I don't see the need for Kensington Palace to confirm the Cambridges and the Sussexes will spend Christmas at Sandringham. It confirms there may be some truth to the headlines. First the Sussexes were staying at Amner Hall; then they were not staying at Amner Hall. Their moves are going to be scrutinized. Body language "experts " are going to be working Christmas.
Well, that was stupid. (On KP part, but their PR has never been good.)

At least now we'll get the pleasure of watching it backfire completely and everyone who was yelling that KP should say something about these rumors will see why some didn't want that to happen.

Also, if the Cambridges really planned on spending Christmas with the Middletons this year and changed their plans to show "solidarity", that royally sucks. :ermm:

Agreed. But there were in a no win situation.
Ummm... No, they weren't? They could've stayed quiet and waited for it to calm down, Cambridges could've visited the Middletons and it would all be forgotten by New Year's Eve.

I loved the Christmas card from the Cambridges and Sussexes this year. It's great that we get to see Louis since we haven't seen a lot of him at all since he was born (although for him it's nice that he gets to live a more private life). I'm not sure who he looks like; he seems to be a real mixture of both families in terms of resemblance. George is going to be a heartbreaker when he's older, he's a very handsome little boy! I love Charlotte's cheeky expression.
It's lovely that Harry and Meghan chose a wedding photo for their card and I love the fireworks - great for the festive season, especially the New Year!

Exactly! None of them are "Christmas" photos. They are photos chosen that represent the families. My friends do it all the time. In fact, it's a game with one of them to figure out which photo she'll use during the year for their annual Christmas cards. The Cambridges have used tour photos for theirs in the past. None of the British royals are having Christmas specific photoshoots. I expect that from the other royal houses, like the Swedes, Danes and Norwegians.

Of the 3 Christmas cards I personally liked the Sussex card best - for me it was strangely compelling, it felt both romantic and haunting to me. The Wales’ card was most traditionally ‘Christmasy’ to me - at least there was a green background - if Camilla had been wearing red or burgundy - viola. The Cambridge photo flattered Catherine and Louis but otherwise meh. Obviously a fall shot with a rather bland background, Charlotte’s buttoned up sweater looked odd as did George’s awkward side leg kick and must Catherine always clutch her babies by the crotch? But I did appreciate a chance to see the Cambridge children and Louis has certainly grown!

Regarding KP confirming that the Cambridges are spending Christmas at Sandringham & the no comment by KP re where anyone was spending the remainder of the holiday, as was pointed out by a PP, the Cambridges have not spent every other year at Bucklebury.
The Queen and Prince Phillip are in their 90s and may not have many Christmases left, hardly surprising that the Cambridges would choose to spend part of the holiday at nearby Anmer. However, by announcing where, KP spares the Church in Bucklebury from an onslaught of photographers lurking about hoping to get pix of the Cambridges, Middletons & Matthews walking to/from services.

Ah Christmas is upon us, that season of good cheer. Unless, of course you are a Royal Reporter or Photographer. It seems they miss the memo to skip the Grinch!

Just looking at these it seems that the Cambridge's have found their preferred Christmas Card style. Bucolic: suggesting an idyllic rural life when they are at Anmer.

Charles and Camilla too, have found their style Christmas Card Style. Love is gentle, patient and kind . . . so long as you are with the one you love.

For all the RR sniping about Harry and Meghan's black and white theme, it seems that may very well be a Harry thing and not a Meghan/Hollywood thing as some reports have snootily stated. Harry stated that the 2015 photo showed one of his most memorable moments of 2015.

His first photo as a married man seems to be also one of the most memorable moments of the year, and perhaps the beginning of their style. To add my tuppence worth, I thought it depicted the glorious future that lies before them, crackers and all.

Did Arthur really equate the fireworks to war? LOL. Okay. Over the top much? He doesn't have to like it but I find that just to be a tad dramatic but then again people usually are when it comes to the Sussexes.

Anyways I liked all three photos. I am not sure what the fuss is about but it is what it is.

Don't these cards also go out to members of the public who write to them etc?

Yes, this isn’t a private photo sent to family and friends. These are cards sent to everyone - charities, patronages and anyone who sends them a Christmas card.
If any of you are interested you can write to Clarence House and you’ll get these cards in response.

I personally like the use of this photo for their Christmas card - it was always going to be a photo from their wedding and the fireworks add a festive, celebratory touch to the idea. It seems back and white photography for their official photos is something they will continue to do and I like that consistency.

I feel like they have started their own little tradition -- black and white at Frogmore. So far their engagement, their wedding, and I am sure we will see one with Baby Sussex in the near future.

Loving the Cambridges Christmas card this year!

Christmas with the royals is on its way. We will get plenty of dissecting of body language of everyone and also nice new pictures to fawn over. 2018 was quite a year for the royal family and it seems 2019 is shaping up to be another.

Buckle up.

Yeah, sorry. I am not seeing that. I see fireworks on a pond. ?

I would expect it. The little ones always do very well.

The very traditional shorts suits have been for more formal occasions. We've always seen George in "normal" kid clothes for casual things like polo games and that's the dress code they used for this photo, so I don't think we can make any conclusions about how he'll be dressed for Trooping the Colour or whatnot. As for Louis' "tights," leggings have been a pretty popular way of dressing babies of both genders for a few years now, and I feel like we saw George in them as a baby, too.

I really like this photo. It's nice to see that childish personality of the kids coming through. I like it much better than last year's studio shot, but I also felt like Kate seemed pretty tired from the pregnancy last autumn (and I remember being super tired at the same point in my pregnancies), so I don't mind that she didn't feel like pulling together a newer photo and just used one from the session when they took George's birthday portrait/tour thank you photos.

I like all the Christmas card photos this year. I think each one suits the household that sent it. Meghan and Harry's feels so festive and warm to me, and it seems very natural for a newlywed couple to pull a photo from their wedding for the Christmas card. It looks like you're looking with them into an exciting future. The Cambridges' card photo is such a warm picture of a growing family that's having a fun, if hectic, time of it. And the Wales' portrait exudes the comfort and companionship of a couple who've been in love for years and years.

Maybe it's an American thing? I have to say, in many discussions I have with my American friends the perspective on history is always the most interesting one - Europeans in general saw more pictures like that from WWII, so the connection is stronger in their (well, ours) minds.

Of course it is popular--it has the three young Cambridge kids in it. And they are cute.

And yet another POV of the Christmas Card Controversy.

https://honey.nine.com.au/2018/12/1...ce-harry-meghan-christmas-card-hidden-message

Arbiter worries that the non stop attacks will end up backfiring on the media and the very thing they don't want to occur just might.

I think Victoria is one of the few voices of reason among the Royal Reporters right now.

I kind of agree with her about the Christmas card photo--I think Harry and Meghan just loved the photo and wanted to share it, with no hidden meaning or message.

Yeah, me too.

There are some weird over the top criticisms of the Sussexes' Christmas card photo and comparing the fireworks to the Blitz is one of them.

I see love and happiness exploding.;)

According to the front page of the Mirror, Harry won’t take part in the Christmas pheasant shoot because of Meghan.

I’m having dejavu. They printed this exact story last year.

Not sure why people are surprised the kiddos were a hit. They always are. Just like the weddings were and I’m sure the upcoming new baby will be. Those are easy sells. Weddings and babies. We were spoiled this year.

Several bickering posts and and posts adding nothing to the discussion have been deleted. This is supposed to be a thread discussing Christmas with the British Royal Family, not a platform to bash the media, nor a platform for point scoring or for perpetuating speculation, rumour and gossip.
Those wishing to carry on a private point-scoring feud may do so if they must by PM and not within the threads.
Let's please have some mutual respect for one another and not bicker over something as innocuous as a Christmas card.
