golden Fleece necklace insignia is the bigger version, similar to the one King Felipe VI wears in Spain during state dinners. You can see an enlarged version of the picture by clicking on this link .
Back on Prince Albert's days, there was an investiture ceremony for knights of the Golden Fleece too. Prince Albert was invested by proxy in England by the Duke of Wellington, who was the first Protestant to be inducted into the order and served as a representative of the Spanish regency at the time. The Royal Collection's website has an account of Queen Victoria's memories of the ceremony.

All the golden Toisons that are delivered must be returned to the death of the person who was honored with that distinction. Is that of Prince Albert one of those that were not returned to Spain? If so, very bad, because all the necklaces must return since they are property of the Spanish crown

Sometimes Knights ordered their own personal collar at a gold smith. Then it is theirs, and not from the Chancellery of the Order.

@alexandropress
King Felipe and Queen Letizia will spend the night at Windsor Castle invited by Queen Elizabeth II, who tomorrow will impose on King Felipe the Order of the Garter.

It is mentioned in the media. This morning news-shows all had "the news" that today the King and Queen are at Windsor Castle, but it is no real news: the King already has the Garter, of course. The King will be the 13th Orange to be appointed in the Order of the Garter. Since Prince Maurits in 1612, all heads of the dynasty have been bestowed the Garter, with exception of King Willem II (which had to do with the painful broken engagement with Princess Charlotte of Wales who married, of all possible people, with Leopold, who would become the first King of the "rebellious" Belgians).

Could anyone post links for channels on which the procession can be watched, for UK, US and other Nations...?
I don't think the BBC or Sky will have specific dedicated coverage, but their news channels will mention it, and show 'clips' 'en passant'..

Look forward to pictures from the Garter parade. I am sure they had a fantastic dinner at Windsor last night with HM, C&C, W&C, E&S, possibly Harry, W-A & Max, Felipe & Leitizia and others.

Today King Willem-Alexander is installed in the British Order of the Garter. In the family museum of the Royal House Archive ( ) is the order garb of King Willem I. The garment was worn in 1814 during his installation.

My guess is that the Investiture should be taking place right now. The lunch follows and then everyone put back on their Garter vestments and prepare for the procession.

Re: Kind Felipe: Do the men doff their Order hats indoors? Or was this a choice? Not that it matters. It would equally be HM choice in case she has hat head and no chance to make adjustments before this photo was taken.

The photo is of Queen Letizia, not of Queen Maxima. Or maybe are you talking about a different photo ?
