Royals at Balmoral

It's a family affair! The Queen gets into the autumnal spirit in an orange ensemble as she heads to church at Balmoral with William, Charles and Camilla

Charles clearly thought himself to cross his legs at his ankles when wearing the traditional Scottish outfit

Nice to see the queen's nephew Lord Snowdon in the car with her on the way to church with his children.

I was just about to say the same thing. Since the Snowdons stopped attending Trooping regularly in 2011, they haven't been at the main royal events as much. It was lovely to see them attend the service at Balmoral today - from the very little I can see I'm guessing this is Snowdon's daughter Margarita next to HM.

It’s not Sophie Wessex.
It’s the Queen’s lady-in-waiting, no idea which one.

HM and the Wessexes are incredibly close indeed. I guess since Bagshot is not too far from Windsor, it's easy for them to pop over to the castle for a ride or some afternoon tea!
Typically I visited Windsor Castle on Tuesday though HM had an engagement at Buckingham Palace that day

Bagshot is further from Windsor than Royal Lodge but we rarely see the Queen with Andrew or the Yorks yet there are reports that they also visit ... often on a Sunday afternoon.

Frankly, in the photos of the Queen it looks as if the other rider has a blonde pony tail sticking out the back of her protective headgear. The photos of Edward are markedly different and he seems to be riding alone.

Nice to see that Lady Sarah Chatto was present too. Was the event at Ascot in honour of Prince Charles's birthday?

It is an annual event for The Prince's Countryside Fund. It is the largest fundraiser for this charitable endeavour which promotes the countryside skills etc.

As his birthday was a week ago they also celebrated that event but it wasn't specifically a 'birthday event'.
