British Royal Family Engagements 2018

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Thanks.

When I had an earlier version of windows my colour coding in Word would carry across but then it changed to only black and white. It took me awhile to learn how to colour code and decided to colour code the royals who actually did work each week. I hope it makes it easier for people to see who has been out and about (or working behind closed doors at times).

I hope others are finding it easier to see who did things, where they did them and when overseas events occur who and where.

Weekly Update to 13th September, 2018
Most of the main workers within the royal family have been doing things this week with both Andrew and Edward overseas – Andrew to Hungary for the FCO while Edward is in the USA for the DoE Awards.

The Queen played host to Mrs May last weekend and had an audience with her – as did Charles. No doubt Ms Sturgeon will visit the castle before the Queen returns to London as that is the normal practice.

Harry has brought up his century of engagements for the year this week.

Unofficial Engagements for Beatrice and Eugenie to 13th September, 2018

Some people have asked why I haven’t included as I did in the past. Simple reason – the source I had in the past stopped giving any updates so I didn’t have any information.

I don’t go looking for these so if I am not given a link I am not able to include any events. The girls may have done more charity type work than this but I haven’t been told about it, hence the figures as they are.

HRH Princess Beatrice of York – 15
HRH Princess Eugenie of York – 15

:previous:
Just two things:
1. Eugenie visited Serbia as part of her work with anti-slavery on September 11
http://www.theroyalforums.com/forum...ents-6-april-2010-a-27545-65.html#post2149664

2. The Duke of Gloucester had to cancel his engagements on September 11 due to an illness, so despite being on the website he didn’t do the visit to Brackley

I know the Times didn’t have these engagements, but this just proves that the royal website isn’t always reliable. As you said, they obviously have pre-prepared things and don't check if everything is true. I am now also convinced that a couple of times they’ve listed people as attending events when photos show they were not there -Duchess of Kent and Prince and Princess Michael come to mind.

I don't have the Duke of Gloucester on the 11th as I use two websites - whichever one is up first. The online for the 11th didn't go up until this morning my time so I used the other site which didn't have him doing anything on the 11th. This other site also doesn't have the engagements the online site has for the Duchess of Gloucester so I presume either she didn't do her engagements either to be with her husband or she did them and they weren't in The Times which my other site uses. This wouldn't be the first time I have had events listed in the online CC not listed in The Times and vice versa this year with events listed in The Times and not in the online - usually those lower in the line of succession.

Just because there is no picture of someone at an event doesn't prove they weren't there. All that proves is that they weren't in any of the pictures made available by the media. The media focuses on the major royals not the minor ones and so unless they were near a major royal it is highly possible that there was no picture of the minor royal taken.

The online CC has a number of events listed which I know can't or didn't happen e.g. in 2003 Sophie could not have attended the Festival of Remembrance. The Festival was on the 9th and she gave birth to Louise on the 8th and was still fighting for her life when the Festival went ahead. In 2012 there was a military event that William was supposed to attend but he cancelled at the last minute but that is still in the CC (and some media outlets reported he attended while others said he cancelled and there is no pictures of him there). With anyone lower in interest than Edward there is rarely any pictorial evidence of them doing anything.

Thanks for the info about Eugenie.

Normally on the 11th September one or both of the York girls help Sarah at the Charity Trading Day but it was Sophie there this year.

This does indeed happen and photos of minor royals are impossible to find.
The event I’m thinking of is a garden party at Buckingham Palace this spring. Prince and Princess Michael were listed in the CC, but the photo of the palace steps with all the royals listening to the national anthem shows they are not present. And royal family twitter listed all the minor royals who were there, but didn’t mention them.
Who knows what the case really was:ermm:.

Weekly Update to 20th September, 2018

This may be my last update for a few weeks or it may be I can update as normal. I am going into the hospital later this week for my knee replacement – finally – but I am not sure what the internet access will be like (and cost) there or at the rehab centre afterwards. The expectations are a week in hospital and then between two to four in rehab depending on how well I recover. Whatever happens I will do the updates as soon as possible.

During this past week Edward was in the USA for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards and brought up his triple century of engagements for the year – behind only his elder brother and sister.

A note about the colours: they indicate where a change has taken place e.g. someone undertook an engagement or a palace was used for an engagement.

Unofficial Engagements for Beatrice and Eugenie to 20th September, 2018

Some people have asked why I haven’t included as I did in the past. Simple reason – the source I had in the past stopped giving any updates so I didn’t have any information.

I don’t go looking for these so if I am not given a link I am not able to include any events. The girls may have done more charity type work than this but I haven’t been told about it, hence the figures as they are.

HRH Princess Beatrice of York – 15
HRH Princess Eugenie of York – 16

Thank you again Iluvbertie for all of your incredibly detailed tallies for the BRF. Best wishes for a successful operation and an easy recovery period. ?

A quick update - I am back in 'internet' land with my new knee.

I will hopefully get an update for last week done either later today Sydney time or tomorrow and then try to get this week up on Friday or Saturday as usual.

Painless it definitely isn't but at the moment it is manageable (with enough painkillers being given each day to bring down a horse - but all within the right medical limits). My specialist is a great believer in the idea that you don't put up with pain but that every single painkiller is also recorded. He prefers milder painkillers - like panadol - over heavier ones line codeine thankfully.

So far everything is going well - and I start some hydrotherapy later this afternoon as well so into the pool I go ....

Happy to hear that the surgery is behind you and that things went well. The upside of things is meals served in bread, a relaxing time in the pool and time to focus on things you like doing the best.

Just don't make the mistake that I did of relaxing in a nice, hot tub and deciding to pick at my stitches and remove them myself. That wasn't an overly wise move on my part.

Each day sees you getting better and better and back on your feet. You've got a good, wise doctor and he knows what he's doing as far as the painkillers go. ?

Weekly Update to 27th September, 2018

This is a little late but so far so good with the knee replacement. Thank you to those who have contacted me and passed on their best wishes. It is much appreciated.

William was on his African working holiday this week while the Queen and Philip, along with Charles and Camilla are still enjoying their summer break (although anyone who reads, and believes, the Australian tabloids would be aware that Charles has kicked Camilla out of the palaces as she has been off enjoying a break with friends in Greece rather than being in Scotland with Charles … the fact that she goes on this holiday every year just doesn’t seem to sink in for some of the people who claim to be reporters for the women’s magazines in Australia.)

Edward and Sophie are also on an overseas visit (poor Edward – two weeks in the US, home long enough to kiss his kids ‘hello’ and then ‘goodbye’ before off again – to Ireland and then France and places further east in Europe. I note that his visits to Europe aren’t branded ‘Brexit bonding or anything similar like others although he goes to these places pretty much every year it would make sense to send him if the government really needed to do so).

HRH Princess Eugenie of York – 16

We’re you able to include William’s 20 engagements from Africa?

Not all of them - yet. He was only there for four days in this update. The rest will be in the next update as I go from Friday to Thursday. Eight are there.

Weekly Update to 4th October, 2018

Sorry for the delay but the online CC didn’t update the 4th October until this morning Sydney time – as per usual – but the other site I use hasn’t updated, at time of writing since the 3rd. It usually goes up about 12 hours before the online British monarchy version. As it takes about an hour to do most days and I have to do both hydrotherapy and physiotherapy every day at the moment I had to wait until Saturday afternoon before doing the analysis. My knee is coming along nicely and they are saying I will be down to only one crutch probably on Monday and a walking stick by the end of the week. I should be home before Harry and Meghan arrive in Sydney but, unfortunately, not before Eugenie’s wedding. I will be able to watch it as I do have my own TV in my room but won’t be able to do what I normally do – have a nice evening meal with champagne to celebrate … so those of you who can please have an extra sip for me.

I enjoy an occasional look at this year vs last. I copied both year's block of text from Iluvbertie's posts. And I made some notes against this year's league table for comparison). It's interesting to see how everyone is picking up the slack from Phillip's retirement.

This year:

HRH The Prince of Wales – 393. (367 last year)
HRH The Princess Royal – 371. (375 last year, consistency is her middle name)
HRH The Earl of Wessex – 340. (huge leap from last year which was 190; that's up 79%)
HRH The Duke of York – 289. (247 in 2017)
HM The Queen – 199. (180 last year, she amazes me!)
HRH The Countess of Wessex – 179 (122 last year)
HRH The Duke of Cambridge – 178. (118 last year, a big jump of 50 points)
HRH The Duke of Gloucester – 167. (154 last year)
HRH The Duchess of Cornwall – 164. (157 last year)
HRH The Duke of Kent – 126 (98 last year)
HRH The Duke of Sussex – 109. (118 last year)
HRH The Duchess of Gloucester – 74. (75 in 2017)
HRH Princess Alexandra – 65
HRH The Duchess of Cambridge – 55. (79 last year)
Vice-Admiral Timothy Laurence – 53. (38 last year)

HRH Princess Michael of Kent – 7

Sorry everyone but I won't be able to do an update this week.

The British Monarchy website hasn't updated since the 4th October so is a week behind.

My other source hasn't updated since the 9th October - Tuesday - so is missing the 10th and 11th October.

As soon as either have the entries to the 11th I will do the update.

Weekly Update to 11th October, 2018

Slowly but surely the BRF are returning to work after their summer break with the Queen returning to London this week.

A rare engagement for Philip (and no this isn’t Eugenie’s wedding which will appear in next weeks’ analysis) but he received an Australian Brigadier.

Camilla is still in Scotland as evidenced by the location of her one engagement this week. Charles too, I suspect is still there for the most part, as for his only engagement he was listed as the ‘Duke of Rothesay’, which is his Scottish title.

Both the Queen and Sophie topped the 200 mark for the year during this past week while Charles and Anne are closing in on 400, Andrew on 300 and William on 200. No doubt Harry will also go close to the 200 mark over the next couple of weeks with the Down Under tour and Meghan will top 100 – unless the engagements listed aren’t accurate or recorded in the CC for some reason.

Unofficial Engagements for Beatrice and Eugenie to 11th October, 2018

HRH Princess Beatrice of York – 18
HRH Princess Eugenie of York – 17

A note ahead of next week's entry about the weird nature of the Court Circular:

Back in May the CC entry for Harry's wedding had The Queen, Philip, Charles, Camilla, William, Harry and Meghan attending the wedding and only The Queen, Philip, Harry and Meghan attending the reception.

For Eugenie - everyone (other than Camilla and Alexandra and the children) are listed as attending the wedding with no mention of anyone attending a reception.

Interesting for those saying there is no difference in status between Peter and Zara and the York girls. Neither Peter's nor Zara's wedding were mentioned in the CC.

:previous: bless your willingness to track all of this down. The CC is a thing utterly devoid of logic and custom sometimes. It is neither fair nor equal. It is what it is. :flowers:

Weekly Update to 18th October, 2018

From reading the media this week you would think that only Harry and Meghan were working but that would be wrong. They have done 13 engagements in the first three days of their overseas tour. On those same three days Anne did 12 and the Duke of Gloucester did 12 in Thailand but they don’t receive any coverage.

Other royals have also been undertaking engagements with most back to a normal work load although Charles is still largely on his summer break in Scotland, as is Camilla.

Of course pretty well everyone was listed in the CC as attending Eugenie’s wedding – other than Camilla and Alexandra. The interesting thing is that for Harry’s wedding only The Queen, Philip, Charles, Camilla, William, Harry and Meghan attended that wedding but for Eugenie’s everyone was listed as attending.

This week sees the first entry for Jack Brooksbank of course. He won’t do many engagements – I expect maybe two a year – Trooping and a Garden Party. He gets an entry as he is married to an HRH while those who aren’t HRH or married to a non-HRH do not get an entry. I won’t be including Louise and James in future but Louise is in there this year and will stay but not going forward.

Weekly Update to 18th October, 2018

Another week where Harry and Meghan’s tour has dominated the press coverage. It will be interesting to see how much coverage Charles and Camilla’s tour to Africa get this week. I suspect, if we are lucky, maybe an article a day. Most of the press pack will, no doubt, need a few days rest after this tour down under and so the press going with Charles and Camilla will be quite a small contingent, if any actually bother.

There was also a State Visit from The Netherlands although from the press coverage you wouldn’t know it. Andrew has been in the Middle East for Pitch at Palace while Richard finished his visit to Thailand with a number of visits to places associated with the Burma-Thailand Railway with again no coverage.

Both Charles and Anne topped 400 for the year during this past week. Edward isn’t that far behind them while Andrew brought up his 300 and Richard and William are both close to their double tons for the year.

The League Table

The colour coding indicates where a royal has either moved up or down in the table thus changing their position e.g. William moved ahead of Camilla during this past week so both of them are highlighted. Of course those that undertook an engagement moved 'up' in terms of numbers but not in their 'rank'.
