British Royal Family Engagements 2018

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Sometimes going outside of oneself is a path into finding oneself. Can't remember who said that. Buddha maybe? The point is that because of a hobby and sharing it with a global community, I think you've found a whole bunch of people that appreciate you, admire you and value your knowledge and feel a kinship with you through your posts and your dedication to making The Royal Forums what it is, a royal archive of a wealth of information.

Heck. You're better and more precise than Tim O'Donovan. Since I joined here in 2008, its been your posts and your wisdom and patience with all the mistakes I've made in learning things that qualifies you in my mind as my Royal Mentor of sorts.

Sometimes pointing out and dealing with the ugly, you find the beautiful that can come out of it. Keep calm and carry on. You're appreciated. :flowers:

May I ask people who wish to point out an error to do so in a polite manner rather than a nasty one.

I have had a few such PM's and it is rather hurtful. I do this as a labour of love to share with all of you but when someone then sends a PM about something I have missed and does so in a nasty tone it makes me question whether it is worth it.

I have had a few nasty PM about this - people questioning my sanity for wanting to do this at all so please if you wish to point something out please be polite or don't do it at all.

Iluvbertie:
Why in hell would anyone do that to you? What you do takes lots of dedication, effort and time on your part to inform us here what the BRF has done. That is loyalty and love to us here......I am so sorry that this happened to you, I truly am. There are meanies everywhere in this world and from all my life's experiences just hold your head very high, and walk on by for they are not worth your time. Just know that you have my support for I read what you comment here and I so admire all the education and work that you do.......leave them in the dust under your feet. :flowers:

Thank you, thank you.
I appreciate your work and want you to know I am very sympathetic and appreciate your efforts. Well done.

How unpleasant for you. I'd like to echo what others have said before. Thank you for undertaking this labour of love - it's much appreciated by so many of us here.[emoji255][emoji255][emoji255]

Weekly Update to 19th April, 2018

Due to CHOGM this was quite a busy week overall. It should be remembered that most of Edward’s engagements, however, were in Australia. He had a busy week including landing back in the UK and then going to the dinner that evening.

The CC described the evening event as a ‘dinner’, not a ‘gala dinner’ which has been used in the past at times.

This week does see three new royals enter the ‘official engagements for the year’ list – Eugenie, Michael and Marie-Christine. Despite how often we have seen Meghan she still hasn’t appeared in the CC. She will start to appear on the 19th May, of course. Her columns are already set up in my Excel spreadsheet (as has Jack’s but I don’t expect to see him in the CC other than for his wedding).

I found it interesting that Tim didn’t attend the dinner.

Royals who have Official Meetings with Politicians to 19th April 2018

This week there were many such engagements as most of the visiting Commonwealth Heads of Government were seen by at least one royal. To 19th April no one had seen the PM of Australia but as he will be in Europe for another 10 days or so and has only recently meet with the PoW maybe they won’t be bothering with him or he will be seen after the actual CHOGM.

They get CC credit for the wedding? Even private wedding?

This isn't a 'private wedding' though. A 'private wedding' doesn't get TV coverage etc.

Zara's wedding was a private wedding with no mention in the CC.

William - along with his uncles and aunt's wedding were public weddings and so were in the CC.

I expect Harry's wedding to also be in the CC. If not then Meghan will appear sometime afterwards but as she will be becoming an HRH and a Princess of the UK on her wedding day I would expect that it will be in the CC.

I doubt that Eugenie's will be though - as she isn't a working royal, is so far down the line of succession etc etc.

Harry is the child of the future King and as such his wedding would be an official event.

Obviously none of the Cambridge children will be carrying out royal duties for well over 20 years, but is there likely to be enough royal engagements for them to do? By this time, the number of working royals is likely to fall significantly, so three new young royals could mean a sudden increase in the royal workload, which may not be needed or even welcomed at that time.

But we don't know whether Charlotte, the new sibling and any more that might come along would necessarily want to go into public life after university, do we? By the time William is on the throne there may well be a Dutch-style system in place, in which only the heir and (eventually) his spouse undertake public engagements. The younger siblings may have careers outside Royal life.

As much as I live the royal family, to any other ordinary person who doesn't fully understand how they are financed, the BRF does seem to be expanding continuously!

I recall one of our Dutch royal experts mentioning that the Dutch Royal House (those who are the official representatives) that at some point they opted to highlight programs that benefited the entire nation.

I believe that the BRF modeling itself on one of the European models is a real possibility. There will be a distinction between the working members/official representatives and the wider extended family. Also I believe that in the future we might see QEII's grandchildren taking on charities and patronages that have a wider, national focus as opposed to a smaller regional ones.

The grassroots connection is very important.
I feel there would be a big loss to ordinary folk who benefit from royal patronage if BRF were to focus mostly on large scale, popular charities. The danger would be in what to choose and inevitably it could become political.
An extended family of royals offers a range of personalities and skills within the working BRF and is a positive bonus in being able to identify with more people.
Also, having a number of British royals carrying out engagements is simply more interesting.
I hope the BRF can afford to keep visiting small endeavours that relish them.

Weekly Update to 26th April, 2018

An interesting week with a royal birth which was, of course, recorded in the CC. To me though this isn’t an ‘official’ engagement for Kate but more a recording of the growth of the family. If I am to count Kate having babies as ‘official’ events then going back in time the ‘death’ and ‘funerals’ of the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret and Princess Alice would have to be included as they are also recorded. I also don’t count having a ‘birthday’ which for some royals is recorded in the CC (The Queen, Philip, Charles, Camilla, Andrew, Edward, Sophie and Anne only)

A note to those people who think they should shut down BP and do all the repairs in one go – there were NINE engagements at BP yesterday across a number of different royals, none of whom was the Queen, who didn’t have any engagements yesterday.

Weekly Update to 3rd May, 2018

A quieter week with no engagements for the 28th April.

I have two sources for the CC now and I found it interesting that on one day the British Monarchy’s website and this other source had different information on one day. The British monarchy site didn’t include engagements for Andrew but the other site did. I believe the other site is typing up The Times. Thanks to Princess Larissa for putting me onto that site.

I'm very surprised to see the Duchess of Kent on this list for April as I know she is retired from royal duty. What did she do to get a mention in the CC?

According to the CC for the 21st April she attended the Queen's birthday concert:

Today is the Ninety Second Anniversary of the Birthday of The Queen.

Her Majesty this evening attended a Birthday Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, London SW7, and was received by Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London (Sir Kenneth Olisa).

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke of Cambridge, Prince Henry of Wales, The Duke of York, accompanied by Princess Beatrice of York and Princess Eugenie of York, The Earl and Countess of Wessex, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke and Duchess of Kent, Princess Alexandra, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy, Princess Michael of Kent and other Members of the Royal Family also attended.

Royals who have Official Meetings with Politicians to 10th May, 2018

I would like to point out that most of the Heads of Government who visited the UK for CHOGM were officially received by at least one royal and they are recorded here. The ‘overseas’ meetings are usually with the Head of State and Head of Government, when there are two such positions. Charles has meet the President of Greece, the Prime Minister of Greece and the Leader of the Opposition of Greece during this past week for instance and they are counted as three of his ‘meetings with politicians’. I have recorded the names and positions for UK politicians e.g. Prime Minister, Secretary of State for Education.

I don’t go looking for these so if I am not given a link I am not able to include any events. The girls may have done more charity type work than this but I haven’t been told about it, hence the figures as they are.

Royals who have Official Meetings with Politicians to 17th May, 2018

I would like to point out that most of the Heads of Government who visited the UK for CHOGM were officially received by at least one royal and they are recorded here. The ‘overseas’ meetings are usually with the Head of State and Head of Government, when there are two such positions. Charles has meet the President of Greece, the Prime Minister of Greece and the Leader of the Opposition of Greece during this past week for instance and they are counted as three of his ‘meetings with politicians’. I have recorded the names and positions for UK politicians e.g. Prime Minister, Secretary of State for Education.

HM The Queen – 26
HRH The Prince of Wales– 26 (12 overseas)
HRH The Duchess of Cornwall – 5 (1 overseas)
HRH The Duke of Cambridge – 9 (1 overseas)
HRH The Duchess of Cambridge – 2 (1 overseas)
HRH Prince Henry of Wales – 7 (1 overseas)
HRH The Duke of York – 20 (3 overseas)
HRH The Earl of Wessex – 7 (6 overseas)

Unofficial Engagements for Beatrice and Eugenie to 17th May, 2018

Some people have asked why I haven’t included as I did in the past. Simple reason – the source I had in the past stopped giving any updates so I didn’t have any information.

I don’t go looking for these so if I am not given a link I am not able to include any events. The girls may have done more charity type work than this but I haven’t been told about it, hence the figures as they are.

HRH Princess Beatrice of York – 11
HRH Princess Eugenie of York – 4

Thanks for that - I will update Eugenie's unofficial engagements with this and a couple of others I have been told about.

I have just seen the CC for the 19th April. Interestingly only six members of the BRF officially attended the wedding - The Queen, Philip, Charles, Camilla, William and Harry (and Meghan but she wasn't royal at the beginning of the service).

The rest are lumped together as 'other members of the BRF' including Kate.

So I went back to 2011 and for William and Kate's wedding there is a full list The Duke of York, Princess Beatrice of York, Princess Eugenie of York, The Earl and Countess of Wessex, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke and Duchess of Kent, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Princess Alexandra, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Phillips, Miss Zara Phillips and Mr. Michael Tindall, Viscount and Viscountess Linley, The Hon. Charles Armstrong-Jones, The Lady Sarah and Mr. Daniel Chatto, Master Samuel Chatto, Master Arthur Chatto, Earl and Countess of Ulster, The Lady Davina and Mr. Gary Lewis, The Lady Rose and Mr. George Gilman, Earl and Countess of St. Andrews, Lord Downpatrick, The Lady Marina-Charlotte Windsor, The Lady Amelia Windsor, The Lord and Lady Nicholas Windsor, The Lady Helen and Mr. Timothy Taylor, The Lord and Lady Frederick Windsor, The Lady Gabriella Windsor, Mr. and Mrs. James Ogilvy, The Lady Saltoun.

That is a clear indication of the difference between the way the two wedding were regarded in official terms.

In a rush so I'll post this here to allow others to comment

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...ave-pipped-queen-list-hardest-working-royals/

The Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex have overtaken their grandmother, the Queen, in a list of busiest members of the Royal family so far this year, as the newlywed Meghan Markle joins the records with a total of one.

Prince William has worked for 33 days on public engagements since the New Year, now working as a full-time members of the Royal family after leaving his job as a search and rescue pilot to further support the Queen.

Prince Harry, who has been planning his wedding, pipped him by one day, with the new Duchess of Sussex listed once, for her own wedding.

The list, compiled by the Press Association from the Court Circular, shows the Queen spending 26 days working in public, in addition to her heavy duties within palace walls

The Princess Royal has once again topped a list, spending 75 days on public engagements, followed by the Earl of Wessex with 59 and the Prince of Wales on 52.

The figures, covering January 1 to May 22

Interesting to see if the always dependable Iluvbertie's figures are similar to these, they look about right from a quick glance.

My figures aren't up to May 22 but they aren't using the CC for their figures for days worked that is clear. Maybe only counting 'public appearances' and not meetings etc behind closed doors.

I have William having worked on 47 days for instance up to 17th May with the Queen on 46 and Harry on 38 and Anne 81. I include every day they do something official - whether in public or not but not things like 'were represented by xxx at a funeral' or 'left the UK for overseas' unless there was some official engagement on arrival such as 'received by the President/GG/Ambassador of yyyy'.

I use the online CC and another source which is based on The Times. There have been times when the online CC hasn't included events listed in The Times CC as well.

I have Charles working on 63 days and Edward on 67.

Again I suspect that they aren't including days when they attend meetings or undertake receiveds behind closed doors and thus they aren't seen in public and so no press coverage possible.

Sorry for the delay this week but the online CC is only up to the 23rd and my other sources hasn't updated since the 20th May.

As soon as either do the 24th I will put up the week for you.
