Interesting change in the CC.

Up until the 5th December the Prince and Princess of Wales were listed under Kensington Palace.

On the 6th December they were listed under St James's Palace.

Those who are normally listed under St James's Palace are those who don't live at KP.

BP/Windsor/Sandringham/Holyrood/Balmoral - Charles and Camilla (and QEII before that)

KP - the Wales and Glouceste's until yesterday

St James's - now the Wales, Wessex's, Princess Royal and the Kent's.

I wonder if this means that William and Catherine's 'office' is now at St James's rather than at KP.

That is very interesting indeed. We’ll have to see if it was a deliberate change or an error of some type, but maybe it means an announcement about their future living plans are in the works.

I think their future living plans are quite clear - Adelaide House for day to day school terms and Anmer for holidays with Balmoral for a week or so in summer.

It seems clear to me that they aren't going to be having a home in London until William becomes King. I can still see Charles asking them to move into Windsor Castle in the next couple of years while he will continue to use CH and Highgrove.

There were no official engagements between the 19th and 25th December so no update needed this week.

I am working on an annual report on each royal which will include combined totals for those people's whose title changed during the year.

I will put it up starting on the 2nd January, after ensuring no further engagements this coming week.

If a working member of the BRF announced that they wanted to take an extended break, say a year off royal duties would this be allowed by the firm and/or accepted by the public? For example, if Princess Anne said she wanted to spend a year enjoying time with her family and travelling, or if the Duke of Kent wanted a year relaxing?

Yes of course it would be allowed. We even saw that a few years back when a couple were given a year to be sure. We also have had a number of royals take years to become working royals.

The family won't force anyone into being a working royal until they are ready e.g. William was 35, Charles 2, Anne 29, Harry 31, Andrew 42, Edward 38, The Duke of Gloucester 30 (but that was because his older brother died and his father was incapacitated and his older brother didn't do all that much as a working royal himself), The Duke of Kent was also in his 40s and Prince Michael of Kent never became a working royal.

Thank you for the information Iluvbertie, but could you please clarify when Charles became a working royal. Was he 22 or 32?

He didn't become a full-time working royal until he left the military in 1977, for the Queen's Silver Jubilee year so he was 28. After he finished uni he served in the RAF and Navy and spent a large part of his time in the navy at sea.

Thank you for the reply and for creating this extensive tally of BRF engagements year after year. :flowers:

Princess Alexandra took a break from duties when she was ill, and of course Katherine Kent stepped back from duties when she was ill.
I don't see anyone having a problem with it at all so long as in the "time off" the royal doesn't do anything that would make it difficult to step back into royal duties, e.g. making commercial deals etc. Going to spend time with family, take a break in private would certainly mean they could step back in when they wanted to.

Not at all undermining Iluvbertie's work but in case its of interest as well here is a link to article with Tim O'Donovan's annual breakdown from The Times

https://archive.ph/AKaaj

King Charles 497
Princess Royal 474
Countess of Wessex 280
Earl of Wessex 276
Queen Consort 194
Prince of Wales 190
Duke of Gloucester 183
Princess of Wales 138
Queen Elizabeth 120
Duchess of Gloucester 110
Duke of Kent 91
Princess Alexandra 48

My analysis - and yes I know my figures differ somewhat to Mr O'Donovan's. People are free to assume his are the ones that matter and mine are made up, which I know many people think ... that somehow I get them out of my head. I don't. I started doing this to help deal with the severe depression I was suffering after the death of my father and I wanted to see if I was as accurate as Mr O'Donovan. I have always been slightly higher and I include all HRHs and spouses while he doesn't e.g. he has Harry, Meghan and Andrew on 0 when they were clearly mentioned in the CC. I only count engagements listed in the CC. He obviously uses a different CC to me, which I doubt as we both use The Times, or doesn't count things I do. In the following posts I will be posting my total for the year for each royal with a breakdown of what they have done.

If there is a heading missing on a royal that means there was no engagement of that type for that royal e.g. only two will have an engagement as a 'Counsellor of State'.

I also have a breakdown of the engagements done by those who changed titles during the year so a before and after comparison can be done if someone wants to do that.

Just an explanation of how I count:

16 December 2022
Buckingham Palace
The King this morning visited Community Security Trust, Shield House, 6 Harmony Way, London NW4, and was received by His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London (Sir Kenneth Olisa), the Chairman (Mr. Gerald Ronson) and Mr. Mark Gardner (Chief Executive).

His Majesty, escorted by the Chief Executive, joined a Reception with trustees, volunteers and police officers and viewed a demonstration of equipment and private security, before receiving a briefing in the National Security Control Centre, attending an Anti-Hate Crime Meeting and meeting members of staff and researchers.

The King this afternoon visited JW3 Community Centre, 341-351 Finchley Road, London NW3, and was received by Ms. Roxane Zand (Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London), the Life President (Dame Vivian Duffield) and the Chairman (Mr. Marc Nohr).

His Majesty, escorted by Mr. Raymond Simonson (Chief Executive), met students from the Gateways Programme, visited the Kitchen and met refugees, volunteers and members of staff preparing meals for charity, before meeting food bank volunteers and joining a pre-Chanukah Reception for Holocaust Survivors.

This was the entry for Charles III on 16th December. To me he carried out 2 engagements on that day - the two visits but under 'types of engagements' there will be more detail that will include those in italics which is why the total engagements and the number under types of engagements don't add up.
