There were many potential brides being proposed prior to Isabelle de France ,at one stage Margaret of Norway was being put forward but the Princess died in 1290 .

Next was Philippa de Flandres ,daughter of Guy de Dampierre but that was later dropped in favour of a French alliance.

1290- death of Dervoguilla of Galloway. Dervoguilla was the mother of John Balliol who was king of Scotland for four years after the death of the Maid of Norway. John claimed the throne through his mother. Dervoguilla was the maternal great-granddaughter of David I of Scotland. Her grandfather who was Earl of Huntington was brother of Malcolm IV and William I. On the death of her elder sons, John inherited his mothers claim.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derv...la_of_Galloway

Her father had no male heirs and by Gaeoic custom she inherited with her sisters.

She is actually ancestress of two of the prominent families in the war for Scottish succession. Her son of course. And her daughter Eleanor married John Comyn. John Comyn and his family were a driving force behind his brother in law coming to the throne. They had their own claim to the throne as descended from Duncan III. Eleanor's son John III was guardian of Scotland after Wallace, but was stabbed to death by Robert the Bruce, who he was a contender for the throne against. John III was married to Joan de Valence, a niece of Henry III. Joan's father and Henry were half brothers, her father William was the son of Isabella of Angeloume from her second marriage. Therefore was half cousin to Edward I.

Dervoguilla of Galloway was buried alongside her husband at the Cistercian Sweetheart Abbey, which she founded in his memory. The abbey was suppressed in the 1560's fragments of the tomb survive among the abbey ruins.

January 29

-1856 Queen Victoria signs papers that established the Victoria Cross medal. It was issued first to recognize the British soldiers who showed valor in the Crimean war.

1820- death of George III of GB. He died six days after the death of Edward, Duke of Kent (Victoria's father). His son Frederick, Duke of York was at his bed side when he died. George IV had been serving as regent since 1811. By 1814 when he was named King of Hannover he was blind, going deaf and suffering dementia so badly he didn't even understand, nor when his wife died in 1818. Much of his illness is said to have been triggered at the start from the stress over the death of his beloved daughter Amelia.

January 30 1649 the execution of Charles I for high treason. 12 years later on the same date there would be a ritual execution of Oliver Crimwell who has ordered his execution. Cromwell had been dead for two years.

Though Edward was King and had been crowned real power lay in the hands of his powerful mother,Isabella de France (Louve de France) and her lover Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl of March.

Sadly Katherine Tudor only lived a couple of days and was buried along her siblings Edward and Elizabeth Tudor at the north side of the Chapel of St. Edward the Confessor in Westminster Abbey.

The Wedding took place at Westminster Abbey, though Anne did not live long enough to become Countess of Surrey or Duchess of Norfolk and died in November 1511 aged 36.
