Iluvbertie

Thanks for pointing out I had used your number for Kate rather than O'Donovan's. I made the correction.

I also find it interesting that the Queen, Camilla & Edward worked the same number of days.

I think we're really throwing this thread and the reason its here way off track.

What Kate and Will do unofficially and in their private time is their business. I've yet to see discussions of the same nature pertaining to any other of the couples of the BRF.

Iluvbertie has been doing a wonderful job of watching and listing official engagements according to the Court Circular for all of the BRF and I think we owe her the courtesy of not polluting this thread with things that really don't pertain at all to official duties and engagements.

I definitely agree that Iluvbertie has been doing a wonderful job on keeping up with the engagements, but she did specifically ask for links regarding Kate spending time in Wales (and also stated that Kate and William never spent time together). So of course people were going to respond.

Just a note - there will no no update this week or next as I am going on holidays and won't have computer access - yes I am going into the bush for two weeks. Will update when I get home on the 16th June, Sydney time.

I'm back and will start updating my records later tonight and put up the last three weeks tomorrow -- seems that I have a lot of catching up to do with reading as well.

Weekly update to 30th May

This is the first of the three updates I will post today as they will still be week by week. They will be a couple of hours apart as it takes about 3 hours each week to do the work involved.

Philip and Camilla both topped the 'ton' this week. Interestingly both Edward and Sophie didn't fulfil anypublic engagements which suggests either they were preparing for upcoming engagements or were having a holiday with their children.

Weekly update to 6th June

This is the second update today. This week includes the last engagements that Philip undertook before being hospitalised so his figures won't change for some time, if the reports of a two months convalesence is true. This also includes the Coronation Service which means a mention in the CC for The Duchess of Kent.

Quite a busy week overall though with 132 engagements although 20 of those came from the Jubilee Service alone. Anne has reached her double century for the year as well this week.

Weekly update to 13th June

This is the third and final update today. Quite a few engagements this week across the range of members of the royal family although none for Philip of course and the final solo one for Kate before her maternity leave.

The Duke of Kent has now topped the century mark while close to that mark is the Countess of Sophie and Duke of Gloucester and they will probably reach that mark next week.

Weekly update to 20th June

An interesting week with Trooping seeing most of the family out and about and then the Garter ceremony adding a number of engagements for the actual knights but to no one else as no one else was mentioned in the CC and then Ascot where only The Queen was credited with attendance so Camilla and Sophie who attend both the Garter and Ascot didn't get a mention for either in the CC and others who have attended Ascot, and even presented trophies get no official credit for those engagements. So even though we have seen lots of the royals out this week the weekly count isn't as high as you would expect.

Sophie has now also reached the century mark for the year.

I disagree - if someone had this condition then their doctor would not advise work and they would be on sick leave. This is a serious condition which can potentially lead to blindness

Tell that to my colleague who works with it - no choice as they have to earn a living. Their doctor has told them that working isn't a problem at all unless the pain becomes too great, in which case they should take a day off. If you only get 10 days sick leave a year taking the amount of time off needed to recover from this illness isn't going to be helped by going on sick leave as after 2 weeks you have no leave and no pay.

I have three friends with it as well and they go about their normal lives - no slowing down - still very involved in their charities etc - yes they are in pain and yes they have to take medication but they have been told it isn't serious at all (serious = life-threatening).

To a degree, I'm with you on this. My family has a history of arthritis and managed to continue working. The Princess has "polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) — an inflammation of the muscles that leads to stiffness and agonising pain. In extreme cases, it can even lead to blindness." She is also 76 years old, beyond the normal working age, and at that time of life, recovery is far more difficult. Not a comparison with my family members or perhaps your friends.

Sadly, I suspect that we will not see her out and about again.

My friends are in their late 70s and 80s - on a par with Alexandra. My colleague is in his late 60s.

May I suggest that your friends go entirely off gluten for a few months and see if that helps. A dear friend of mine was told by the Doctor to try it. It is cheap and safe to do. Guess what, it worked. The explanation I was given was that the wheat we eat today is not the same as was on the market before 1975. It has been modified. I wish them luck.

I can't wait for this week's results. Bea's school opening is not on the royal.gov court circular list @ http://www.royal.gov.uk/LatestNewsandDiary/CourtCircular/Todaysevents.aspx page for the 21st - but is on the "Latest Royal Images " page. http://www.royal.gov.uk/LatestNewsandDiary/Gallery.aspx

Yes, I know the pages are apples and oranges - but it is things like this that drive the detailed part of my personality crazy. :ROFLMAO: I don't think you should be able to use the pic of the cute young member of the family on one page and not give them credit on the other. If you use them, you count them in my world. Says the commoner from another country. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

And I agree 100% - a commoner from the UK ;)

If it isn't in the CC then it isn't counted. A lot of royals do things that are reported but aren't official and as The Queen is the one who approves what is and isn't an official event she is the one who is to blame for the lack of appearances in the CC of Beatrice and Eugenie - and the school event wasn't in the CC so no credit for Beatrice. This has happened to others as well - Harry's earlier tour to Africa this year had official engagements on two of the three days but the middle day had nothing in the CC so no credit even though he did things.

To try to do it otherwise would be impossible as different royals have different things reported so a local paper may report an event but not a major paper making it impossible to track every event.

It is annoying I know but it is The Queen's decision.

An update on this week's delay - I have the current copy on my work server, which I can normally access from home and I stupidly didn't get a back up copy at home. Work has taken the server down for a complete rebuild during our school holidays so I have to redo it from back in March at home (I did keep the update at home around Easter time - silly me - I have learnt to keep an up-to-date copy at home. This could also see some different figures as I am going back to mid-March.

Year to date total - 1892 (1723 - up 169) Again this figure is a bit out due to the recalculation I had to do - which seems to have shown me that I don't always count things the same way particularly with Charles - I think it comes down to at times I have given him 1 for something like attended a dinner and then went to xxxx and attended a reception - which I have read the first time as both taking place at the same place but on the second go through I was surprised at the number of times he actually moved between events. The other thing is that I decided to count the 'received by' on an overseas tour for everyone - because usually it is a high powered person receiving them at the other end and if I could Andrew meeting an incoming foreign visitor it is only fair to count the reverse situation, which is why Harry went up 3 this week - on his overseas tours he was 'received by' someone important.
79.5% of those engagements being carried out by The Queen, her children and their spouses.

Only Alexandra is still to do anything official this year due to her continuing health issues which has now seen her cancel ALL engagements for the foreseeable future.

Thank you Iluvbertie, as always, for this. Sorry about the data loss. :flowers:

In the event that Princess Alexandra was to completely retire from Royal life, would she still recieve the £225,000 pa she currently gets from the Queen?

That money is to cover her official duties - she was originally voted that by parliament as part of the Civil List and was still paid to her until the changes in the legislation that removed the Civil List altogether. What happened in 1992 was that The Queen agreed to repay to the government all Civil List payments made to everyone other than to her, her mother and her husband.

Since the introduction of the Sovereign's Grant The Queen pays to the members of her family the costs of their official duties and staff for that purpose. If Alexandra is unable to continue those duties then she won't need the staff or the money will she?

But in a situation where a royal either retires or is unable to work due to illness, would the Queen still give them a personal income, however small? I was just reading the Duke of York's website and it said he has no personal income other than his navy pension, so I wonder how the royals fund their private lives. They must have some kind of private income too?

They have inherited trust funds from earlier monarchs/parents. Andrew has a trust fund set up at birth by both The Queen and The Queen Mum and that would also give him a nice income plus his money from selling Sunninghill.

With Alexandra she lives largely on her husband's income and what he left her.

Were Edward's & Sophie's number recalculated? 6 engagements each day seems much.

Edward is placed below Camilla even though his numbers exceed hers.

Edward and Sophie did an overseas tour.

23rd June - 3 each
24th June - 5 each
25th June - 6 each
26th June - 6 each
27th June - 10 each

Giving 30 each over that 5 day period - that isn't normal except on overseas tours.

Thanks for the missed change in order regarding Edward and Camilla - a simple miss when doing the weekly update due to using a 'cheat' - I use the 'quote' button and remove the 'quotes' to make it seem a new post but that means that some of the edits of the original post get missed and with the 're-read' didn't get that one again.

All of them were redone due to leaving the original figures at work and not being able to access them with Charles being the one that seems 'out' while the others all came out close to what I would expect.

A week or so ago people were discussing the opening and use of the different royal palaces so I have done some analysis to show which palaces etc are used:

BP is the most heavily used of course followed by CH and St James (which are also part of the same complex). These figures are up to 2nd July this year. With the exception of BP they are totals by ALL members of the family. The KP ones are all done by the Gloucestors who received a lot of people there while The Duke of Kent receives people at St James. With regard to Holyrood - they aren't all from this week and include events hosted there by a number of The Queen's children.

BPQ (Buckingham Palace done by The Queen) - 104
BP (done by others) - 156
CH - 101
St James - 49
KP - 21
Windsor - 23
Marlborough House - 3
Sandringham House - 10
Holyrood House - 14
Balmoral - 0 (but that will probably change when The Queen goes north and has audiences and council meetings up there).

This is the number of 'events' as opposed to 'engagements'. So if two or more royals attended the event it is only counted once even though up to 19 royals may have attended the event.

Weekly update to 4th July
A very busy week for many royals with The Queen undertaking official duties from Holyrood while Charles and Camilla were doing their annual tour of Wales. Others were also out and about with Edward also in Edinburgh and undertaking official duties from and at Holyrood House.

Order from most downwards - the 'league table' if you like. I refuse to calculate how people are moving up or down that list. I do move people around who have moved up or down but I am not putting in how many places they are moving - although usually it is only one place in either direction.
