The iconoclasts did terrible damage all over England which is why the survivors at Geddington & Hardingstone are so remarkable. You can certainly see the difference in the stonework between them & the Victorian cross at say Charing Cross. The Victorian work is admirable but in no way competes in quality with the originals.

The destruction of images, objects and sacred buildings has a long history.
A very interesting read with much topical cultural relevance. The destruction at Cheapside happened during the Civil War of course. Charles had fled London the year before. Politics & religion, a noxious brew at any time.
This 14th century statue of St Margaret at St Andrew's Church, Fingringhoe, Essex was a little luckier but shows the fury of the Puritan iconoclasm.

1373 death of Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Hereford. He was the father of Mary de Bohun, wife of Henry IV of England. He was maternal grandfather of Henry V. On the death of her father, Mary was coheiress with her sister Eleanor.
His estates were quite large. His eldest daughter Eleanor was married at the time of his death to Thomas of Woodstock, youngest son of Edward III. Thomas wanted to keep the entire of his father in laws estate and tried to force Mary to become a nun. Thomas' older brother John of Gaunt stepped in, plotting with Mary's aunt, and took the girl from his brothers custody. He married Mary to his own heir the future Henry IV.
