Enthronement Ceremony of Paduka Seri Sultan Nazrin Shah as the 35th Sultan of Perak

The Istiadat Tabal Adat for the Enthronement of Paduka Seri Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbudin Shah Al-Maghfurlah and Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim took place at the Throne Hall of Istana Iskandariah in Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar, Perak this morning Wednesday 6 May 2015.

The Istiadat Tabal Adat is one of the several ceremonies that need to be completed for the Enthronement of the Sultan of Perak.

Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah kissed the Holy Qur’an

Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah kissed the Sword of Cura Simanjakini, one of the most important Royal Regalias of Perak Sultanate. According to the Malay Annals written by Tun Seri Lanang, the sword was used by Permasku Mambang, a warrior of Sang Sapurba, to slay a dragon-like snake named Ular Saktimuna that threatened the lives of people in Sumatera. Sang Sapurba is the descendant of Raja Iskandar Zulkarnain Makedonia (Alexander the Great). Sang Sapurba is the ancestor of Paduka Seri Parameswara the first Ruler of the Kingdom of Melaka. The first Sultan of Perak is Sultan Muzaffar Shah I Mrhum Tanah Abang, the son of the last Ruler of Melaka Sultan Mahmud Shah.

Last night Thursday 7 May 2015 the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah and Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim had completed Istiadat Tabal Pusaka (the Enthronement of the Heritage), another important rites of the Enthronement of the Sultan of Perak, which also includes the Bathing Ceremony.

The Bathing Ceremony was led by the Sultan's sister Raja Dato's Seri Azureen. The Sultan's mother Raja Permaisuri Tuanku Bainon, Raja Puan Besar Perak Raja Nor Mahani, Raja Puan Muda Perak Tunku Puteri Soraya and other members of the Royal Family also attended the ceremony.

Thank you for sharing all those links to pictures and videos Ephram. I watched parts of the enthronement ceremony online. This seems to have been a slightly less grand event than the coronation of the Sultan of Johor in March. I also noticed fewer royal guests (or at least I didn't see many of those who attended the Johor coronation). Both were very interesting to watch nonetheless.
I'm curious, what's the significance of the bathing ceremony? It seems to be a part of all such important events in Malaysia, including royal weddings.

The bathing ceremony is more of a cleansing ritual and according to elderly people to ward off evils. This ceremony is common not only in Perak but in all other Malay Royal Houses including in Johor whom the Coronation you saw last March.

This morning Paduka Seri Sultan and Raja Permaisuri visited three Royal mausoleums of his predecessors including the Mausoleums of Almarhum Sultan Mansur Shah (the 2nd Sultan of Perak), Almarhum Sultan Ali (the 24th Sultan of Perak) dan Sultan Yusof Sharifuddin (27th Sultan of Perak) in three different locations in Kuala Kangsar.

Later this afternoon 8 more Royal tombs of previous Sultans of Perak will be visited by Sultan Nazrin and Tuanku Zara at the Royal Mausoleum of Bukit Chandan in Kuala Kangsar including:-

2. Makam Sultan ke-28, Almarhum Sultan Idris Murshidul'adzam Shah I (1887-1916).
3. Makam Sultan ke-29, Almarhum Sultan Sultan Abdul Jalil Karamatullah (1916-1918).
4. Makam Sultan ke-30, Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Shah (1918-1938).
5. Makam Sultan ke-31, Almarhum Sultan Abdul Aziz Almustasin Billah Shah (1938-1948).
6. Makam Sultan ke-32, Almarhum Sultan Yussuff Izuddin Shah (1948-1963).
7. Makam Sultan ke-33, Almarhum Sultan Idris Iskandar Al-Mutawakkil Allahi Shah II (1963-1984).
8. Makam Sultan ke-34, Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah (1984-2014).
Tomorrow onwards even more Royal tombs will be visited. The Sultan and Raja Permaisuri will have to use a Royal water vessel known as Balai Gambang to navigate along the Perak River to visit many more tombs on the riverside.

This morning at 7.17am Malaysian time, Paduka Seri Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah conducted a ceremony of setting his feet at Beting Beras Basah in Bagan Datoh, Perak. Orang Kaya-Kaya Imam Paduka Tuan Dato' Dr. Muhammad Afifi led the recitation of prayers.

The sandbar was the first site of the landing of the first Sultan of Perak Sultan Muzaffar Shah Marhum Tanah Abang in 1528.

The ceremony concluded the entire rites of the Enthronement of Paduka Seri Sultan Nazrin Shah as the 35th Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of the state of Perak Darul Ridzuan.

The 239th Meeting of the Conference of Rulers

Today the 239th Meeting of the Conference of Rulers started at Istana Negara. All the Rulers attended the first day of the meeting except the Sultan of Pahang who was represented by Tengku Mahkota Tengku Abdullah and the Sultan of Johor who was represented by Tunku Laksamana Tunku Abdul Jalil.

The chairman for this session is the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin. Tonight the Royal Banquet is held at the palace and tomorrow the second day will convene.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah on Monday morning 7 March 2016 attended the State Opening of Parliament (the First Meeting of the 4th Term of the 13th Malaysian Parliament) at the Parliament House, Kuala Lumpur.

This December 2016 Tuanku Abdul Halim will complete his five-year term as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the Federal Throne.

This morning The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Al-Haj Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah attended Trooping the Colour that was held in honour of the King's birthday. The ceremony was held at Dataran Pahlawan Negara, Putrajaya.
