Catherine de France died aged 35 at Bermondsey Abbey outside London but was later buried at the old Lady chapel Westminster Abbey .The Queen has no tomb just a Victorian Memorial marks the site of her burial, her coffin was also repaired by order of Queen Victoria as queen Catherine's mummified corpse had become somewhat of ghoulish attraction,Samuel Pepys, the famous diarist, saw the mummified remains in 1669 and records how he was allowed to kiss the queen!

The iconoclasts did terrible damage all over England which is why the survivors at Geddington & Hardingstone are so remarkable. You can certainly see the difference in the stonework between them & the Victorian cross at say Charing Cross. The Victorian work is admirable but in no way competes in quality with the originals.

I found this article on the Puritans destruction of Cheapside Cross in 1643

The destruction of images, objects and sacred buildings has a long history.

On this day, December 6, 1156 ~ Birth of Matilda of England, Duchess of Saxony and Bavaria, the daughter of King Henry II

On this day, January 6, 1367 ~ Birth of King Richard II

On this day, January 6, 1540 ~ The wedding of King Henry VIII and Anne of Cleves at the Palace of Placentia

A very interesting read with much topical cultural relevance. The destruction at Cheapside happened during the Civil War of course. Charles had fled London the year before. Politics & religion, a noxious brew at any time.

This 14th century statue of St Margaret at St Andrew's Church, Fingringhoe, Essex was a little luckier but shows the fury of the Puritan iconoclasm.

1547- Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey is found guilty of treason (he would be executed on the 19th). He was the eldest son and heir of the Duke of Norfolk. Through his father, he was the cousin of both Anne Boelyn and Katherine Howard. He was the last person to be executed by Henry VIII. He was found guilty of treason for quartering his arms, and both he and his father were arrested. His father survived, as the king died the day before he was to be beheaded. Henry was also the brother of Mary Fitzroy, who held the distinction of Henry VIII's only daughter in law, the widow of Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Richmond (his only legimitized bastard). Mary, after falling out with her brother who suggested she seduce the king, testified against him in court.

More recent history, it is the 3rd anniversary of the death of Antony Armstrong-Jones, Earl Snowdon.

1476 both a death and birth. Anne of York, sister of Edward IV and Richard III dies from complications following the birth of her daughter. Anne of York had two daughters named Anne by two husbands. Her first husband the Duke of Exeter fought against the Yorks in the war of the roses abd went into exile with Margaret if Anjou. His lands were attained and given to his wife. His daughter died childless.

1373 death of Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Hereford. He was the father of Mary de Bohun, wife of Henry IV of England. He was maternal grandfather of Henry V. On the death of her father, Mary was coheiress with her sister Eleanor.

His estates were quite large. His eldest daughter Eleanor was married at the time of his death to Thomas of Woodstock, youngest son of Edward III. Thomas wanted to keep the entire of his father in laws estate and tried to force Mary to become a nun. Thomas' older brother John of Gaunt stepped in, plotting with Mary's aunt, and took the girl from his brothers custody. He married Mary to his own heir the future Henry IV.
