When they left the Tindall car was packed with presents, is it true that they will be spending Christmas in Australia this year?

BBC One - Cue The Queen: Celebrating the Christmas Speech

BBC - Cue The Queen: Celebrating The Christmas Speech - Media Centre
Quote:
To herald the year that Queen Elizabeth II became Britain’s longest reigning monarch, Kirsty Young takes a unique look at the story of the Royal Christmas broadcast and how the tradition, started by King George V in 1932, has found a place at the heart of Christmas Day.
At 3pm on Christmas day, every year families across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth gather to watch Her Majesty The Queen deliver her Christmas message.

In this first documentary of its kind, Kirsty Young takes a unique look at the history of the broadcast, and with fascinating archive and interviews uncovers the history of this much-loved Christmas event. Beginning with tentative steps in the early days of the wireless, then providing reassurance during the uncertainty of the Second World War, it has become The Queen’s televised message that we all know and love and reflects the social and technological changes that three generations of the monarchy have witnessed over the past 80 years.

Kirsty talks to Sir David Attenborough, who directed five of The Queen’s Christmas Messages in the 1980s, and also Mark Logue, who has extraordinary diaries and photographs of his grandfather Lionel Logue (the King's speech therapist) who was present at Sandringham for King George VI’s first Christmas broadcast in 1937. The documentary also tells the story of the unknown poet who became an overnight sensation in 1939, when her poem was used in the King's Christmas broadcast.

Regarding the Christmas lunch; maybe Anne (and Tim) had arrived earlier at BP. I do like to see this sort of gathering where all the members of the Windsor extended family can catch up each year. It must be great for the younger ones especially.

Anne and Sophie had engagements.

Anne was at the International Horse Show at Olympia, Hammersmith, London.

Sophie was seen arriving but not Anne. Tim arrived on foot without Anne.

After 65 years, Anne probably knows BP inside and out and can 'sneak' in without being noticed.

St. George's, the school Louise attends at least not sure about James, is in term until tomorrow (the 17th). Perhaps the kids didn't want to miss the last day of classes with their friends to go to an event in London?

Don't know about this year, but she spent last Christmas in Australia. She has presented a sailing cup award for the past 2 years. The event is in January but she went early last year. I don't know if they are doing the same this year.

What a lovely card from Charles and Camilla! I wish we saw all the families Christmas cards.

I always like seeing the photos of the BRF going to the Christmas lunch as it's a chance to see the more minor members of the family who don't get photographed regularly.

I wonder where Princess Margaret's children and grandchildren were as they often attend the Christmas lunch.

Prince George's hair appears to have gotten darker and curlier, though the colour could be due to the lighting, but Catherine has dark hair and a lot of children become darker as they grow older so his hair could have indeed changed colour.

I know this article was posted in the brooches thread, but I post it here too.

The Queen and Prince Philip board a train to Sandringham from London | Daily Mail Online
Quote:
Off on one's Xmas holidays: The Queen and Prince Philip board a train to Sandringham for traditional seasonal break (he's armed with a book while she has her iPad mini)

Flanked by her personal staff and police escorts, Her Majesty smiled warmly at well-wishers as she stepped aboard her cordoned off first class carriage.

Never one to dress down, The Queen looked sophisticated in a pastel pink-coloured boucle coat adorned with pearl buttons, a matching skirt that fell just below her knees and black gloves.

Meanwhile, the Duke of Edinburgh, 94, looked smart in a navy suit, light blue-hued striped shirt and patterned silk tie.

While Prince Philip decided to pass the journey time by reading a hardback book, onlookers spotted The Queen leafing through her paperwork and scrolling through her mini iPad.

The Queen is said to have ordered the device back in 2011 after being given a crash course on it by her grandsons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

A royal insider told The Sun at the time: 'The Queen hadn’t seen anything like the iPad before. She was very impressed.

'She was particularly taken with how easy it was to use, the large screen and how light it was.

'For a woman of her age, she is very switched on. It was only a matter of time before she asked someone to go and get her one.'

They added: 'The Princes think it is hilarious. They love the fact that their gran wants an iPad and think she’s really cool.'

The Queen is a big fan of Apple gadgets and is believed to own at least two iPods.
The Queen, she looked great as usual.

It is also from Sandringham that the Queen's annual Christmas speech is broadcast.
I think the last time the Queen spoke from Sandringham was in 1996, so they (the mail/fail) were wrong again.

Ma'am your carriage awaits... Queen takes train to Sandringham to begin Christmas holidays | Royal | News | Daily Express
Quote:
Smiling broadly in a bright pink coat, the 89-year-old monarch and her consort Prince Philip, 94, took the scheduled 1044 service from London King's Cross to King's Lynn to begin their seasonal stay at Sandringham.

They sat in a cordoned off First Class carriage and were believed to be travelling on £54.90 First Class tickets for the 1 hour 37 minute journey on the Great Northern service.

Witnesses said the Queen spent much of the journey looking at a mini-iPad, while Philip took a book for the journey.

She's just like one of us – almost. The Queen shunned royal transport on Thursday morning to take an ordinary passenger train to Norfolk, where she will be spending the Christmas period at her country estate Sandringham.

Even though it's from the Daily Mail, I really like the chronological overview of these cards. And this year's card is really pretty. It reveals a rarely seen pictographic closeness between the two.
