30th of May 1472 : Death of Jacquetta of Luxembourg ,dowager Duchess of Bedford and Countess Rivers .

Jacquetta of Luxembourg was the mother of Elizabeth Woodville and the grandmother of Elizabeth of York.The duchess stood trial on charges of witchcraft of which she was exonerated.
Neither the place of her death nor her place of burial is known.

Isabella had fled to Fontevrault Abbey in 1244 having faced the wrath of her cousin Blanche de Castile mother of Louis IX and Regent of France.Isabelle had instigated a failed rebellion against the French Crown .At the abbey Isabella died but was not buried at the Plantagenet family vault but outside in the church yard and here here remains lay until her son Henry III had them moved inside in 1254 and had a splendid tomb commissioned for his mother which thankfully has survived.

Fontevraud Abbey was suppressed and the nuns were evicted in October 1792 and in January 1793 it was ransacked and pillaged by mobs who broke open the vaults and bones were scattered or dumped in the nearby river.Coats of arms and monuments were smashed but miraculously 4 of the 6 Plantagenet tombs were salvaged and hidden.

His mother Marguerite de France gave birth early and was on her way to Cawood which was owned by the Archbishop of York.

2nd of June 1572 : Execution of Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk.

Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk was a cousin of Elizabeth I through her grandmother Lady Elizabeth Howard.
The Duke plotted in 1571 to free and marry Mary, Queen of Scots and was imprisoned and put on trial in January 1572.
The Duke was executed on Tower Hill at the Tower of London on June 2n.
His remains are buried in the vault of the Church of St Peter ad Vincula.

Edward the Black Prince ,Prince of Wales and of Aquitaine and
Duke of Cornwall was 45 at the time of his death and was buried in Canterbury Cathedral on the 29th of September.
His Tomb and burial have been preserved.

His widow Joan of Kent outlived him and died in 1385 but was buried at Greyfriars in Stamford which was dissolved in 1538 and destroyed.

James ,Duke of Cornwall was the son of James II by his second wife Maria of Modena.
At the age of 6 months he was smuggled out of England with his mother where they went into exile in France.

June 11th,1560 : Death of Marie de Guise , queen Regent of Scotland.


Marie de Guise was the widow of James V and mother of Mary Queen of Scots whom she had been ruling Scotland for as queen Regent.
Marie who had become very ill in early June with dropsy died at Edinburgh Castle and her remains lay in a coffin at St Margaret's Chapel at the castle.
In March 1561 her coffin was taken to France and buried at L'Abbaye royale de Saint-Pierre-les-Dames de Reims which survived until 1793 when it was destroyed during the French Revolution.

The new queen was not crowned and refused to take part in the a Protestant ceremony but did watch it from behind a screen at the Abbey.
The queen brought with her from France a Scottish Roman Catholic Priest who became her court chaplain,Robert Phillip.

The Duke went onto marry Jacquette de Luxembourg a year later in 1433.

The Baptism of James VI was celebrated at Stirling Castle in December 1566 . Mary queen of Scots was said to have based the celebrations on the Bayonne celebrations hosted by Catherine de Médicis in honour of the Duke of Alba in 1565.

In those days, due to high infant mortality, baptism were performed soon after birth.

Possibly the aftermath of the murder of Sir David Rizzio and then queen Mary fell ill after that.
The Prince was baptized by the Archbishop of St Andrews on the 17th of December 1566 in a Roman Catholic ceremony.

But David Rizzio was murdered when the Queen was six months pregnant with James, so nine months already passed.

The Prince was baptized by the Archbishop of St Andrews on the 17th of December 1566 in a Roman Catholic ceremony.

However he was later raised as a Protestant.

Joan had many suitors ,there were plans to marry the Princess to Philippe II of France and later Hugh X de Lusignan, Count of Angoulême.
In the end Joan was married off to Alexander II of Scotland but the marriage was childless and the queen lived under the thumb of her mother in law Ermengarde de Beaumont.
The couple later became estranged and Joan returned to England and died at Tarrant Abbey in Dorset.
