Weekly Update to 2nd April, 2020

Another slow week with only meetings etc via either phone links or video links.

The good news was about Charles recovering from COVID 19 although Camilla is still in isolation based on the UK protocols. Camilla’s ex-husband has been diagnosed with the virus now.

The FE on the British monarchy website has three engagements listed from now to the end of the year but at least one of those I don’t think will happen as it involves the Duke of Gloucester attending an event on the 23rd April. As he is over 70, he will still be in isolation at that time. Anne has an IOC meeting listed for14th May and the Queen has the Garden Party at Holyrood still in the diary for July. I doubt that either of those events will occur as scheduled although Anne’s could be done via a video conference. All others in the FE are ‘WILL NOT NOW ATTEND’ or have been removed.

I wonder if someone can help?

I have a new computer - the old one died but I didn't have the name of the source I use for the CC other than the British monarchy website saved or a link.

Someone on here gave me the link so I was wondering if someone could give it to me again. It has the record from 2010 and has missing days from the British monarchy site so I would really love to have it again.

Thanks in advance.

It was called something like 'The Royal Record' but when I search for that all I get is a twitter account.

No - that one doesn't seem to have anything after 2015.

The one I was using had the CC from 2010 to at least the 3rd April, 2020 (and probably has updated since then).

Thank you to Princess Larissa who gave me the link.

The site is https://theroyalrecord.wordpress.com/ so I will always have it on here as well as saved in a word document at home (which is now on a separate disk).

Weekly Update to 9th April, 2020

Another slow week with only meetings etc via either phone links or video links.

The Queen didn’t have an audience with the PM due to the fact he was in ICU and he didn’t hand over all the duties of PM to Dominic Raab. Now he is out of ICU I wonder if he will have a phone audience next week or whether that will have to wait until he is fully recovered – in a month or so’s time.

The good news is that Camilla is also now out of self-isolation, just in time for the 15th wedding anniversary of the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

Weekly Update to 16th April, 2020

Another slow week with only meetings etc via either phone links or video links.

Sophie was seen out helping pack things for those in need but that didn’t make it to the CC. Andrew was also seen doing similar things but also not in the CC. Interestingly Sophie was praised while Andrew was condemned and yet both were doing the same thing … packing/delivering supplies for those in need.

William, followed Charles’ lead, and opened the second Nightingale Hospital via video link. I am sure both men can’t wait for the day they get to go and close both those hospitals in person … as that will mean the crisis is over and life is returning to a great degree of normalcy.

Of course we missed seeing the family gather for the Easter Service at St George’s this year – with the usual comments about the way different members interact and what they wear. We also didn’t get the chance for people to criticise Charles and Camilla for not attending, despite the fact that they always go to Scotland for Easter but some people just never seem to get that message.

Weekly Update to 23rd April, 2020

Another slow week with only meetings etc via either phone links or video links.

The highlights of this past week surely were The Queen and Louis’ birthdays with those lovely videos and photos that were released.

The Duke of Kent, who had cancelled a number of visits this week, carried out his first meeting via phone link, which is the standard means of engagements now.

I found it interesting that when both Charles and William opened the NHS Nightingale Hospitals it was included in the CC but when Camilla opened one it wasn’t, and nor was Charles’ opening of the hospital in Wales.

NOTE: When lock down is lifted in the UK and royals return to a more normal roster of duties I will include all the information that I normally do. That may not be this year, of course but hopefully by the end of the summer a more normal life will return to the UK. I am treating this a bit like the summer recess time when I don't put up screeds of information that hasn't changed e.g. the overseas visits.

Weekly Update to 7th May, 2020

Another slow week with only meetings etc via either phone links or video links.

It has been interesting to see the different ways a video call or a phone call has been described – as you will see in the ‘types of engagements’. Someone is trying to keep things interesting at BP … whether deliberately or by accident but it does make it interesting to have to add new ‘types of engagements’ rather than ‘meeting via phone line’ or ‘meeting via video link’.

Charles has been busy having phone conversations with the First Ministers across the UK. Usually The Queen has one or maybe two audiences with the Scottish First Minister and one with the Welsh First Minister each year and the Northern Ireland First Minister less often. Charles has had a phone conversation with all three, plus the PM, in the past two weeks, which I find interesting.

Weekly Update to 14th May, 2020

I had an interesting discovery this week – The Times online doesn’t do the CC from the weekends at all and so has missed some engagements that are on the British monarchy website. In addition there is something unusual from the 13th/14th March. According to the British Monarchy site Anne and Tim went to the races and the rugby while the other source had them going to the races and not the rugby on the 14th but … the races were on the 13th and the rugby on the 14th. As I was relying on the online Times at the time I had to do a correction for Tim.

The other engagement that was missed by The Times online was on the 25th April when one of Camilla’s wasn’t recorded in The Times online edition (and such a sad day for Aussies and Kiwis as no royal made any acknowledgement of ANZAC Day for the first time in decades – no video message for instance).

I thought some people might be interested in a look at how many engagements royals have been doing while in lock down. I have done this from the day The Queen and Philip went to Windsor on the 19th March although no engagements were undertaken for the next four days while the family probably was getting organised for their time in lock down/isolation.

HRH The Duchess of Cornwall – 9

HRH The Duke of Cambridge – 26

Weekly Update to 28th May, 2020

Not quite as busy this week. As it is a half-term break in British schools (yes I know schools aren’t operating) it is normal for the Cambridge’s and Wessex’s to have the week off to enjoy the holidays with their children and even in lock down it seems they have done exactly that.

I do wonder whether the Cambridge’s are going to be returning to London this coming weekend so Charlotte can return to school. In the UK, for those who aren’t up on these things, school is going back for those children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6. Charlotte is in Reception while George is in Year 2 so Charlotte could be returning but not George. I have read that the Cambridge’s aren’t going to send Charlotte back until George is able to go – in about another month but we will have to wait and see/read. That is also assuming that St Thomas’ is going to follow the government’s guidelines. Private schools have more freedom than state schools in this regard.

MISSING DAYS:

May – 28th – engagements missed – 2
Total Percentage of missed engagements – 8.9% (73/824)

19th May was posted on the 26th May. I was surprised as it is rare for a date to be posted after the next date has already been posted so as the 20th and 21st were already both up I was surprised to find the 19th posted. Now if they could only get the other dates up it would be great. 28th May I expect to be posted within a couple of days.

The royals are getting very good at these events via phone and video links while the writing of the CC is still coming up with new ways to record things e.g. two events involving The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge didn’t include ‘via xxxx’.

Weekly Update to 18th June, 2020

This week saw a few engagements outside the palaces although most were still done via phone or video links.

It was great to see some ‘visits’ and even a ‘received’ – the sort of daily break activities that form a large percentage of the types of engagements in the normal course of events. We also had the modified Queen’s Official Birthday Ceremony at Windsor.

MISSING DAYS:

These dates are missing from the British monarchy website but were published in The Times or other websites based on The Times entries.

January – 13th, 14th, 29th and 30th – engagements missed – 29
February – 19th and 20th – engagements missed – 34
March – 2nd – engagements missed – 8
June – 18th – engagements missed – 13
Total Percentage of missed engagements – 9.1% (84/927)

I expect 18th June to appear in the coming few days.

Weekly Update to 25th June, 2020

This week saw more ‘out and about’ engagements and interestingly the first time in a long time that Charles hasn’t done an engagement. The last time was the week from the 12th – 19th March – the last week before lockdown and the week before he was diagnosed with covid 19.

Anne had two interesting engagements – where she addressed ‘a parade’ and ‘students’ via video link. The address to the ‘students’ was an the Chancellor of London University on the occasion of the students’ graduation.

An interesting note ... well to me ... about this week's engagements.

Camilla had a video conference with GIVIT. I hadn't heard of GIVIT before and decided I would look into it today when ... our morning TV show had a snippet from the video conference.

GIVIT is an Aussie charity helping out in times of crisis. Due to the bushfires, back in January, Camilla gave a 'generous donation' (the term used on Channel 7). Two weeks ago she was made the royal patron and last week she had this video conference.

In the conference she said how much she loved Australia and areas she would still like to see (although we didn't get to see or hear that). Of course there are no overseas visits on the horizon for any royals for the rest of this year (and given the closed borders into Australia probably not until the second half of next year either given our PM has suggested July 2021 before Aussies can think about travelling overseas. We wouldn't take too kindly to having people allowed to come here when we can't leave).

The main point is that this is Camilla's first Aussie patronage.
